not as expensive as hawaii and US players can easily drive to canada ... they could even sleep in a rest area ...
Not to burst your bubble on this thread too pokedad, but some people are 4000 miles away. Still might make it though.:thumb:

It's not really fair to ask people to think beyond the TCG though. That's the reason for the tournament, right? Last time I checked, it wasn't the "2013 Pokemon TCG World Family Vacation." I mean, I see what you're saying, and I'm actually quite excited about Vancouver. But it's hard to say if I'll even be able to go since it's out west again. As I've said before, an east coast Worlds actually benefits many US and European players.
speeder, I'm not trying to be mean, but there a lot of people who just don't have the money to make it to Worlds (let alone an Alaskan cruise). If families want to take a vacation, go for it! But determining the most skilled player in the world comes first.
To my understanding, Worlds will take place at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and I imagine they will take over the Vancouver Convention Centre right next door.
I love this idea. And I agree with all that you say about Vancouver. It's one of my favorite places. But if thinking beyond the TCG and a family vacation were the goal, why wouldn't Orlando be near the top of the list every year? It's only the most popular tourist destination in the world.
But, again, I just love Vancouver and it's a great choice. But the hotels in that city (especially near the Vancouver Convention Center, which is speculated to be the venue) are SPECTACULARLY expensive.
Source please? or speculation?
If you are winning a free trip, would you like to stay at a Super 8 or Motel 6? Part of the award is you get to stay in a fancy hotel that maybe is normally outside your price range.
And for those of us on a limited budget, if it is down town, there are some more reasonably priced hotels a short Sky-Train ride away in the suburbs.
Benefits a lot of people. Vancouver has a great airport (by which I mean what flies there even though it's the best darn airport I've ever been to in my life and count my lucky stars I can call it my home one). There are direct flights to it from London, Paris, and many other European cities. Flights to it from likely every major American airport. Very conveniently located for Japan and the rest of Asia both physically and due to the amount of flights that run there due to our large Asian population. It's also, as you mentioned, much easier for TPCi due to the shorter distance and being able to transport things by land as a result. While I still believe the East Coast is deserving of another major event, I like the choice of Vancouver. It's a great city. Not sure who this benefits (other than Canadians and POP/PUI/P!P shipping stuff and driving up from Seattle) but it's a great change of pace.
With that being said, the 2014 World Championships SHOULD be on the East Coast of the United States of America.
Interesting news! Almost worth coming out of retirement for. Almost. I predict that close to 80% of the Canadian players will show up - even from the eastern provinces.
Toronto would have been worth it to me. Vancouver is cool and all, and a great city, but still a long ways away. Even anywhere in Manitoba would have been doable for me. I have a sister out in BC that I never see since the cost of the trip is too much for me. Hey you never know, maybe the financial situation could change before the year's up.
Does this mean you're going D?
If I am able to go I certainly look forward to the polar bears, maple syrup and mounties Thank you Hetalia for teaching me everything I need to know about America's twin
One of the tournament organizers I know told me, I'm from Vancouver, there is nowhere else the event could take place. He didnt mention the date though, but I assume its the second weekend of August again.
So can the hotels NOT host it in their ballrooms like we have done the past 8 years?
