Alright, apparently great lakes is in the fall. And, my mom apparently saw somewhere on some site that 2 regionals are being added. I don't know where though. (where they will be or where she saw that)

So, when I first heard about this I was under the impression that each area was getting two regionals (ie the pacific northwest would get a regionals in OR, as usual, and then an extra in Seattle). When I was under that impression I was all for it. I mean, more tournaments, more fun, more prizes, more trips, more points, etc.
However, now that I fully understand the situation and realize that Regionals are simply being split up between November and April, I can't help but think this is a bad idea. There are certainly going to be people who can travel to two different regionals, and although that doesn't present all that much of a problem in most cases, if there are players that can both travel to two different regionals and get an unusual number of Cities (Florida, the northwest, etc.) it could present a real ratings problem. I also just don't really see how this is all that much of a benefit, as it only provides more travel costs, time off work, etc. to most players.
Also, maybe I'm not fully understanding the situation as I'm not a big fan of competitive video game play, but don't VGC regionals get thousands of competitors in some areas? Unless there are going to be some major overhauls to both VGC and TCG regionals, I can't imagine that combining with the VGC is going to cause anything but a headache. For instance, in my area both events are staffed by more or less the same people, and it already seems to be quite the workload for everyone.
On the bright side, if it's arranged correctly, only good can come from players being able to travel to more tournaments. Also, moving to two days is an incredible step.
Ugh.
Just one more tournament you have to fly to to make worlds by rating.
I was hoping they give trips/invites to Regional Winners. It looks less likely (didn't expect them to do that, but hope reigns eternal). I don't like High Number of Ranking Invites. Ranking Invites make people nasty, and playing ranking system games to get their invites. Getting to Worlds is just too over the top for me.
It results in the following:
- Can't Play Fun Decks; Have to Play Low Risk Decks at EVERY EVENT. (Ross (who I respect allot) played Lux Chomp to win his regionals to get into worlds)
- Feel that you can't lose to anyone. (And act like it)
- Have to have ZERO SoTG. (Ask me what snots top rated Juniors and Seniors can be, and Masters too.)
- Can't miss Regionals, States or Cities, then if ratings are high, feel pressure to "skip" Nationals.
When players really think Each and Every Match is the WORLD, you get some ugly situations. I have given up on playing the WORLDS or NOTHING crap a long time ago, because I would rather try to have fun and try to win that day, while risking some crash and burns. Anything to remove this RATING shadow over the players is a good thing for better SoTG and Fun.

Yes, ranking takes away from SotG, but NO, there is NO way we should just award invites from individual tournaments.
Luck ALWAYS plays a factor. A good player can have a crappy day and go 0-3 drop. It happens. I think awarding people for CONSISTENT play is an important aspect.

That... pretty much says what I would say, but done much better. But i will bite and ask you what you mean by being snots. (If it's too bad for the public, PM i guess?)
