aya, absol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absol used to be one of THE top disruption cards, requiring only one energy to be discard a card from you opponent's hand, with the potential to discard another.

Raid is a decent donk attack, with a special dark, you can ko most non-sp pokemon with 1 hit

7/ 10, for being nice and disruptive, but not very useable otherwise.

^very productive post.

Starters are dead. However of all the starters (which is what this is, although it doesn't help you set up) this is one of the better since the format is trainer intensive and you are very likely to discard 2 cards, wrecking your opponents set up. Raid is also not to shabby considering a surprise 40 is handy when so many Pokemon have free retreat (letting you play Absol on the bench and then make it active) and warp point as become a staple. To bad it requires a darkness energy to use. (Who uses dark Pokemon now-a-days?)
6.5/10 This is one starter that still has use later on:pokeball:

Back in the early DP-on days, Absol (SW) was the choice for the starters, along with Pachirisu (GE), and Stantler (SW). It's Baleful Wind attack is very annoying early game and combined with Team Galactic's Mars and Team Galactic's Wager, the combo provided early game disruption. However, as the game became fast-paced and the need for starters have dwindled significantly, Absol's use has quite decreased as well. In addition, the presence of Claydol in almost every deck makes the players not mind about the discard much.

As for Raid, which does a possible 40 damage for 1 Dark energy is pretty neat although IMO Sableye is better in terms of donk potential. In addition, Raid can't be used during set-up unlike Overconfident (and the presence of several 50HP basics make it a more advantageous attack over-all).

Still, this card is a neat starter if you choose to run it and it's best placed in a deck which provides disruption with cards such as Giratina LV. X or even Empoleon LV. X although those are not that common.

Modified- 7.5/10 (good but is eclipse by better starters, namely Pachirisu (GE) and Sableye (SF))
Limited- 9/10 (great here because of the inadequacy of draw power although you there's a slightly fewer opportunities to discard a Supporter or Stadium here)

Before StormFront, I used 4 of these as my starter for an old MT Beat Down T-Tar deck (SF brought us a much better T-Tar and starter in Sableye, of course), and worked very well with it! The MT T-Tar also disrupted via your opponents deck, and I teched in the GE darkrai X for the extra dmg.

I give this Absol an 8/10 for giving me a good trip in the way back machine! :)

I used this card n a fun deck last week and wrecked havoc against Palkia Lock I give this card a 9/10 :)

I have been testing this card like crazy since last week and its reeeeeeally good. (and it makes your opponent say bad words when you discard thier candies!) 70 HP is solid enough that you can get off 2+ baleful winds.

9/10

i like playng it with giratina just pluck there hand and giratina x comes all you have no cards tyou can't attack but claydol and stuff like that have made it harder to pull off

7/10

An ok starter, but it requires a bit of luck to be at its best, and I don't like relying on luck in Pokemon.

6/10

Today's CotD is Absol from SW. Briefly good for a few months last season, Absol was particularly nasty due to a T1 Baleful Wind ruining your initial hand, but ever since Claydol GE came out, Absol SW has pretty much been a dead duck. Anyways, statwise, 70 HP is a decent amount, +20 Weakness to :fighting: is bad, -20 Resistance to :psychic: is useful, and :colorless to Retreat is cheap. Baleful Wind, as previously mentioned, can ruin initial set-ups entirely; for :colorless, you get to randomly discard a card from your opponent's hand, and if it's a Trainer/Supporter/Stadium, you get to randomly discard another card as well. Given that over half of the cards in your average deck are some variant of Trainer cards, it has a pretty good chance of discarding 2 cards. Raid was (and still is) fairly worthless; for :dark: you deal 10 and if you played Absol this turn, get to add another 40. Rarely, you could pull off a surprise T1 KO, but it definitely was more uncommon than not.

Modified - 2/10 (Might have once been good, but not anymore since Claydol/Uxie destroys any initial advantage you might have gotten with Baleful Wind)
Limited - 4/10 (Not useful here either since so few decks even have Trainers)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here at all)

70 hp stinks, retreat is great, weakness is alright.

Baleful wind- discard 1 card from the opponents hand, and if its a supporter pick 1 more. hand disruption decks are not popular right now because of claydol and nm and pokemon resuce, But I do have 1 deck that does do hand disruption and can snipe claydol, but I dont use this card. I dont use it because this attack does no damage and will probably just discard 1 card. Mars can do that. I prefer ambipom mt.

Raid- for 1 darkness you do 10 damage, and if you just played him 40. For 1 thing darkenss decks arent played that much. For another its hard to get him active when you just played him. And for another 40 damage stinks anyway.

2/10- there are better people to disrupt and to attack.

I'm amazed at the love shown to this card.

For disruption, but no damage = 5/10
Raid maybe for 50 and a one time shot only = 2/10
It has a retreat cost = 1/10
+20 weakness = 1/10
-20 resistance = 9/10
70HP a tad light these days = 5/10
Sadly this card used up a rare slot in too many of my packs.

Overall 2.5/10

Baleful wind is a great attack, most likely discarding 2 trainers from your opponent's hand. Then, when your opponent KO's absol, you can use upper energy effectively. Azelf MT hurts it though, probably making it just below playable. 7/10
