First. Aww yeah. So I like basculin and I like this card. The art reminds me of the water pokes in HS Unleashed. The attack is ok ay for disruption and 70 hp for basic is good. Weakness is bad and retreat is good.
5/10 average

This fish is crap >.>
2 turns for an attack that's pretty meh. plus a flip for discard of energy?
Well, not all bad.

2/10
Sorry, but the carp is crap.
Not cuz of hp, i couldn't care less if it was at 40 hp :p

3rd!!!

Basculin, a 70 hp basic with a typical lightning weakness and one retreat. His first and only attack crunch does 30 for 2 water energy with the possibility of discarding a card attached to the opponent. For a Poké that doesn't evolve and has only one attack, that's pretty bad.

Modified: 2/10

Did they mistake Basculin for a Magikarp? It'd be an awesome Magikarp. As a stand alone Basic Water Pokemon? Not enough to bother. 70 HP used to be great for a Basic Pokemon, but now even twice Evolving Basic Pokemon like Tepig can hit that mark, and most decks can hit that hard turn after turn. It is still an okay score, since it makes it hard to OHKO Basculin. Lightning Weakness is going to be a problem, because it makes this a OHKO even for a poorly set-up Lightning-Type deck. No Resistance is disappointing but common, so it doesn't really hurt Basculin too bad. The single Energy Retreat Cost is good and easy to pay, but also desperately needed given the other stats.

Also desperately needed, but missing are an Ability or more attacks! Basculin gets just one, Crunch. Crunch is an okay attack in a supporting role, but it isn't like the energy removal effect is reliable: it still only happens on a successful coin toss. Paying :)water::water:) for 30 points of damage with this effect on a Basic that can't Evolve is somewhat fair... if this isn't all it does. Energy removal is almost always useful, but factor in it is usually a Special Energy that is most vital to remove and you might as well just run Lost Remover; works in any deck to boot, though does have some issues when you're running Trainer-lock strategies. Even with Feraligatr Prime to power this up in one hit, it just doesn't do enough: you remove an Energy, but most competitive decks will still be capable of dropping a replacement and going for the OHKO.

Ratings

Unlimited: 2/10 - Better than other formats due to Trainer support, like Focus Band and Scoop Up.

Modified (MD-On): 1/10 - A format with crazy low Energy costs: why bother?

Modified (HGSS-On): 1.5/10 - Picking of a Double Colorless Energy is useful, but it is too unreliable so you're giving up a Prize to maybe do it.

Limited: 5.5/10 - A must if you're running a mostly or all Water deck, but it should be skipped otherwise; thus it gets an average score.

Summary

A Basic Pokemon that does the job of a Trainer, but unreliably and will cost you a Prize unless you have an entire control deck behind it, and there are better Actives for such decks.

10/10.
30 damage. For TWO energy. Man, this thing is a beast. AND you can discard an energy. With Feraligatr prime, you can consistently hit for THIRTY WHOLE DAMAGE, AND possibly discard ONE WHOLE ENERGY! Can someone say BDIF?

Today's CotD is Basculin from BW...well, not much to say about it honestly. Statwise 70 HP is decent for a Basic, x2 Weakness to :lightning: sucks, no Resistance is common, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Crunch is eh, 30 for :water::water: is a bit overpriced, but tries to compensate by giving you a 50/50 chance of discarding an Energy off the Defending as well.

Modified - 2/10 (I can't think of any reason to run this in :water: decks, weak and ineffective with just 1 mediocre attack)
Limited - 7/10 (Solid option for :water: decks needing Pokemon, bad for everything else)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here at all)

Okay, Lets get started :thumb:

I've seen other comments above erm I agree with the snorlax dude :)
Looks like the magiikarp :D
Down to business!

HP: 1.0/2.5 :thumb:
Atk: 0.9/2.5
Retreat 1.4/2.5
Weakness 0.3/1.2
Resistance 0.1/1.3

Overall 3.7/10

:water::water: For a 30 damage?
Plus discard energy

Not worth played like always.
:nonono:
Number eight ?

I have a few problems with this card,
1)There are no Abilities, and the only attack eats away at two NRGs while doing little damage to your opponent.
2) 70HP is terrible, especially since it doesn't evolve.
3) It's limited uses in any deck.
AND
4) the always inconvenient Retreat cost of :colorless:

My Rating: 3/10
