The 2009 Pokémon TCG World Championships is THE Premier Event of the year! Only players who receive invitations via their National Championships, Premier Rating, or performance at the 2008 World Championships are permitted to play in this event. Additionally, top-ranked players in the Last Chance Qualifier will receive an invitation to participate in the 2009 World Championships. The event will host top players from around the world competing for the title of Pokémon TCG World Champion and for scholarships worth up to $7,500.

Pokémon Organized Play will be awarding invitations to the 2009 Pokémon TCG World Championships in a variety of ways. The list below breaks down how invitations will be distributed over the course of the 2008–2009 tournament season.

Well to point out they are giving an *1* invite to Hong Kong. I heard there was no Premier Events there.... anyone have any scoop on this?

Maybe I can donk my way through nats again...probably not.

Looks good. I think this is about the best way to decide invites.

2 junior, 5 and 5 for seniors and masters?

There are 4 invites for each age group at the Pokemon TCG World Championship. However this says that 2 of the 4 Juniors moved to Seniors and 1 of the Seniors moved to Masters. Given the total number of invites 2-5-5.

Oh right! I couldn't figure out for the life of me the 2-5-5 Worlds 08 invites situation, players moving up divisions explains that. All looks pretty much as expected to me, reasonable, no complaints.

Seems like it's almost exactly the same as last year for Europe.

Hoped for more rating invites because we used lots of them in Europe even if the trips were expensive, and also hoped for more travel awards to Germany since we had about 300 players this year at Nationals.

But yeah, we'll have to live this and hope for our LD. ;)
It worked pretty well last season that way so that should be the reason they didn't change anything.

Thanks, I wondered about this, too.
