Where does http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-trading-card-game/xy_series/xy1/ state that it will be Blastoise and Venusaur that have the Mega Evolution? I can't seem to find it there.....
They're on the pack art.

He was noting the power creep, I was noting how that's not really the case as they're not as worthwhile as many EXs.
I think you overestimate. It's certainly possible to pull off T1, but I wouldn't say it's easy. Plus it has a glaring weakness to Thundurus EX. Not saying it's bad, just not as easy to abuse as I think people think.
I'd like to point out a few things:
1) We don't know anything about their prize rewards.
2) Golurk with devolution punch. LET THEM WASTE THAT TURN.

Also, with Yveltal, Darks are getting their own Mewtwo EX. What the crap.
No I guess it's not that easy without energy switch or something similar I don't think he will completely dominate the format...
Yes that would be a viable strategy if 1) they were EVOLVED but they are basic so no dice 2) if they had to level up in he active spot, I am fairly certain that they will be able to level up to mega on the bench that is why they changed catcher to a flip to give Megas a chance to level up unmolested.

Before playing a Mega Evolution Pokémon to evolve a Pokémon-EX, players must consider the situation carefully—doing so ends their turn immediately, which means they can’t attack that turn!

We still don't know the 100% solid terminology on this stuff to be making assumptions on strategies just yet.
All we know thus far is they are called mega evolutions, meaning they evolve into a mega form. Which would infer devolution punch would work as we know so far.
So you that Mega EX's will be a stage 1 evolution card that is placed onto the basic EX card?

I don't see why everyone is complaining. Everyone wants evolutions to be more viable, yet these mega evolutions ARE evolutions. They are stage one pokemon. They slow the game down by passing a turn as well, so the soonest the card could attack or use an ability at all would be on turn 3. These cards could be what the game needs.
Spent time looking at the cards revealed and skipped the pack art. Will gander next time i'm there. Likes my announcements from official sources.

(From Pokémon.com) The revolutionary Mega Evolution game mechanic is coming to the brand-new Pokémon TCG: XY expansion! Mega Evolution Pokémon evolve from Pokémon-EX, extremely powerful cards in their own right, creating a force that will change the way Pokémon TCG players build decks and create strategies for battle.
Before playing a Mega Evolution Pokémon to evolve a Pokémon-EX, players must consider the situation carefully—doing so ends their turn immediately, which means they can’t attack that turn! The risky move is worth the reward, however, because Mega Evolution Pokémon exhibit a strength that surpasses that of Pokémon-EX. Hard-hitting attacks and high HP totals make Mega Evolution Pokémon dominant during Pokémon TCG matches
There was that brief period after the 2011 rotation but before Catcher was released where the format was loaded with stage 1 decks. That was a nice time. When players speak of "evolutions", I believe they are summing up the notion of using single-prize Stage 1's and Stage 2's as the main attackers. The last time this was the case was 5 years ago with the release of Stormfront. After that, we got SP Pokémon which provided a decent attacker without needing to evolve (but can still level up if desired), Double Colorless energy again, big Basics, Gust of Wind again, two-prize EX's, and now something on top of EX's.
I'm so glad they nerfed Catcher. But I'm still waiting to see what the restrictions and benefits of Mega evolving are.
