2nd

This card isnt too good because your opponent gets to pick but it can be frustrating because you will probably regret picking that certain card or something later in the game. But still, I wouldnt use it

5.5/10

Back when DP was out, I used to play this card like crazy. I always seemed to get just the right five cards at the right part of the game to make the decision incredibly difficult for my opponents. Good times.

Now it's kind of useless, so...

5/10

Well, this card has its ups and its huge downs.

Ups? Its the only straight draw supporter (Not counting Volkners, but that has its own limitations) that has a net gain of more then 2 cards. Oaks is see 3, drop 1, leaving with hand+2. Felicitys is discard 1/2 draw 3/4, again hand+2. However, our little rival is see 5 keep 3, leaving you with hand+3!

That being said, giving your opponent control of what cards those are makes it pretty much useless. A good opponent can generaly figure out which cards will be the most useful at any given time, and be able to choose acordingly.

Overall, 4/10, since DOES give you the most cards.

Personally I like this card even if your opponent gets to pick them you get three cards no matter what and if your and you deck are the best of buddies you should be able to do with what they give you, it has pulled off a few wins for me.

6/10

here is what i think is a severly under played card. You get 3 cards, while bucks and moms and others only get you two. You reveal top 5 cards of your deck and your opponent picks 3 cards for you to keep.

yes this means that he picks what you have, but unless he just used lookers or he read your gestures he has no idea what you need. So this could be really good.

But the problem is the card is inconsistent, depending on what cards are the top 5 and depending on what your opponent knows about the game situation.

But it is still a good card and get a 7/10

This was a decent supporter when it first came out, just for the fact you get three cards, but now it is easily out shined. Allowing your opponent to pick what you receive is also very detrimental.
5.5/10

Watch in amazement as your opponent hands you 3 Energy and screws up your next Cosmic Power/Uxie drop by giving you a handful of stuff you can't play.

Actually, if you are running Rival, you probably haven't even heard of Claydol and Uxie.

If there is one thing worse than relying on coin flips, it is relying on your opponent's actions.

3/10 (just cos it's better than nothing)

/\ Agreed with above.

gengar says, "here's a stadium and 2 supporters, poltergeist, Thanx =D"

but it's better than nothing so 3/10

We jumped back into Pokemon with DP. We didn't have any of the supporters from the prior sets: Bill's Maintenance, Mr. Stones, Briney's, Celio's, Holon Mentor, etc... so Rival was a staple in our decks.

We still don't have enough Roseanne's Research for all 4 us for multiple decks. Sigh... enough Claydols? That's a laugh.

At least we have picked up enough other draw cards that we can give Rival away to new comers.

This brings to a point that really bugs me. Why does Pokemon put Potions, Mom's Kindness and other sub par trainers and supporters into most all of the pre-built decks? The Flourish Theme Deck packs: 2 Potion, 2 Switch, 2 Double Full Heal, 2 Dusk Ball, 2 Poke Ball, & 1 Pokemon Rescue. Oh boy!

Back to Rival... you do get 3 cards out of this Supporter, which is better than many other draw cards. It's also an interesting interactive play just to see what other people will give you when you use it.... nice for league play.

5.5/10

I find this card and Quick ball to be great for building simple "starter" decks for new kids.

NOBODY wants to run the card, so there's more than enough to go around.

The card almost ALWAYS gets you energy too...

Rival is down there with Mom's Kindness and Marley's Request as one of the worst supporters in the game. Unless your playing someone who just has no clue what's going on, you're never going to get what you need...unless you need bunches of energy.

2/10, and only because sometimes all 5 cards are useful at the moment you play it.

Worthless really, Rival has to be one of the most pointless Supporters ever made. Letting your opponent choose what cards you get is never, ever a good thing, as they obviously will not give you any card that you need, meaning you'll more than likely be stuck with 3 worthless cards. Add the fact that there are so many better Supporter draw options, Rival just seems worthless, even back when D/P was new.

Modified - 1/10 (I cringe when I see these in decks, as it means the player is either inexperienced or really has nothing better to use)
Limited - 6/10 (As bad as it is, it's still some form of draw, but a risk-reward kind of Supporter for sure)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Yeah, no use here at all with all the superior options)

I've always wanted to put Mom's Kindness in a tournament deck for a BR or something and do well with it, just so I can say I did.

But this card... never would I put in for a joke. Way too awful to use. Gave all of mine to the FT LAUD LOUD MOUTH.

1/10.

I agree with Yoyo
The 2nd worst supporter ever made.
2/10 mainly because this is one of the only supporters that actually leaves you up 3 cards, and if your deck is built the best it can be, the three worst cards your getting should actually be decent. But if you deck is built to the best it can be this card shouldn't be in it anyways.
