Before I start with my report I'd like to comment the current format based on the Top16 in Masters:

1 Michal Bartosik (Machamp w/ Umbreon, Ditto, Smeragle)
2 Filipp Lausch (Sablelock w/ Dragonite, Promocroak, Honchkrow)
3 Marc Lutz (LuxChomp w/ Drifblim, Ambipom, Promocroak)
4 Marco Brandoa (LuxChomp w/ 2 Dragonite, Dialga)
5 Tobias Thesing (DialgaChomp w/ ToxiTank, Shuppet, Smeargle, Ambipom)
6 Jan Rodek (LuxChomp?)
7 Martin Janous (ChenLock w/ Dragonite)
8 Michael Pogodda (Gyarados/Regigigas)
9 Fabrizio Corrioni (Kingdra/Machamp)
10 Ruslan Hlovyak (LuxChomp?)
11 Tomas Just (DialgaChomp)
12 Julian Wong (LuxChomp w/ Dragonite, Blaziken, Chatot)
13 Gianmarco Morle (LuxChomp w/Dragonite, Ambipom, Blaziken, Dialga, Smeargle)
14 Petr Janous (ChenLock w/ Dragonite)
15 Stefan Weber (Sablelock)
16 Lorenzo Pieri (LuxChomp w/Dragonite, Ambipom, Blaziken, Dialga, Chatot G)

This is probably the worst format I ever played in this game. You can argue all day that they are different SP Variants like DialgaChomp, LuxChomp and Sablelock and how they each do totally different things to your opponent, but in the end they all use Garchomp C, DCE and the absolutely broken SP Engine (Cyrus + TGI's) for their succes. And no, you can't compare cards like Bebe, Rare Candy, BTS, etc because they can be used by any Deck whereas TGI's are limited to SP only (not that flexible unlike the Holon Engine and therefore bad). Other Decks that can 'keep up' with SP are Machamp Variants and if you get a lucky tie breaker you can even cut with Gyarados.

This ain't sour grapes, this is reality. I'm someone who's playing SP since Platinum was released, I won a lot with it but I really hate the format and am looking forward to RR-On (Or anything else that leaves us w/o the SP Engine). Until that I focus on YGO. Quite more fun, you know?

I didn't really playtest that much. I modified my national list and added a 2nd Bebe/2nd Looker for consistency.

Round 1 vs Gengar/Vileplume

She basically had no idea what her cards were doing, so despite her superior setup I 6-0'd her.

1-0

Round 2 vs Blastoise/Delcatty/Garchomp C

I underestimated this Deck and nearly lost due to that. He got a strong setup via Impersonate and multiple Sage's Training. He got 3 Blastoise PL out in no time and really "digged well", soon proceding to OHKO everything. Still, I won the prize exchange with Dragon Rush on his Delcatty.

2-0

Round 3 vs ChenLock

He Impersonated for Initiative and flipped 1 heads, looking through my unplayable hand choosing a random card. I topdecked a Communication T3 and got setup. He couldn't lock me and I sweeped easily with Luxray.

3-0

Round 4 vs LuxChomp

Despite his weak start he managed to put pressure on me early with Dragonite/Lux X/Warp/Zong. Both of us prevented our opponent's setup, but I got my Cyrus earlier (with additional help from Uxie X) und won quite a fight with the random Dragon Rush.

4-0

Round 5 vs DialgaChomp

To put it very simple: I played 3 Uxie for 3-5 cards and lasted until timeout with Ambipom/Lux X (grabbing 3 prizes), but never saw a Cyrus, Looker or anything else. Meh.

