ReshiBoar vs. ReshiPhlosion

Reshiphlosion doesn´t rely on Retrieval, which is great against Vileplume. Emboar in the active spot = a prize for your opponent and it won´t take long to get it there with Reversal and Catcher. So much to consistency. Reshiboar might be faster in the early game, because you can attach all Energy you need in one turn. Typhlosion´s way to accelerate the attachment of Energy is a very viable one, but might be complicated against Zekrom. Emboar´s way is good, too, but falls short against Vileplume and is based on your hand (but there won´t be much cases of not getting Retrieval or Energy cards when you need them).

All in all is Reshiphlosion is the better Reshiram option. Both variances are good and successful, but when Catcher comes, Emboar won´t stay long on your field and you won´t be able to do much until he´s gone.

this thread has been done to death. Before nationals it was Emboar, and now everyones saying typlosion. Just use which one youre more comfortable with.

Emboar:

PROS
-Can use RDL or Magcargo
-Only need 1 emboar
-No limit on energy
-better in mirror

CONS
-Isn't as efficient with ninetales
-needs constant drawing to get energy
- Has less room because of energy retrieval, fisherman etc

I think typhlo's a little better at the moment, but it's a choice

I've found it makes very little difference in the mirror and Emboar is actually better against Donphan/Yanmega/Zoroark. Usually I can KO the Reshiram with energy on them via Zoroark before they attack, meaning that two Reshiram are usually gone before they hit double Typhlosion. This puts me at a huge advantage, especially going first and/or if they don't have recovery.

You have to run Retrievals/Fisherman and probably 3 Switch with Emboar. Ninetales doesn't work as well in the deck either. This makes the deck notably less consistent late-game even though it sets up a turn or two sooner in general (imo Typhlosion is not setup until it has two Typhlosion out).

Also, I have not tested either Ty or Boar against Yanmega/Magnezone or Yanmega/Kingdra, but I have heard those go more in Ty's favor compared to Boar. If what I've heard is true then that would make Typhlosion the overall better play for consistency and matchups.

There in your favor the Yanmega/Zone, but don't think its just a blowout. It's really a close matchup that comes down to Reversal flips and Judge draws. In a way the matchup is similar to the stage 1 matchup. Needing a PP to ko a Reshiram makes for a significant difference for stage 1 and Typhlosion.

LOL, Boo Hoo... 4 retreat.

What ever will the poor Reshiboar player do when his defenseless Emboar is dragged out by a reversal...

/sarcasm.

good question .

-Attack
-Retreat
-Play a Switch

Energy isn't hard to come by in this deck (or Reshiboar/Typhlosion for that matter). Either way it's hardly detrimental. Especially since any savvy Boar player will have another set up or a Pignite ready to evolve, for this exact reason.

Say what you will but the positives of Emboar FAR outweigh any negatives anyone can come up with. Having access to unlimited energy attachment, a 150hp 150 damage attacker, and ZERO recovery time between Reshiram KO's are just too good to pass up for a simple 2 vs 4 retreat cost.

You guys stay doing 10 damage with every Afterburner. I'm sure that'll be great for the mirror match and Zoroark's Foul play.

Emboar > Typhlosion any day.

Typhlosion is much better. It has a much better attack and you don't automatically lose to water decks when you attack when this Pokemon. Many time, just that 1 damage counter helped me knock out a Pokemon with using outrage. The thing is, I could discard cards freely and draw my entire deck while Emboar you have to watch out for stuff and depend on energy retrievals.

agree to disagree, I guess.

Having played both variations now, I have to say that my personal preference is TyRam (ReshiPhlosion, Blue Afterburner, Whatever you want to call it). I think the deck is just slightly more consistent since you don't have to depend on a Fisherman/Energy retrieval after a couple of turns. The Afterburner damage does affect the mirror match (or the Boar vs. Phlosion match), but against a lot of the other meta decks TyRam just sets up slightly faster than Reshiboar.

It's really is just a matter of personal preference right now. Both are excellent decks in the current meta. I think that TyRam will edge out ReshiBoar slightly once catcher is released, but then neither deck is going to be as good once Catcher is released.

Emboar in the active spot = a prize for your opponent and it won´t take long to get it there with Reversal and Catcher.

My personal experience shows me the opposite. with the use of fisherman and interviewer's question you can power or even retreat your emboar to bring up again reshiram. also with 150 hp emboar isnt easy to OHKO and with its 80 attack isnt shabby. i dont even run switch.

-Attack
-Retreat
-Play a Switch

Attack? Typhlosion can do better. -1 energy for ten less damage, to get a powerful effect.

Retreat? Typhlosion does this twice as effectively.

Switch? TyRam doesnt even NEED to play switch because of low retreat costs all around.

Tyram is more consistent. It takes better advantage or Outrage. Ty is a better attacker than boar. Need I say more? I used to think Boar was better, but that was before I tested with TyRam. Now my opinion has changed.

My major complaint against Typhlosion is although it proves resistant to disruption, the bench will often need three bench sitters (2 Typhlosion and 1 Ninetales) to immediately set up a new Reshiram once the previous one goes out. Emboar can have one less with just himself and Ninetales. The others out there will typically be E-19, a Pignite (as part of a contingency plan), and another Reshiram. This however, is my preference for having more potential attackers on the field.

It depends on how you play it. I built my reshiboar to be resitant to trainerlock/Mew/muk. I had lot of fisherman and 2 burned towers. My emboars got pulled up like 4 times one game, and I retreated with 4 energy each time. Also boar is better for the mirror. The badboar and RDL also won me some games. Furthermore, I don't think water decks are really a problem--pull out RDL for the last few prizes. I went up against a straight Samurot/feraligator deck; we both set up at the same pace, but he couldn't one-shot my RDL--again saving me. I think it would be kinda hard to use RDL in typhlosion, cuz you'd need 3 tys out for it to be a surprise/not get reversaled.

Even with a good hand it is hard to attach 4 Energies to Emboar in one turn. But let´s say it works. If you retreat you´ve lost important cards to attack constantly for 120 with Reshiram. If you attack for 80 with Boar you have to accept that it could get KOed next turn (2HKO) and that is a quite big risk, if you don´t have another Boar on your bench. Even if this whole procedure works, it would work more than twice as good with Typhlosion.

1. You don´t have to use Fisherman/Interviewer´s/Retrieval
2. Typhlosion´s attack is better
3. Typhlosion´s retreat cost is :colorless::colorless: less

I don't even know why this is still being discussed. Nationals answered this question already. Reshphlosian was much less played and still did much better. The theorymon shows the differences are small, but in practice those small differences in consistency, space, and dependency on a supporting Pokemon make the difference between 6-3 decks and 7-2 decks.

So, Typhlosion decks don't get attachments for turn? Because, if it does, it only needs 1 Typhlosion in play.

When did I say that they didn't? With attachments and 2 Typhlosion in play, you do get the 3 for the new Reshiram. My complaint is having that many bench sitters out there is bad in general.
