So after last week going 7-1 and getting 5th, I was hoping to do better. I decided to make some changes from the week before which included dropping some of my techs for Reversals and dropping Regice. I felt that the Reversal and everything else in my deck helped get the matchup to 60/40 or better in my favor. It definitely was the case. The fact that I never used ICE made it a good choice. I figured Felicity’s would be good enough for it, as it was last week. This held up to be true. I am currently unsure if I will play in Regionals, it is going to depend on my rating/ranking.
R1 – Elizabeth G. – Flygon/Nidoqueen
I know that Gyarados has a great matchup against Flygon, however my start is really really bad. I manage to get 1 of the first 5 prizes and have to use 5 Flash Bites to KO her Active Flygon Lv. X, I somehow manage to get it down to 1-1, but know that she can KO me by attaching an Expert Belt if she has it and DCE. Her last prize was TS-2 which was good for me, and after an insane amount of Draw and an Expert Belt, she whiffs on grabbing the DCE FTW, so I end up win on my turn to take it 6-5 on prizes. Great Game!! :thumb:
Win (1-0)
R2 – Joe D. – Kingdra
He plays a slower version of Kingdra and can’t get an Uxie or Claydol out, I proceed to 6-0 him.
Win (2-0)
R3 - Boris – Shuppet Donk
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about this matchup, however Luxray Lv. X made this so easy. I was able to KO a few Pokemon before he got the double Mime up. I manage to bring up Pokemon via Bright Look to take all 6 of my prizes.
Win (3-0)
R4 – Andrew Murray – Glaceon
He tells me that it is a horrible matchup for him, and it was, the fact that I could one shot his Pokemon didn’t help as I proceed to 6-0 him.
Win (4-0)
R5 – Darrell – LuxChomp
I find I am playing down to a 3-1, which wasn’t very good for me. I start for only the 2nd time with Sableye. I go and grab some Pokemon, he proceeds to double Flash Bite and used Ambipom to KO me via DCE. I bring up another Sableye and he does it AGAIN. However it goes down from him from there as I manage to take the next few prizes and take a lead which I don’t relinquish.
Win (5-0)
R6 – Anthony G. – LuxChomp
I get a good setup and his isn’t that good. I get 90 on his Dialga G Lv. X with Expert Belt attached. He somehow gets Dialga G Lv. X to the bench (Warp Energy or normal retreating) for Luxray. I proceed to go 1 for 3 on my reversal flips hitting the last one and bringing up his Dialga and I KO it for 2 prizes. He can’t regain the prize lead and I end swiss once again with a perfect record.
Win (6-0)
T8 – Luke D. – Donphan
G1 – I was pretty happy to be facing a deck I should win if I get setup, however I felt really bad for Luke, who every year makes cut at States and manages to face the one person who can prevent him from earning a trophy, it is quite unfair. I get setup, and being able to OHKO Donphan’s he loses.
G2 – I start with Karp and top deck a Sableye, which makes him quite upset as he can’t donk me which was his only chance. I get setup once again and go right through him.
Win (7-0/8-0)
T4 – Anthony G. – LuxChomp
G1 – I don’t remember much, but I know that I won the game in about 15 minutes. I just had an amazing start to his eh start. He does misplay which gives me G1 as he had the win, but just didn’t see it.
G2 – This match was epic, I couldn’t draw a rescue. I used Azelf early and he sprays me, the following turn during I use Suicune praying that he doesn’t have a spray. He doesn’t and I get my Karp and Gyarados, this is followed by 7 turns of Deafen. I finally have him KO Sableye, and manage to get the prizes to 2-1 in favor of me, however he is trying to deck me, but he is running out of turn and while I had only 2 cards in my deck, I did have a Bebe’s to put a card back, the fact was that there was no way he could deck me, and the fact that he had only 2 minutes to deck me of 3 cards wasn’t enough time. He breaks the Deafen lock and I use Warp Point to seal G2.
Win (8-0/10-0)
T2 – Darrell M. – LuxChomp
G1 – He gets an awful start and I get an insane start, he still manages to T1 my Sableye again...with Ambipom, but I have another basic. It goes downhill fast as I manage to take 4 straight prizes to go up 4-1 on prizes and he scoops. The game took less than 15 minutes.
G2 – Much better game, but my reversal flips absolutely kill him, I am able to KO his Luxray too quickly which prevent him from really doing any serious damage. I manage to get a 2 to 3 prize card lead because of that. I have 1 prize left and he has 4 or 3 left and uses Drifblim FB to KO my Azelf. I luckily read Drifblim’s body realizing it has 120 HP. I play Cyclone and I TAKE NY STATES!!
Win (9-0/12-0)
I manage to win 9 games (that count towards my final record) for the first time. I manage to not lose a game after going 7-1 losing only the T8 matches last week. My changes helped and definitely were the right ones. Not playing Regice was an amazing idea and didn’t hurt me at all. I was quite surprised that my deck doesn’t need it.
Props –
Going 9-0/12-0 and winning NY States by going undefeated.
Greg S. for helping me test
Mikey, Kettler, and Jay for just talking it over for me.
No Regice
Going 16-1 at States and most likely getting my rating to a point where I don’t need to play to earn a Worlds Invite.
26-2 overall record with Gyarados this year and a 61-9 record so far overall this year.
Lori for driving me home.
Christina Ortiz…
Going 3-0 on Wager for States!!
Gaining over 120 points at States (57 for DE and most likely 70+ from NY)
Getting some Glass and other goodies including $300 when I go to Nationals. :thumb:
Anything I am forgetting, let me know I will add it.
