It feels that so many of the HGSS cards (compared to previous set cards) are made to be semi-decent only if the player has a DCE in their hand...

Both attacks would be so much better and more reasonable if they cost one energy less... Sigh.

Modified 2/10
limited 5/10

I GOT THIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRDDDDDDD AAAAGGAAIINN!

Anyway, this card has too much energy cost to do it for me, but I will play the Prime, which is awesome!

6/10 Third the third time in a row? lol!

Ehhh, still around the decent card era as it seems.

100 HP is great for a stage 1. The weakness to water kind of hurts, the resistance is wonderful, and the retreat cost is just heavy.

So, its first attack, for three energies, does 50 and resistance isn't applied. Now the energy cost is expensive, but you got DCE to help you here. Furthermore, an attack that doesn't apply resistance is pretty good. The second attack costs four energies, does 70, requires you to flip two coins, and does 70 times the number of heads. Well, this attack is quite expensive, but yet again, DCE helps here. The flippiness, though, is kind of risky.

Overall 4/10 in modified

Well, this card isn't too bad. It is fairly decent actually. Since we have DCE out right now, this Donphan has a fair boost. Furthermore, lightning resistance is great. The reason why the rating isn't so high sadly is because of decks like Kingdra and Gyarados, heavy retreat cost, and being flippy and risky.

Kinda good, definitely not great. I think this card would be way better if Double Spin had a guaranteed 70 + a coin flip 70. That would make the cost well worth it, and, imo, incredibly good.

Still, it won me two matches in the draft, strangely. Only bit of luck I had that day, haha.

4/10.

If someone burned all your Donphan Primes ... and your Donphan SW ... you would still probably be better off waiting to play pokemon until you could build a different deck rather than try to use this card.

Type = Good. Resistance = Good. HP = slightly above average. Everything else = bad.

3/10

it does a fair amount of damage but it the energy cost is almost worthless. A majority of HGSS require a DCE to be close to proficient. 3/10

Great Poke body that let's you reduce 20 damage when it gets attacked, 60 damage and 10 to all your bench for a single energy and ... oh wait i thought the only Donphan was the Prime oh :(
Well, this doesn't deserve too much, why you would play this when there's the Prime over there and it's FAR better ?

4/10 ._.

One of the things that makes this card so bad is how much Donphan Prime outshines it. 3 for 50, no resistance, 4 for a possible 140, and the ability to use DCE well are all good things about this card. But then you look at Donphan Prime who does 1 for 60 and automatically reduces 20 damage done to it are far superior to this Donphan. With Donphan Prime out, why would anyone bother to use this Donphan? The heavy Retreat Cost is especially bad. However, it does have the potential to hit for high damage, so I'm going to give it a 4/10.

Today's CotD is Donphan from GS...well, it's definitely not the Prime one. Statwise, 100 HP is nice for a Stage 1, x2 Weakness to :water: is meh, -20 Resistance to :lightning: is decent, and :colorless::colorless::colorless: to Retreat is pricey. Rock Hurl is pricey at :fighting::colorless::colorless: for 50 and ignoring Resistance, and Double Spin is unreliable at :fighting::fighting: :colorless::colorless: for 70x how many heads you can flip from 2 coins.

Modified - 1/10 (No point in using this when there's a much superior Prime version out there)
Limited - 6/10 (Main downside are those expensive attacks)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here)

The first attack is not enough damage output for 3 energy (AND you can't attack at all if you T2 rare cand/BTS)

Second attack is an epic fail waiting to happen. I probably wouldn't even give it to a league kid to play for fun as the card is frustrating overall.

If you're running a fighting deck and you want a RESISTANCE tech, I think there are just so many other ways to go.

2/10.

SO bad.

It seems all the primes have inferior counterparts, but this counterpart is far inferior compared to the other primes non-prime counterparts.

1/10 UnLimited; just awful.
1/10 Modified; just awful.
6.5/10 Limited; if you can play him, charge him up, and get flippy with his second attack, you may be able to set your opponent so far back that he can just win the game. It's a gamble, because if he kills your Donphan Awful then you've just wasted 3-4 turns of energy attachment, and you might as well scoop after putting all your eggs in the fail basket.
