Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Werewolf XVIII: Dimensional Clash: Wolves/Outlaws Win!

There is so much talk about rules and gameplay. Why? This isn't a theory thread, this is a game thread. I want to help out our newer players as much as the next guy, but at least from my experience last game, I found that discussing rules and tactics and such actually really helped the wolves to predict townie moves. We're only making ourselves easier to manipulate this way... look at me go, accentuating the problem.

In any case, VOTE: ECLIPSE. You are the worst IDE and I hate Java because of you. Die in a fire.
FoS Scorri because I could've sworn your name was Scottistru until I looked closer. Playing tricks on me?!

VOTE: PMYSTERIOUS

Had a couple posts of pregame sillyness for no real reason and we have to start somewhere.

Just to let everyone know. I will not be around for today/tonight because I work closing and then I'm going out drinking with co-workers.

So You will hear from me in detail tomorrow.

##Vote: Luster Purge

Let's get that out of the way though.

So, let's get some conversation going.

What kind of roles do we expect to see in a game this big? Surely, there have to be quite a few in a game this big.

How many wolves do we think there are?

How are we going to get 23 people to vote for the same person? That is going to be difficult.

Do we use RVS day one to put pressure on random people to see how they react? Who knows, we might make one of the wolves slip up. Or do we wait to see if anyone acts suspicious?

Sorry if those are some nooby questions, but I am a noob.

I agree with Tables that this first line is 'role-fishing'. We are not here to discuss what type of roles we are going to have. Like him, I am willing to let it go as you being a 'noob', but be careful.

I feel that we probably have 10+ wolves, and possibly a second party, in a game this size.

We managed to get about eighteen people to vote for the same person last game, how difficult can it be to get 23?

Now, I have something to say: Even if you are a noob, that doesn't mean that you should act like one. You have to do your best to help the town win the game. Being a noob is no excuse not to play the game right, and if you make a fatal mistake, we won't hesitate lynching you, even if you are just a 'noob'. Newbies are more likely to make mistakes than experienced players, which means that you've got to keep an eye on your own tracks.

Hey all, I don't have a lot of time for a large post, but just want to make a few points.

Why are we still random voting? We have plenty of information to go off of. Lets get out of RVS now.

Why do we have a player role fishing already?
What does speculating on the number of wolves accomplish?

Will get to reads later tonight.

VOTE: Kayle for being suspicious of two people from Serenes Forest :[. Just add me, Luster Purge and Shinori for good measure k?
(For those who haven't followed/figured it out, a number of us were invited over from another forum for this game. Some of these guys might have had accounts here already, I dunno, but they're all names I recognize from there.

I presume you didn't see my or Jewel's posts, or you've decided to have selective vision and ignore his claim of being a newbie? I don't think we have MUCH information to go off of. The majority of players (estimate only, don't quote me on that) haven't even posted yet, those that have have said one or two things. I agree there's some. I question your assertion there's plenty. I do think it's about time we can move out of RVS though (inb4hypocrisyasIrandomvotedhere), I'll agree with that.

Unvote: Eclipse
Vote: ProHawk

tbh I have been planning the eclipse vote since I saw him/her sign up and I just couldn't resist the IDE joke.

Firstly, if you can figure out the number of wolves early, that's good. We (wolves that is) won XVIIA because we fooled the town into thinking there were fewer wolves than there were and they were unprepraed for LyLo. I don't think we should be discussing it at length, but giving it some attention is definitely called for.

Secondly, ProHawk, consider my vote a stick pointed in your direction until you come back and do something concrete. There are loads of "I don't have time to post but I'll post anyway to not look suspicious" posts going on right now, and I hate all of them, but yours in particular sets me off. "I'm going to criticise other players and then hide behind the excuse of not having time so I don't have to explain myself!" Gross man. Gross.

FoS everybody from Serene's Forest. There, now you can't say I don't share the love.

Going to post this now:

I work long hours at work and generally cannot get online until around 7-8PM EST at earliest. If I don't post too often (and this has been stated in past games as well) it is because my job demands it, but I will make an effort to be active.

@ Diaz - I agree with you to a certain extent. I think that everybody should post regularly, but there are times (like right now with people working double overtime to get extra money for Christmas) where time is scarce and should be more lenient. The thing I hate the most is the "I got finals" excuse because 80% of people here will use that to combat inactivity suspicions.

So your excuse is ok and everyone else's is bad?? Can you understand my skepticism here? I'm trying to make sure everyone understands that not posting often is generally a sub-optimal play. This is something that I don't think we can afford from townies.

I don't think this is a problem, especially the first day of the first game-day. I think that even mid-high level players could benefit from some of the things I've pointed out. I'm looking forward to moving onto other discussion as much as the next guy, but this is the info we have (number of players, rules specifics ect.) so we might as well say what we can about it in the very beginning.
@everyone sorry I posted in the Wrong thread
Can you direct me to the thread where that post would have made sense? Just covering my bases here.

