First!
It could have potential for a beginner deck, combine this with Heatran lv X and you could have consistent heavy damage. Other than that, Gyarados wrecks it and it's too slow. In modified I give it a
5.5/10, It's nothing more than a beginner deck type card

Second! =D
Awesome card, just kicks Charizard into the a s s ;P
jk
I don't want to pull this card out of my booster..... :(
5/10

tad slow, though you can defiently pump on the fire energy with Ninetails, but it has a retreat of 3, which, while predictable, is still bad.

5/10 for being made of Clay.

Not that great in Modified, but given that it's one of two evolved Fire-types in Undaunted(other being Flareon), and that seemingly half of the set is Fire-weak, it's pretty good in Limited.
4.5/10

Ok so today’s card is the rememberable but always forgot Macargo! This Pokémon never has been given a shot at the limelight always being outclassed by its fellow fire Pokémon Charizard, Infernape, Blaziken and even Camerupt! Never the less this cute lava Pokémon (even though it’s more like a lava snail) might surprise you! So onto the review :)

100 HP: For a stage 1 this HP is round about fair. It allows it to survive most attacks and dish out some damage.

Fire Type + X2 Water Weakness: This is what hurts it, fire types are notorious for their X2 Water weakness which in itself means they better be pretty good in order to consider using them (there is normally always a good water deck within the metergame). No Resistance hurts to; I mean they could have at least have it -20 to Grass!

Retreat Cost: 3 Colourless is a mammoth retreat cost for a Pokémon with only 100HP. Once he’s out its more than likely he can stay out, unless you’re packing Wrap Point etc.

Searing Flame: 1 Fire 1 Colourless: Does 20 damage and Burns the defending Pokémon. Standard attack but in my opinion overpriced. This would have been Acceptable at 1 Fire or to make it more unique 0 cost. There are just better attacks out there.

Lava Flow: 2 Fire 1 Colourless: Does 60+ 20 for each fire energy you discard. This attack is a little more interesting as you can potentially do massive damage. 60 for 3 energy is a bit sluggish in the current environment, if it was 2 then it would be balanced in my opinion (however if you want to make the most out of his attack you will want at least 4 energy on him). So again an attack that just doesn’t cut it.

Deck Synergy: This little critter does have some support options. pairing it with Heatran LV X as well as Ninetales helps with energy acceleration. Heatran technically brings you back 2 of the fire energy that you would discard for Macargo. Moreover its poke body allows all burn flips to be tails (guarantying another 20 damage). Ninetales however lets you discard F and draw 3 improving speed.

Overall: I would love to say this card is good, but compared to the other Fire Pokémon options it just does not cut it! sub - par attacks and a whopping retreat cost condemn this Pokémon to the lost zone! Furthermore with a metergame filled with speed, this flaming slug is just too slow. Better options such as Charizard and Infernape win the competition for deck space. Its disappointing as well, considering his fellow Slugma wasn’t all that bad. his poke power active volcano allows you to ditch the top card of your deck and if its F you can attach it to Slugma. However this wasent enough and all I can say is better luck next time Magcargo :(

Modified: 3.5/10 (better Pokémon, use this at your own risk)
Unlimited: 0.1/10 (you just don’t go there with this card)
Limited: 6.4/10 (if you pull it with Slugma go for it, it will kill stuff, but this is the only time it will be useful)

Well, I've actually faced a pretty fierce Magcargo deck run by Bondi. Maybe that is why I think this is a great card mostly hurt by the resurgence of Gyarados decks and not much else.

Magcargo is a Fire Type, but that doesn't actually matter much. Being a Stage 1 is normally bad, but it has a useful Basic (Slugma) that can discard the top card from your deck, and if it is a :fire: Energy, you get to attach it to Slugma. Since swarming Basic Pokemon is relatively easy, this really speeds the decks set-up, even if you went second and use Broken Time Space to Evolve right after using the Poke-Power.

100 HP is a good, solid amount for a Stage 1. More would be nice, but a bit out of place. Unfortunately, I can already tell you what sabotages the deck I've seen utilize this card: the Water Weakness. I faced Magcargo when Gyarados and Rain Dance were still struggling. Granted, the person I faced had moved on already by the time those two decks experienced a tidal surge, so maybe a solution exists and I just don't know it. The lack of Resistance is annoying but as usual isn't a big deal, and what may surprise people is that the three Energy Retreat Cost isn't an issue either. This comes in part from the Energy acceleration, in part from the fact this is clearly a card meant to go down swinging, and in part due to a deck partner that makes you run a lot of changing out cards, anyway.

Searing Flame doesn't get used much. As in, almost never. Lava Flow is there. 60 a turn is lame, but you have just enough Energy acceleration that, even without additional combos, you should be able to attach and discard an Energy for a turn or two to do 80 each of those hits, then right before you'd be KO'd blow it all for a big hit.

That isn't enough for the modern Modified format, is it? Here's where the rest of the deck comes in. First things first, a deck that needs to run a lot of Fire Energy begs for Ninetales with Roast Reveal. Two of them on the Bench and you'll quickly set-up everything else and also important, help you filter out most non-Fire Energy cards. The final Pokemon piece of the puzzle is Heatran Lv.X so that you can freely discard two Fire Energy each turn and still build energy. 100 damage a turn while still building up another Pokemon on the bench is pretty handy. Modern versions of the deck could toy with Expert Belt/Seeker to try some Prize denial after firing off Magcargo's Fire Energy, but even 120 HP doesn't last long in this format. Oh, and if you're wondering, Heatran Lv.X necessitates the deck run a lot of cards to Bench it, hence why I wasn't worried about retreating Magcargo.

Ugh, it's been a long day for me. This review is pretty poor, but I needed to state the good this card has going for it. Hopefully I can clean it up before it gets locked.

Ratings

Modified: 7/10 - Only this low because of a problem Weakness.

Limited: 8/10 - Only drawback here is you have to dedicate your deck to Fire Energy, and you need to be careful what Slugma discards from your deck.

As of right now this card is so-so, but with the release of Enbuoh in black and white with with his fire rain dance poke-power, this deck may see a little more play. Also the weakness to gyarados is kind of a pain, but it should do pretty well when gyarados is rotated.
Now 4.5/10
Later 9/10

Running a bit late again...amazing how raiding in WoW eats up time...

Anyways, here we have Magcargo from UD, another wasted/filler rare. Statwise 100 HP is nice for a Stage 1, x2 Weakness to :water: is meh, no Resistance is common, and :colorless::colorless::colorless: to Retreat is pricey. Searing Flame is overpriced at :fire::colorless: for a mere 20 and Burn, while Lava Flow isn't much better at :fire::fire::colorless: for 60+ 20 more for each :fire: you toss off Magcargo. So yeah...nothing really warrants this guy's use.

Modified - 1/10 (Another vanilla card with nothing to distinguish himself from the better options)
Limited - 8/10 (Good overall stats here, nice pick if you're running :fire:)
Unlimited - 1/10 (See above rating, and add in ER/SER draining him of Energy and GoW to pick him off)
