How many of the APAC players this past year got 20-25+ CPs? Looks like about 34 players with 26+ CPs, and 50 total with 20+ through all age groups. In the Juniors, it would have been between 10 and 13 players. In Seniors, 11-17. In Masters, 13-20. It's a bit of an increase, but not much. You guys got, what, 10 Ratings Invites per age group last year? Accept the increase and move on.

For reference, the NA region would have gotten 70-82 Qualifiers in the Juniors, 69-85 in the Seniors, and 50-74 in the Masters. It's gonna be an increase this year for everybody, and they'll probably tweak it again for next year.

I don't get me wrong, I'm not phased by it! It just seems like a LOT. It opens up approx twice the opportunities compared to last year for the zone.

It was more of an observation based on previous years invite structures and keeping things consistent.

400 CP is equivalent to 40 from last season. That's not unreasonably high, at all.

i highly doubt that many europeans will make it because most countries doesnt have a lot events. hopefully tpci will change the amount of the CP you need for an invite (300-350 would be fine for europe)

i am wondering why you can get 500 cp at nationals. I mean you only need 400 CP for an invite.

I have to say that I am quite disappointed with the new system.

It does not look like the new system fixes any of the problems I described here: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=166708

BRs can max up to 90 out of the 400 points needed. This means BRs are still essential to the season and the competitive players are going to have to play all of them to give themselves the best chance. So many people on various threads here on pokegym made it known that they did not want BRs to have CPs or to have far fewer CPs. There were several complaints about how long the competitive season was, and it is more than twice as long as 2004-2011. Lowering the BFL from 8 to 6 for BRs was not nearly a big enough change to fix these problems. You still need to go to as many BRs as you can.

The set cap will make the very very highest players perhaps able to skip Spring BRs, but that won't be true for the much larger group of players 'in the chase' still at the end of the season.

Good things from the overall new structure:

If the new '40 CP' needed leads to more worlds invites, I think that is needed given how much the game has grown the past 3-4 years. I think this is the best thing about the changes.

Having more distribution of points at BRs is good, but I think probably negligible overall. Those 5th-16th points aren't going to add much for competitive players. Everyone will feel the need to aim for 6 top 4s or better.

No top cut for BRs makes tournaments a little shorter, but given that players will usually have to travel 1-2 hours or more to attend most BRs, this is barely a dent to shortening the season compared to cutting BR CPs completely. (which again was effectively the system 2008-2011)

The small changes to BFLs are good but not super significant in terms of shortening the season. Your odds are still much better the more events you go too, even if you lessen the BFLs a bit.

The hard cap vs top x decision has pros and cons. But more invites I think is a positive.

So lots of good small changes, but they didn't fix the BR/length of season problem, when we thought there was a good chance of that after the no top cut announcement. I appreciate all the effort put into this new system, as the huge number of changes shows they put a lot of thought into this, but I'm still disappointed one of the biggest issues wasn't addressed. Many more people were complaining about length of season than say 'hard cap' vs 'top 40'.
