Awesome. Totally going. Won't be able to play since there are no sanctioned events anywhere remotely accessible for me to even attempt to get CPs (Thunder Bay and Winnipeg both do league but nothing sanctioned), but still being able to attend side events and buy world swag is enough for me. Was already planning a trip out west next summer anyways.

Interesting news! Almost worth coming out of retirement for. Almost. I predict that close to 80% of the Canadian players will show up - even from the eastern provinces.

i know its too early to say, but expect this to be one of the biggest worlds events yet. so many northwest people are going to be there.

Wonder what the Worlds promo will look like. Not exactly tropical so it'll have to be drastically different.

Arctic Beach. Picture of two Vanilluxes using Ice Beam on Pikachu. "Discard cards from your hand until you have one card left. Then, your opponent does the same. Your turn ends." :p

Mid August is usually fairly warm weather in Vancouver. Currently we're looking at a 3 week average of sunny weather 23-27 Degrees C (or 73 to 85 Degrees Fahrenheit). Either way If you're traveling within the states I would take the flight to SEATAC airport in Seattle and take a bus up to Vancouver or take the Amtrak. You will save quite a bit on the flight this way.

Chances are it will be held at the Vancouver Convention Center near the core of downtown, off the waterfront.

For those living in the states its a good opportunity to see what Canada has to offer for tourism and visit a recent Olympic host city.
A walk through historic downtown or a day trip to Whistler, Granville island, Stanley park or our North Vancouver mountains is a must. Vancouver has a great transit system so its very easy to get from place to place. Most big attractions are easily accessible by transit.

It's also important to note that lower mainland BC (the area surrounding and including Vancouver) has a huge OP following. There are a number of leagues in Vancouver and surrounding cities (Burnaby, Surrey, Coquitlam). I'm sure anyone looking to come a week or few days before the event can find plenty of places to buy cards or find a warm up match. I would look at the OP League and tournament finder and call any stores to ask about last minute practice sessions they may be hosting. I personally play at Craving for a Game in Surrey and we usually have practice nights a few days before any big events.

Anyway, if anyone has any questions about the area or our OP in BC feel free to send me a PM. I'm excited about this location and I have no problems answering any inquiries you may have. I'm positive this will be a great event to attend and a nice vacation spot even away from the palm trees in California or Hawaii

While I still believe the East Coast is deserving of another major event, I like the choice of Vancouver. It's a great city. Not sure who this benefits (other than Canadians and POP/PUI/P!P shipping stuff and driving up from Seattle) but it's a great change of pace.

With that being said, the 2014 World Championships SHOULD be on the East Coast of the United States of America.

Except Japan doesn't want to go to the east coast.

I just hope it's not London/Europe...

How about everybody from around the world who will be coming to visit one of the top 10 cities to live during the best time of the year to visit.

Combine it with a cheap Alaskan cruise and you have one great family vacation.

You guys have to think beyond just the tcg. It's a yearly vacation for a lot of families and vancouver definitely ranks up there with the top tourist destinations.

I visit Whistler every summer, so I love the idea of it being on the way up. I'll likely combine my week in Whistler with Worlds, and only have to make one drive ^_^

It's not really fair to ask people to think beyond the TCG though. That's the reason for the tournament, right? Last time I checked, it wasn't the "2013 Pokemon TCG World Family Vacation." I mean, I see what you're saying, and I'm actually quite excited about Vancouver. But it's hard to say if I'll even be able to go since it's out west again. As I've said before, an east coast Worlds actually benefits many US and European players.

speeder, I'm not trying to be mean, but there a lot of people who just don't have the money to make it to Worlds (let alone an Alaskan cruise). If families want to take a vacation, go for it! But determining the most skilled player in the world comes first.

I love this idea. And I agree with all that you say about Vancouver. It's one of my favorite places. But if thinking beyond the TCG and a family vacation were the goal, why wouldn't Orlando be near the top of the list every year? It's only the most popular tourist destination in the world.

But, again, I just love Vancouver and it's a great choice. But the hotels in that city (especially near the Vancouver Convention Center, which is speculated to be the venue) are SPECTACULARLY expensive.

I qualified and went to both the Orlando Worlds. I'm from California and both times I thought the tournaments were great and the atmosphere was great. However, Orlando has the worst weather of any place I've ever been to, hands down. It was so unbearable both times (particularly in 2004) that I didn't want to do anything outside. Aesthetically, Orlando is definitely not better than California, either. And not just San Diego. The humidity in Orlando is just unbearable and I won't be going back if it is held there again. That being said, I am open to other East Coast suggestions.

not as expensive as hawaii and US players can easily drive to canada ... they could even sleep in a rest area ...
