The new format will take some getting used to, for sure. A breakdown of 'popular' cards leaving:
HGSS:
Ninetales: I'm kinda sad, just because I was so happy to actually play Ninetales. Hopefully we get a Basic or Stage 1 draw engine soon.
Cleffa: The baby rage may have passed, but the hand refresh shall be missed...
Copycat: I personally will miss this card a lot. T.T It's one of my favorite draw Supporters, but it might come back to the pool again.
Fisherman: Emboar will miss this, but considering how much he's not played now it doesn't hurt too bad.
Pokemon Collector: I have mixed feelings about this. Anything to weaken Big Basics I'm all for, but once we go BW-on we will only have Cilan for a search Supporter.
Professor Oak's New Theory: The shuffle draw seems to all be going away.... Considering how many top decks run at least three of these they will be missed.
Typhlosion Prime: Reshiram says bye bye to its more usable partner. Oh well, looks like Zekrom's laughing now.
Alph Lithograph: Durant, oh, Durant, say goodbye to one of your two saving graces. Between this and Rotom going away, looks like the bugs are on the run.
Unleashed:
Shaymin: A wonderful one-of tech, players are going to have to think more carefully about where they place their energy now. (Or run Energy Switch, haha.)
Dual Ball: Honestly, the use of this card was falling anyway due to the other balls we have now.
Judge: Again with the killing of the shuffle draw. N may be nice, but there's nothing like a first turn Judge to troll your opponent.
Kingdra Prime: Hmm, no more damage counter placing. I feel like he could have been better utilized with some of the newer cards (Like Groudon EX), but he didn't really see the light of play this set of BR's.
Undaunted:
Smeargle: With Skyarrow Bridge, more Smeargles were starting to pop up, but I guess they've outlived their usefulness. Considering the lack of supporter diversity in BW-on, it would have been nice to have access to his power, but it's understandable why they're making a clean cut.
Rotom: The other nail in Durant's coffin. Looks like we're going back to the times when your prizes were unknowable and untouchable.
Vileplume: Big Basics kind of killed Vileplume a while back, which is sad. Now the onlt Trainer Lock we'll have is Gothitelle, which has to be active AND is weak to Mewtwo. One might be manageable, but both is certain death.
Flower Shop Lady: With this going away, the only Pokemon recovery (that's not an attack) from the discard is Super Rod. Not dissing Super Rod, but I do hope we get another recovery card soon.
Sage's Training: Discard decks will have to make do with Juniper now.
Special Dark/Special Metal: Honestly, these were replaced by Dark Claw and Eviolite. I'm excited to see Tools becoming a big deal now, it'll be interesting to see how the game reacts.
Triumphant:
I felt like there were a lot of cards in this set that were almost playable, and I'm sad so many never got what they needed to be competitive.
Junk Arm: One of the most important cards rotating, in my opinion. Players will have to really think about when to play their Items, since the ways of getting them back will only be attacks. No more dumping something with Juniper for retrieval later.
Twins/Black Belt: I loved this mechanic of only being able to play cards when you were behind, so I really hope they bring it back.
Celebi Prime: One of the easiest forms of energy acceleration is going away. Honestly, with Skyarrow Bridge she was a bit overpowered, and I'm happy to see Mewtwo limited.
Mew Prime: Another double-edged sword. It seems they're getting away from the Lost Zone now, but Mew had a lot of fun quirks you could exploit.
TL;DR: All our Support has been kicked out, we're going to have to learn to do without.
