The following Ruling Updates will be in effect at Worlds (as well as next season).

Please spread the word that that Worlds competitors will be prepared.

We have to get the official wording on this, but Unown G (and other effects that block attack effects) will work slightly differently.

If an attack effect says to choose a benched Pokemon and switch it with the Defending Pokemon, if the Defending Pokemon has an Unown G attached, the switch will still happen!
Since the "target" Pokemon does not block the effect, the effect happens.

Looker's Investigation will be played the way the US has been playing it.
In other words, you must declare how many cards you are drawing ahead of time. If you don't declare, you draw the maximum number of cards.
You do not get to draw, look, draw, look, then decide to stop drawing cards.

Please get the word out, especially on the change in how Unown G will not block indirect effects, just effect that directly target it's attached Pokemon.

and you couldn't tell us this in months before. or is pokemon so lazy that they wait until the last minute

They're slaves to when PCL tells them things and what PCL thinks. There's nothing they can do about it.

Be glad you found out sooner than 10 minutes before the start of round 1.

@Kamz: If you paid attention to anything ever said regarding rulings on this site, you'd know that it's not that simple. I'm not saying that the system we have now is perfect (and I often wonder if it could be a quicker process), but that comment was completely off-base. It does nothing but showcase your ignorance.

Good to have the rulings out. :D

Would the Unown G ruling apply to Poke-Bodies like Mewtwo LV.X and Toxicroak G (Platinum)? For example, if Trapinch SW uses Inviting Trap against an active Mewtwo LV.X to target a benched Claydol, would that work under the new ruling?

yes, that would work similarly

I lost three battle Roads because of the Unown G ruling.
I knew it the whole time!

^I guess you didn't know it the whole time then. Just because the ruling is now what you thought it should play as, doesn't mean that it was "wrong" before.

You should have played according to how it was ruled at the time. When an active "Guarded" Pokemon prevented "Inviting Trap" yesterday, it was the correct ruling. When an active "Guarded" Pokemon doesn't prevent "Inviting Trap" tomorrow, it will be the correct ruling. You ought to be aware the rules of the game, whether you agree with them of not.

The judges were not wrong.
We had one ruling that was in effect.
Everyone needed to play by that ruling while it was the official ruling.

This is now the official ruling. It wasn't then. Just now.

A judge would have been wrong to anticipate the ruling change and rule by that before it happened.

Not trying to make kamz look bad, but I think he/she is saying what others must be thinking, so let's quote the post and answer:

No, we (TC) couldn't tell you months before. We advocate, we argue (in the scientific sense), but ultimately we only publish official rulings we receive.

I wouldn't impute the delay to laziness at TPCi either; sometimes a lot of hard work goes into something before anything comes out. Or, maybe a domino had to fall in order to get this sent out. It may seem simple to you and me, but really this is a far reaching ruling (as you can see from Pooka's astute questions), and maybe being sure, for now and the future, was better than being quick.

Would you rather have this info now, or after worlds? I think now is better.

I'm perfectly fine with this ruling, or actually more than fine. Will this rule be in place at all Pokemon sanctioned events such as Pokemon Leagues immediately, or will it be enacted upon next season?

Leave it up to TPCi to screw up the ruling last year at worlds, take it back, wait a year, and then change it days before Worlds. Bravo.

TPCI did not screw up anything. They are told how the rules are to be enforced they do not make them.