4-1

Round 6 vs Jumpluff

(I just want to mention that we got deckchecked before we started and everything went fine)

I mulliganed twice and was already at a huge disadvantage when he went first with Smeargle, using Portrait on my Collector, pretty much ready to beat me next turn. I played Collector and called with active Lucario. He played Communication and evolved 2 Hoppip to Jumpluff via Rare Candy, attached Energy, evolved Sunkern into Sunflora, dropped Uxie for X, doing over 9000 damage. I reduced my bench to 3 so he couldn't OHKO my Luxray X (I dragged Sunflora up) and did 30, begging for a Belt-less hand. He retreated Sunflora, attached Belt and went for a 120 Mass Attack. I went aggro, getting rid of it with multiple Bats/Dragon Rush, finally able to get the Lux X/retreat/Chomp X/turn Combo going. With his second Looker in a row he destroyed the chain, tho, leaving us with another prize exchange.

We ended at 2 prizes each, with time called on his turn with his Smeargle active. He passed, ready to get his last Jumpluff up to destroy me. I couldn't get Lux or Chomp back, so I had to use my last option: legal stalling. I checked his discard pile and figured that he probably didn't play (or at least no more then 1) Warp Point and locked his Smeargle up with Azelf. I shuffled my last supporter (Looker) away, just in case ha was playing Warp Point but had no chance to get it. He had the "I'm ganna lose no matter what" look on his face after he portraited into my supporterless hand. He passed and I proceeded to use lock up until his Smeargle was down.

5-1

Round 7 vs LuxChomp

I can't recall much from this game. I know he played 2 Dragonite (which earned my respect for the surprise effect), but he got his first Cyrus T3 and he had to sacrifice 2-3 prizes to Ambipom. I Dragon Rushed for the remaining prizes.

6-1

I obviously made cut in 4th seed and sson figured that I'll play twice against Chenlock, so I was up for a rough day 2.

Top16 vs Chenlock

Game 1: I donked him.
Game 2: He donked me.
Game 3: I openend with Uxie, Call, Uxie X, Bebe and Collector, quite a solid start but totally weak against Sableye. He collectored for Sableye/Blaziken/Garchomp (Crobat active) and Impersonated for Initiative: double heads. He chose Bebe and Collector and sprayed my Uxie X. I figured at this point that I'd probably lose if he were able to Jet Shoot/Dragon Rush + Bat me. I could've also called a 2nd time, but I know that every additional Impersonate hels him to advance even further leaving me behind to an extend where I'll be never able to keep up with him. I Zen Blade him, and he just Eart Quake me. Trade off went trough and I nabbed Cyrus, getting my Lux X active and proceeded to take 5 prizes with it.
He tried to lock me multiple times during the course of the game, but Uxie X + consistent list never let me down. I won fairly easily despite his 4 DCE.

7-1

Top8 vs Chenlock

Game 1: He locked me with 1 Initiative heads and 4 Sprays (no joke lol). After he got Blaze X I scooped to save time because he never alled me to topdeck a Energy card with Chatot G.
Game 2: He was able to lock (succesfully) 3 times in this game, and I had some very tough decisions to make due to the unbreakable lock. After I got setup (felt like T30) I managed to win a very, very close game.
Game 3: He locked me easily with Initiative and my unplayable hand + Chatot G. Time was called on his turn and I knew he had only 2 options left. If he luring flame my Uxie I can't retreat it and he wins. If he Mach Blow my active Ambipom I can revenge kill with Earthquake + Chomp X and will eventually draw the 4th prize before he does. He made the mistake and went for option 2 and at this point I felt relieved. He couldn't revenge kill me and I also got an Energy from my prizes. You gotta focus until the very end, dude, but this format sucks anyway.

8-1

Yup, even if I lose now I managed to keep my promise and became 3rd. Hell yes!

Top4 vs Sablelock

As always no pro/con, they are just two sides of the same card, in the end...

I find it funny how you rant on SP but you still play them.LOL

I agree that SP have an advantage, which is a huge understatement. It reminds me of when Slowking was popular during the WOTC days due to error(Both card and ruling). It was either play it or counter it.

Much like today with SP, its join them or hate em. The only difference was that Slowking was eventually banned, while SP seemingly became stronger with our rotation. Hopefully this changes or at least balances out with the release of B/W.

^I hope that as well.

Finally finished my report.
