Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

It's official: It's Vancouver!

Yeah, I suppose if they bike it there, they could start in may or june ....

It's not really fair to ask people to think beyond the TCG though. That's the reason for the tournament, right? Last time I checked, it wasn't the "2013 Pokemon TCG World Family Vacation." I mean, I see what you're saying, and I'm actually quite excited about Vancouver. But it's hard to say if I'll even be able to go since it's out west again. As I've said before, an east coast Worlds actually benefits many US and European players.

speeder, I'm not trying to be mean, but there a lot of people who just don't have the money to make it to Worlds (let alone an Alaskan cruise). If families want to take a vacation, go for it! But determining the most skilled player in the world comes first.

agreed. it sure would be nice if it was in a different spot every year. I would love for it to be on the east coast, Japan and even Europe .. but unfortunately, i get to take a vacation . . . at home next year. as for affordability, well, this is pokemon where people pay hundreds of dollars to get a few playing cards. I think the concept of affordability is lost on some.

but don't despair. I don't think anyone predicted that worlds would be held in Vancouver in 2013. Who knows where it will end up in 2014. Could be in anybody's backyard. Here's hoping it's in yours!

To my understanding, Worlds will take place at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and I imagine they will take over the Vancouver Convention Centre right next door.

I love this idea. And I agree with all that you say about Vancouver. It's one of my favorite places. But if thinking beyond the TCG and a family vacation were the goal, why wouldn't Orlando be near the top of the list every year? It's only the most popular tourist destination in the world.

But, again, I just love Vancouver and it's a great choice. But the hotels in that city (especially near the Vancouver Convention Center, which is speculated to be the venue) are SPECTACULARLY expensive.

If you are winning a free trip, would you like to stay at a Super 8 or Motel 6? Part of the award is you get to stay in a fancy hotel that maybe is normally outside your price range.

And for those of us on a limited budget, if it is down town, there are some more reasonably priced hotels a short Sky-Train ride away in the suburbs.

Source please? or speculation?

One of the tournament organizers I know told me, I'm from Vancouver, there is nowhere else the event could take place. He didnt mention the date though, but I assume its the second weekend of August again.

David, that is a very good point. Waterfront station is only a few blocks from the venue!

Very happy with the decision because
1. Its not in the US for once. Nice to see a change
2. Its a province over from where I live so cheap flight or 14 hour drive

While I still believe the East Coast is deserving of another major event, I like the choice of Vancouver. It's a great city. Not sure who this benefits (other than Canadians and POP/PUI/P!P shipping stuff and driving up from Seattle) but it's a great change of pace.

With that being said, the 2014 World Championships SHOULD be on the East Coast of the United States of America.
Benefits a lot of people. Vancouver has a great airport (by which I mean what flies there even though it's the best darn airport I've ever been to in my life and count my lucky stars I can call it my home one). There are direct flights to it from London, Paris, and many other European cities. Flights to it from likely every major American airport. Very conveniently located for Japan and the rest of Asia both physically and due to the amount of flights that run there due to our large Asian population. It's also, as you mentioned, much easier for TPCi due to the shorter distance and being able to transport things by land as a result.

Not to mention Vancouver is the best city in the world and now you all get to see it ;D It'll almost definitely be downtown IMO and there are a ton of great place to eat at and a wonderful transit service which will take you pretty much anywhere you'll need to be fairly quickly.

If I am able to go I certainly look forward to the polar bears, maple syrup and mounties :D Thank you Hetalia for teaching me everything I need to know about America's twin :D

 You'll have to wear some distinctive shirt so we can get some Mounties to stomp you with their horses and pour maple syrup all over, so the polar bears can eat you like pancakes. Sounds fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately far away... From here anyway. Not sure of how the passport issue will go for a lot of the players here in the US, but I guess we'll never know if we don't try.

Toronto would have been worth it to me. Vancouver is cool and all, and a great city, but still a long ways away. Even anywhere in Manitoba would have been doable for me. I have a sister out in BC that I never see since the cost of the trip is too much for me. Hey you never know, maybe the financial situation could change before the year's up.

Does this mean you're going D?

Gonna give it a shot for sure hopefully.

So can the hotels NOT host it in their ballrooms like we have done the past 8 years?

My apologies, my previous post was misleading. compared to the hilton bayfront and the hilton waikoloa village, vancouver doesnt have many hotels with multiple big ballrooms that can also hold the huge capacity that is the world of pokemon. There are a handful of hotels that fit the bill but the Fairmont is the most logical choice. I am unsure if the VCC is even necessary, either way 'nowhere else' was an exaggeration.
