Goth does 90 for 3 if you have 3 psychic energy on it, right? That means, less damage if you abuse DCE (50 instead of 90) or much longer charge time if you want more damage.

Either way, 3 energy attacks is well welcomed in a format filled (currently) with >2 energy attacks as the norm.

Honestly, I see HGSS greats making a big appearance. Donphan Prime and Jumpluff are my top 2 picks for next season, rare candy neuter, lack of BTS or not.

I 'aint fraid of no Goth.

edit: Also, one attack leaves Goth vulnerable to attacks that restrict the use of one attack, or make it cost more. (lack of options)

I'd rather have use of my Poke-Powers than my trainers, in my honest opinion. But in a format without uxie and claydol, I'm not sure if that is going to make a difference.

don't forget about Yanmega Prime. Try 70 damage or a 40 damage anywhere-snipe for NO energies and minimal set-up...

I'm betting Yanmega/Donphan or pure Yanmega will be the fastest deck around come next (tentatively) HG-SS on format.

Just the fact the mention of Healing in between turns (Possible reference to Nidoqueen RR) is not affected by any conditions. However, it cold still mean because of the HGSS healers.

Additionally, this could support AR-ON:
"For Example, Probopass (Platinum-Arceus, 7/99) reads, "If you don't have a Supporter card in play, each of Probopass's attacks does 30 more damage to the Active Pokémon (before applying weakness and Resistance)."

No these are now the rules till the rotation, just rotating to HGSS gets rid of most of this problem (Support issue).

Are we sure there will be a mid-season rule change? Of course they are the "new" rules if you are playing for fun and buying your first set of Pokemon cards....so you have no choice (or even knowledge) of previous rules.

But if you are a competitive player, certainly with "older" cards as the document calls out, that has been competing and building decks all year with a certain set of rules. Isn't it possible that TPC will just introduce a new set of cards (1 out of 13 legal sets, mind you) and NOT change the tournament rules?

Said another way, are there ANY cards in the B&W set that require the rules to change? I don't think so.

Not changing the rules will just allow us to rapidly evolve to the new Stage 1 and Stage 2 cards. Will that break the format in the wrong way too? Unless TPC has a history of doing this, I just don't see how 1 new set out of 13 available sets require the rules to change for the biggest tournament.

Has there been any notice as to when the anouncements regarding rule changes/ format rotations can be expected? Lot of speculation , but WHEN do we find out?

IF there is a mid season rotation, then we will most likely find out after regionals when B/W comes out, if there isn't one, we will probably won't hear anything until when we normally do, before worlds to prepare for the next year.

Call me insane... but considering how broken the current format is with these new rules, I have to wonder if BW-on sounds more likely than one would think (after worlds)

If I recall correctly, dp-on was the format in Japan a set or two after the first set came out and it stuck like that until plat. We haven't had a reason to follow Japans rotation, but adapting to rules like this just makes it sound even more likely, despite the sheer amount of competitive players that would cause an uproar about such a situation.

Makes sense to me. BW in general for the entire franchise is being pushed as a restart. Makes sense, then, that the TCG be treated in a similar manner.

If there's one thing that is most certain, is that TPCi won't do a BW- rotation. We have way too many sets to warrant such a huge decision. That would mean cutting out all of HGSS before any of the cards really see much playability. Reason being is that many of these cards are restricted in usage due to our current format and it's power-creep. If next format is BW- so many players will lose money and have to invest even more in this game due to 11 sets being cut. I know many new players at my league who buy starter decks from HGSS, and have just grasped the basic rules of the game. Their decks will become effectively useless, and they will have to buy new ones, when they probably don't have such a disposable income like others.

I'm pretty sure even Japan will still be LEGEND- next format, it seems too soon to remove the LEGEND block imo.

I assume that the rotation will take out Uxie, Azelf, Warp Energy, Luxray G, Luxray G Lv.X, Garchomp C, Garchomp C Lv.X, ECT.

I still think it should be and will be PT-on. SP won't be as big of an issue if they don't have Uxie/Azelf. I'm also positive that not having BTS and Dialga G Lv. X would be bad. Overall, I think it is more beneficial to keep in PT then to rotate it.

