I think TPCi frowns upon that - if it's sanctioned, since all sanctioned events must be open to any participants that are eligible to play under their floor rules. However if it's not sanctioned .... you can invite anyone you want to play in an event you control. It's called an 'Invitational.' Doesn't mean that the rest of the players would appreciate it though. That's why I advocate doing that sort of thing on your own time.
Tina, your best set is to read the thread. There have been a number of suggestions back and forth, including 'you can't find who's the best on that day, since a match with a poor draw, poor hand, or playing against your weakness can ruin your chance at getting 1st place and top cuts are where you can redeem yourself after a loss' type of comments, etc. That type of comment has a bit of truth to it, but doesn't take into account that everyone has the same chance at a liability during a match. Competitive players think a lack of a top cut will ruin their chances at something - not sure whether it's the low prizes, or Championship points. Some have suggested that if TPCi stopped giving out CP's it would accomplish the goal of making BR's less important, and therefore there'd be less attendance. I know I'm oversimplifying it, but that's the thread in a nutshell.
Well it would be on the TO's own time as it would be after the event is over, It would not have to be sanctioned or anyting. I suppose you could pair up other players who wanted to play more in gorups of 4 as well.
No one's questioning that anyone can get bad hands. Just because "anyone can have bad luck" doesn't mean P!P shouldn't try to reduce the impact of a donk, dead draw, etc.
@ P_A Even lets say you go x-1 or whatever record and get donked somewhere in the day - The top 4 Would be the same. So lets say r5 I get donked and get 2nd or 3d, get through t4 and make t2. (Then maybe get 1st?)
I guess 1st place to me vs 2nd is something I don't care about in BRs LOL
Yeah Tina, hardly seems worth making a fuss. And since the top cut a lot of times seems to be the repeat of the last round (for the participants of the top cut), that too seems redundant in a lot of cases. Maybe this no top cut decision wasn't that bad of a move after all. Personally I certainly didn't see it coming, that's for sure, and I doubt that if I were in charge I'd do it quite that way - but then again, I don't have all the facts that TPCi has. It might not be too bad though. Let's wait and see.
if something is not broke dont fix it.
But what I really want to know is WHAT possiible purpose is this change being made for? Do they think too many people are particpating in Battle Roads and this is an attemept to limit particpation? I just dont know what the issuse is that is being addressed here. I cant thing of any reason for this change to be made, if something is not broke dont fix it. And I never heard anyone say that Battle Roads were amiss in any way.
The following can be found on Pokemon.com, describing Battle Road tournaments:
"The Battle Road series is designed to provide players with small, entry-level events on a local scale."
I said this before, it looks like TPCi wants to bring back Battle Roads to what they were meant to be.
That was always on the website though.
