i dont really like it besides the much overlooked frosslas combo. it makes for a fun rogue deck.

I can totally see a deck for this.
If Eerie Aura stacks... this will be so epic.

BDIF if it does...Darkrai Lv.X Anyone? I mean, come on!

Today's CotD is Darkrai G from RR, another ok SP Pokemon. Statwise, 90 HP is nice for a SP, x2 Weakness to :fighting: is bad, -20 Resistance to :psychic: is good, and :colorless:colorless to Retreat is kinda expensive. Eerie Aura is a nice Poke-Body, letting you put 1 damage counter on each of the opponent's Pokemon that is asleep inbetween turns (presumably this also stacks, meaning you can get in as much as 4 damage counters inbetween turns). Darkness Sleep is also ok, dealing 50 for :dark::colorless:colorless :)colorless less with Energy Gain) and putting the Defending Pokemon to sleep if they have any damage counters on them. I dunno, it would be cool to build a deck around (possible total of 8 damage counters inbetween turns is nothing to laugh at), but Sleep is such a poor status condition, and way too dependent on the opponent to not flip Heads (shame Shiftry doesn't have a sleep inducing attack).

Modified - 6/10 (If you can build a deck around this I think it would be cool, but the fact that it relies on Sleep sucks)
Limited - 7/10 (If anything this guy has nice HP to take blows, and if you can inflict Sleep somehow, all the better for free damage)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here really)

I prefer instant sleep status. If you wanna make Darkrai G's Pokebody work no matter what, use Shiftry (RR) and Darkrai (MD) with it. Who cares about Froslass? You put the opponent to sleep and they have a chance of waking up and Darkrai G's Pokebody doesn't come into effect if the defending Pokemon is awake. With my idea, you'll have Shiftry (RR) active, and play Darkrai (MD) on your bench and use announce Darkness Shade as you put it on your bench. Then while Darkrai G's on your bench, it can damage all Pokemon in play provided you don't knock out the defending Pokemon. Only cards that would stop this combo would be Super Scoop Up, Switch, Warp Point and Poke-Turn (if the defending Pokemon is an SP). If it's an SP deck you're facing, then they're wasting a Poke-Turn just to remove that status.

Shiftry RR only works with flips that happen during their turn, like Confusion. Sleep happens in between turns.

The best combo out there for this card is Darkrai Level X. Parasect doesn't do wonders for it, Venasaur is sub-par with it, and the Frostlass combo is absolutely horrible in spite of what people are under the impression of. So this is a one-hit wonder. I actually tried a few decks with this: It only consistently works with Darkrai Level X, using a mixed line of the 'Sleep Hole' Darkrai and the MD Darkrai.

7/10.

I tried running this once, and really, having like 2 on the bench and watching them flip awake is really heartbreaking. Much more practical on paper than in practice. 2/10.

To be fair, theres much better cards that do the same job of stacking up damage (Bronzong for starters)
HOWEVER: Shiftree combo's nicly with some of these guys on the bench and 1 active, for that reason this card gets 4/10
in a special deck 8/10.

Shiftry's PokeBody only works on your opponent's turn, not between turns when you flip for Sleep so there is no combo there at all.

Anyways . . .

Darkrai G is an interesting card, probably best played with Darkrai MD and the LV X.

Remember when the spoilers for Darkrai LV X came out and people were saying 'OMG! Auto-KO for staying asleep, that's BROKEN!!11shiftone!'?

Well Darkrai turned out to be much too slow and was only ever seen in meh Blissey decks and awful T-tar lists.

It's still too slow, and still too easily avoided, but at least Darkrai G can give it a bit of fun support.

4/10

I really, really wanted to love this card and tried it in a dark deck. With Energy gain and 2 special dark you could potentially hit for a quick 80 (if they stayed asleep), but it proved to be far too slow. If only it had a good first attack (something like Infernapes) that spread 20 to 2 Pokemon it would be a little more playable. Too many heavy hitters in today's game and not enough weakness to dark types IMO.

Cool art though.

5/10

It's an alright card. I use it in my Galactic Tool Box deck. Crobat G slides a damage counter onto them, Darkrai G puts them to sleep. of course, he's just back up for me, and not my maine attacker. Just consistent damage with a respectable amount. becuse Honchkrow may do forty, but could also do just 20. Toxicroak could do 60, but also could do just 20. Crobat can't do any attack damage at all, Skuntank can only do 20 if you actually bother to attack with him, and weavile can do up to 70, yes, but even he can be in a position where he can only do 20. Darkrai is a constant, consistent, 50 damage, no ifs ands or buts. Sometimes you just need that consistency.

All in all, though, as a tech he's only okay, and if you're really trying to use him for a sleep deck, It would probably have been preferred if he was in a normal darkrai, that had an attack you could get to faster, + an attack that could potentially do more damage than just 50.

It's a really cool card.It would be cool if they made a Lv. X I think, plus there are quite a few Pokemon that cause sleep so it's versitile as well. 8/10

Re: w. Froslass, you don't gain much. If opponent flips heads, a waste of time.

Re: w. Darkrai Lv.x, good, but I think Machamp will give it loads of trouble, and Poke-Turn takes care of other situations. Not bad.

Re: Parasect. I think this is possibly better than Darkrai because of Parasect's built-in acceleration. Haven't tested, but looks to be above average.

Re Shiftry: If the Poke-Power worked in the other situations, the best use would be Time Skip. Ouchie!

OMG you're right. So there's was a mistake when I put my friend's Gardevoir to sleep with my Darkness Shade Darkrai and he didn't flip a coin between turns. That was a misread on our part. Darkrai LV. X is a great combo to go with Darkrai G but there's still 1 problem. What if the person flipping the 2 coins after Endless Darkness comes into effect and that person's well known for the bad luck of rolling only tails? That ruins your plan right there. Or even for people who have great luck and wake it up? Same thing. That ruins your plan right there. But at least it's harder to wake for the player who's Pokemon is affected by Darkrai LV. X's Endless Darkness to wake their Pokemon up.

Okay so then I'd team Shiftry up with Umbreon then. Deal out 50 with automatic confusion. Then retreat it for free because of it's Pokebody and bring Shiftry in to the active position.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you can't do that. You'd have to wait until your next turn, by which time your opponent would have healed/switched/retreated.