He posted it in the pokegym battle thread, Diaz.

Substantial post from me coming within the hour, finishing up with my doctors office first.

Activity post woo!

Oh wait, you guys want me to contribute huh. *sigh* Fine.

Okay first of all school excuses blah blah blah etc. etc.

Okay! Now that that's out of the way, let's begin a real post!

Vote: Vablakes

My case? He was role fishing. If you are a power role and say what roles you think might be a game, you might end up slipping your own role, which is not what we want.

Speaking of power roles, I want to say something REALLY important. Do not, and I repeat, do not claim unless it is clear that you will be lynched if you do not. (I.E. Don't claim just because someone is voting for you. Only claim if the lynchhammer is definitely coming down on you)

Now, I'd like to put out some important advice for all town players, regardless of role:

When you read a post, put yourself in that person's shoes. Say to yourself, "If I was that player, would I say that if I was Town? Werewolf? Lone?" This is an efficient way to find scum.

Don't bother with policy lynches. It isn't worth reducing the amount of town players for any reason. If they happen to be scummy, that is of course a different story entirely.

Don't play scummy. Sounds obvious, I know, but it happens. Some people do this to avoid nightkills, but it might end up biting you in the butt later when you are forced to claim or get lynched. This is particularly true for Vanilla Townies, since you have no claim to save you, but PRs should avoid doing this like the plague.

Don't lie. The situations where lying is a good idea are few and far between. It makes people suspicious of you unless you can prove it was for a calculated risk.

Don't go down quietly. If you are getting lynched, defend yourself until the end. Self-hammering in particular is a no-no. Letting yourself get lynched without argument is playing against your win condition.

Find towntells as well as scumtells. A lot of people focus on just finding the scum and getting rid of them, but sometimes, finding a pro-town player can be just as helpful. This also allows you to add process of elimination to your ways of finding scum.

Don't bother with meta-reads or post-by-post analyses. I know that seems like a weird thing to say, but all this is doing is going into something knowing your conclusion already, and stretching a bunch of quotes to fit said conclusion. Post-by-post analyses in particular are a waste of time.

Try to avoid putting too much into one post. If someone is skimming the thread, it's unlikely they are going to read everything you say in a gigantic post. Say what you think is important, and nothing more than that.

Remember that you aren't trying to convince another player that they're scum. You're trying to convince everyone else that said player is scum. Arguing directly at them is pointless. Explain to everyone why you think they are scum.

Don't defend yourself too much. Too much of anything is a bad thing. Overly defending yourself distracts you from actively finding out scum. That isn't to say don't defend yourself, by all means do. Just keep in mind that if you are town, you know you are town and you should be looking for the scum, not worrying about keeping up a defense.

Don't think you know the whole scumteam. Chances are, you don't, especially if you have no information on said scum. Don't make up connections until someone has flipped scum, at which point you can try to find connections to other players.

Don't vote for people you don't think are scum. This should be obvious. Don't follow a wagon on someone who you truly think is town. Remember that no one except the scum themselves are certain who the scum is. Stand by what you believe, and don't let others tell you otherwise. At the same time, don't close yourself off to other opinions.

I feel like I forgot something, but maybe it'll come to me later.

What I meant by "What kind of roles do we expect to see" is what are there usually in a large game? I'm not looking for someone to say "Hey! I'm (insert role here)!".

Noted: asking what roles we expect to see=bad.

Sorry for being a noob guys, last time I'll do that.

Anyhow, I'm not going to use RVS yet. I'm gonna wait for now.

GAME IS FROZEN

There has been an issue brought to my attention which could result in some mod kills or replacements. Please stand by

---------- Post added 11/30/2012 at 03:18 PM ----------

Ok, I'm going to have to talk the situation over with LEX. She won't be on until later, until then the game is frozen.

However, I do believe that the game state can be repaired by replacing the involved players, although we are short by a replacement. If you have a friend who would like to play, please contact him/her as the chance they'll get in immediately is very likely. And until enough replacements are found, replacing all the players involved is not an option.

There will be an extension for the day, the length will depend on how long this takes. Thank you.

The players Akane, King Piplup and Cabd will be replaced due to gaining information outside the game as soon as a third replacement can be found. The game will then continue once this is done.

If anyone has information that they should not have, please come forward now.

Just a reminder to you all. If you role does not say that it's mandatory, it is NOT forced use.

Noted. Roles will be PM'd tomorrow, the game will restart once confirmation is received, or at the end of the day. So please, you three replacements, make sure you're online tomorrow.

---------- Post added 12/01/2012 at 09:14 AM ----------

Roles sent out, just waiting for confirmation.

You don't have to worry about Tina. She's an avid gamer and has talked with me about getting in on a Gym game of WW fairly often at tournaments. I'll vouch for HoM and you can consider her confirmed.

Let's get it on!