Drew, have you actually done any testing with SP in a PT-on format? Just curious, cause with what limited testing I've done, SP still dominates. Of course, very limited testing on my part though.

Cyrus + Turn + Gain + Spray would still be around in PT-On. There's no way that would be reasonable for any other decks to handle in a pt-on format. Uxie being gone means every other deck now can't set up / recover against sp.

I still say it'll be either RR-on or SV-on (they've never rotated more than 5 sets), with RR-On most sensible as keeping luxray GL Lv.X will be GOOD for the format (helps counter trainer lock) as well as retaining a lot of BALANCED cards in the last three DP sets.

Which would pave the way for UL-On the following year, and BW-On the year after that.

Erik,

I agree. It's Cyrus Initive, Energy Gain, Powerspray, poketurn, and SP Radar that is the broken part of SP. Nothing changes for a 4th year if they went PL on. Uxie helps, but can be replaced with more draw supportors and maybe a few less tech cards.
I wanted RR-on Last year. Now I can live with HGSS-on.

It seem that the only way P!P/TPCi (or whomever makes these rules) can redeem themselves, is to make the 2011-2012 format HGSS-On.

A clean slate is what this game has needed for 2 1/2 Years. If not, then maybe the World will end in 2012

Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned or if this is even possible(haven't read into the B/W rules thoroughly yet) but if it becomes PT-On, wouldn't Dialga G Lv.X have Trainer, Stadium and Ability Lock? If so, why even make any new sets with Pokemon that have an Ability? Might as well just make sets full of Pokemon cards that would be good if "_____" weren't in the Format, so-so Trainers that are broken in the hands of "Past" decks and situational techs that are great against this but suck against that(this is basically what the HGSS sets were in a nutshell with a few exceptions).

However, since there has been mostly negative talk about TPCi, I will say a few thing positive about them and the way they've handled the TCG over the past year and a half:

  1. I liked how they managed the still release a new set of 80+ cards every 3 or so months to appease the consumer when they didn't have whole sets laid out for them like in previous years. It seems as thought many have forgotten (or at least don't acknowledge) that Japan has really pulled back on releasing Sets of 90+ cards every 3-4 months like in the past. They, instead, release what are basically glorified Theme decks with around 40+ cards every 3-4 Months followed by a traditional Set. This, in turn, causes confusion as to what could be in our English Set and then anger when something is cut, like Vileplume or Lost World. Now, I not sure what prompts them to add in or cut certain cards from each set but i do know there's a reason for it. For example, what would Nats and Worlds have been like if Vileplume was released like many had hoped? A game changing card like that probably wouldn't have been the best thing for the 2 biggest events of the year. So, I think there was at least some method to the Madness (however, maybe the person(s) responsible for that decision were fired before the new Rule changes were decided to be implemented this year).

  2. I still like how everything (excluding Pre-releases) is free. Compared to other TCG games, this is almost unheard of. Not only is it free, but you also get some pretty good prize support in return. Not only at any tournament but now at league too. It many not be like it once was but a line had to be drawn at so point. By just winning a Cities, you got a Pokemon Bag, Binder, Ledger, Pencils, stickers, a Gold Medal with Name of the City on it and a Box of the current Set. Now its just a Box of the current Set, a Medal in the Mail, and a hand shake(maybe). The same could be said about Pre-releases a few years ago. Then you got 6 Packs to start and a Pre-release promo(still do) but once it was over, instead of 2 packs and sleeves or a deck box, you received 4 more packs all for $15 bucks. Even then, I was wondering, where do they make their money from this game? Apparently, they were wondering that as well because they change it to the way its is now. However, I believe this was to keep the game from becoming unfair to the players that don't have the money to travel all over the country and then pay $5-$25 to play once there. I know I wouldn't be happy paying to go halfway across the Country/State, pay to enter a tournament and get donk a 1/3 of the time in this format. It just seems to me that TPCi has spoiled a lot of its players by offering them seemingly fabulous prizes and than taking them away or reducing them to a basic form of prize support in a Set Box and mail-in Medal. To me, as long as they keep events free and the top prizes at big events consistent, it just fine with me.
