I read this really good book called 2012, and this obviously won't happen, but it was about how this one writer who had claimed he had encounters with another life form not of this planet was like, sleep-writing, basically writing a novel without being able to stop. Like this urge just took over him. Except, the novel was actually the actual events of his same family in the alternate dimension, an alternate reality, where it was accepted that all houses and cars are black, white, or grey, and that there were two moons, but still Earth. The twist was that there was a third dimension, wit a type of being on it that was reptilian and used human's souls for energy. They raided the alternate universe of their souls, and on that date in 2012, these giant Telescope-like things erupt and appear from underground across this ring of like, world-known landmarks that are apparently all approximately across the same line across the planet, including the pyramids in Egypt. they are machines planted there by the reptilian race the last time that they got to earth. They get to earth at that date in 2012 because the two different dimensions/universes overlap. The best example is how in the real world they could see the footprints on the grass of the alternate dimension's people as the writer was typing about what was happening. The universes overlap to the point where there are 'warp points' (ha... pokemon reference) where the barrier is so weak you can break through to the other dimension. Won't spoil the ending but yeah, a really interesting take on the 2012 apocalypse, and apparently the whole 'bunch of world-known monument/statue/structure/landmark along the general same line across the earth' thing is true
