So I decide to play LuxChomp for the second week in a row which I'm a little worried about but it's the only deck I feel confident in. My differences from last week however were very good choices. The deciding factor in my top two games was Dragonite which I didn't have last week. I also had an Expert Belt that basically won me Gyarados and helped another time. Anyway, to the report.
Round 1 Jake w/ Jumpluff/Meganium
I REMEMBER NOW. Sorry dude.
So he got a horrid start and I think the biggest thing I had to deal with was a Parasect which got Dragon Rushed. Beat up a few Sunkerns and whatnot. 1-0
Round 2 vs. Olliver w/ Gyarados
I get a pretty good start other then my starter being Dragonite. He has a worse start however and it takes him about three turns to get just two Magikarp in the discard pile. I then kill a Gyarados giving him three. There was one point where I was worrried he would be able to make a comeback but thankfully he doesn't. At some point I kill an Expert Belted Gyarados and I think I kill three other Gyarados total. Luxray'd a Crobat and Garchomp'ed something for my other two prizes. 2-0
Lunch. Washington food table holla.
Round 3 vs. Liam 1 w/ Gengar
He gets a jank start but does get a turn two Nidoqueen. SInce it can only do forty for a couple more turns I don't see at asa threat and instead take prizes off benched things. I Spray'ed and important Uxie at some point. Later on he does manage to get a Gengar upt hat takes a couple prizes but ti's too late to catch up. 3-0
Round 4 vs. Riley w/ Jumpluff
I donk with Claw Swipe. 4-0
Round 5 vs. Liam 2 w/ Blaziken/Luxray
We both get pretty crappy starts but mine is interesting. I have Dragonite start, Bronzong, Unown G, Lightning, Energy Gain, Poketurn, Spray and some other unusable junk. I go first topdeck... Aaron's Collection. Attach Lightning to Draggy and pass. He Luring Flames my Bronzong. I draw.... Cyrus! Yessss. So I Poketurn Bronzong, Cyrus for some stuff including a SP Radar so I can spray and Mach Blow. I spray his Uxie leaving him with pretty much nothing. He forgets to retreat Crobat for Uxie so I get another prize with Draggy. More or less from there I'm able to get stuff and he isn't and win relatively easily. 5-0
Round 6 vs. Katelynn w/ LuxChomp
Girls at the top table yaaaaa. > I genuinely want her to win after a good game because she really deserves this but unfortunately we don't get a good game. She has a turn one Garchomp + DCE to my some random basic I don't remember. I'm able to KO her Garchomp with a turn one EQ, She only has Bronzong left and can't get another basic. I'm able to get the Dragon Rush + Crobat. 6-0
So I make Top 8 and find out I'm playing against T-tar. Ugh.
Top 8 Vs. Cobi w/ T-tar
Game 1: His start his bad and he only sees one T-tar with four energy which I'm able to return KO via Toxicroak + Expert Belt. He scoops. 1-0
Game 2: I wreck his setup and he just can't do much. 2-0
During dinner break my friend Erica and I went off to the arcade nearby and spent five dollars on crane machines each. I come back with a blue hedgehog, an alien, a duck and a seal. WOO
Top 4 Vs. Liam 2 w/ Blaziken/Luxray
Game 1: We get better games in this time but things go sort of similar to my swiss round against him as I get early Dragonite and sweep a bunch of stuff. 1-0
Game 2: Pretty much the same. 2-0
Katelynn loses in top four. Sorry girl, us in top two at regionals.
This was Liam's first states and I am yet again amazed at how these players do so well in their first big tournament. Congratulations dude.
Top 2 Vs. Steven R.
Alright so I swear everyone in the room walks by, rolls, their eyes, and makes some comment as it is fully known to everyone we are "rivals".
Game 1: He gets an early lead and I am super close to scooping but I decide to see what I can do since my hand is still pretty good. I think I might have some chance to mount a comback with Draggy and Garchomp. I do. I play around his Ambipom by attaching three energy to Garchomp. He can't return KO's as well as I am since all his things are dying in one shot. He gets rid of Draggy with EQ and I do the same thing to his Garchomp. I haven't used Aaaron's yet and I have Garch X and Draggy in the discard. He sees that he can't get his last one or two prizes (don't remember) and scoops. 1-0
Game 2: We stay pretty even throughout this game. it actually goes pretty similarly to game one except that Dragonite is prized and I don't get it until my third prize since I had no way to efficiently Azelf for it. Once I do get it Dragonite is his amazing self and takes a couple prizes. It comes down to him with an Expert Belt'ed Garchomp and me with a Garch X, no energy with sixty damage, a Luxray X, no damage with an energy. I'm able to get Bronzong, he can't spray the switch attach to Garchomp and EQ his Garchomp for my last prize. 2-0
So I win. hoorah.
