First!!!!!!!!

This card is good because you get to skip a stage of evolution and go right to stage 2. I like the old candy better though because it allowed us to go straight to stage 1 right when we play a basic on the bench.

6/10 because the old card is better than this one.

This looks like an opportunity to complain about game balance!

Think about it carefully; when you create a "crutch" card like Rare Candy, you force a design decision. If Stage 2 Pokemon are already considered "balanced", odds are you just "broke" them. Effects not meant to be in play prior to turn three hit turn two (first turn with the pre-errata version). Rare Candy only "helps" when Stage 2 Pokemon are under powered, but then you have to run Rare Candy, and Stage 1 Pokemon that Evolve become filler.

It is really lose-lose, and why I don't care to see Rare Candy remain. With the current power level, I'd almost consider doing something a bit "odd" and re-releasing Pokemon Breeder... but with the pre-errata Rare Candy text! Of course, that still might be too potent; I remember how Pidgeot from FireRed/LeafGreen was a staple back in the day because you could focus on getting it out and often break even for your effort(s) right away, if not by the next turn. Then the rest of the game, as long as Pidgeot survived (and back then it wasn't an easy OHKO, unlike it would be today).

Anyway, giving up a Supporter might be worth the old effect, but enough playing "Create-A-Card".

Outside of 'special' mechanics like SP, certain Pokemon have to have 3 stages of evolution. That's just the way they were made.

In the TCG, any Pokemon that took 3 turns to get out just wouldn't work, so Rare Candy is needed if those things are ever going to see play in a balanced environment. The only alternative would be to make unevolving Basics and Stage 1s so weak that they would effectively be shut out of the TCG themselves.

Rare Candy has probably made more decks and cards playable than anything else in the history of the TCG. Yeah, this version is a bit nerfed, but not so bad that you won't all be running it your Hydreigon and Garchomp decks for Autumn BRs.

10/10

With the current format this card isn't seeing much play because basics are faster and don't require card space to set up along side with the old card supports like Celebi and Smeargle. I believe with the rotation on the horizon this card will see much more play in many decks. We will see convergence with basics and stage evolution cards.

Game mechanic wise it is a card that keeps this game balanced between basics and evolutions.

Current Meta: 07/10

Future Meta: 10/10

Game Mechanic: 10/10

Overall: 9/10

If you are playing stage twos, you need this card.

BW-on is announced!!! I never say this but... 11/10 just because I'm so glad to see this card become playable again (and for the rotation in general.)

Don't be so gloomy. This is the perfect CotD. Had it been CotD yesterday and it would be trash, but today it is GOOD!

11/10! 11/10! 11/10! (I'll shut up now)

I've always used Rare Candies to skip to Stage 2 Pokemon anyway. So it doesn't bother me much.

Well, least only need a bit of catchup in this post...so first, Kyogre EX from DE...well he illustrates why some EXs are bad I guess. Despite the huge 170 HP still, his attacks are just poor compared to the other offerings: Smash Turn is overpriced for a mere 30 and a somewhat meh switch effect, and while Dual Splash is ok for 50 to 2 of your opponent's Pokemon, considering he's an EX that needs to be bumped up some as Hydreigon can almost equal that as well as dealing direct damage. Modified 1/10, Limited 9/10, Unlimited 1/10.

And for this card, Rare Candy. Still pretty much a staple if you play Stage 2 decks, which hopefully will see a comeback in the BW-On format. Just wish they'd un-nerf the ruling to it...but for now, in this format, probably a 6/10 or so, normally it'd be higher, but none of the top decks are using it or Stage 2s, meaning this gets to hang around till a more friendly Stage 2 format comes out. Limited 10/10, may as well take it if you have any Stage 2s (otherwise don't), Unlimited 2/10 probably as it's just basically Pokemon Breeder 2.0 now, which isn't used.
