Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2014 Season Updates and Event Dates!!!!!

For a League Challenge, need a printer, laptop, and TOM. And a judge since the TO cannot judge (unless that gets changed).

Who says a TO can't judge?

Pokemon has stated that they want TO's to have separate judges for large events, especially premiere events, but it is not a hard and fast rule for all events.
If someone is running an 8 player tournament, they have no need of an extra judge, as long as they're qualified themselves.

As a more casual player (who is Master age) I really can't see the new entry fee thing helping the game.
Since League is usually practice for upcoming tournaments, that means I might start having to face rather nasty decks.
You say yourself that you are "a more casual player." Does this mean you don't/haven't attend large events? The fee only affects the higher level tournaments. League play isn't affected.

Again, league play really isn't affected. How does a fee for higher-level events make those players who aren't playing at your league now come out and play at league to practice for upcoming tournaments? Are you referring to LCs? If they aren't practicing at your league now, they aren't going to show up unless it is an LC day.

EricDent, you are too focused on predicting bad experiences that you are neglecting the good experiences that always come with growth at league. An increase of players, even if they bring "rather nasty decks," means a larger trading pool, a more experienced crowd for players who want to get better to test their decks against, a chance to expand your social circle and link up with people who may be able to provide rides to larger events. For paid events, the prizes are (said to) go deeper into the rankings so those players who may be "shafted" because of the small proportion of rewarded players will now have a better chance of winning prizes.

Yes I don't usually play in tournaments, unless they are pre-releases.

However with the announcement of DC as the Worlds location, I was kinda intersted in possibly trying for it.

I own a car, so transportation isn't an issue.
I have a job that pays OK, so no problem there.

It just seems like it would turn out bad.

Though I must admit at league it seems that the older players seem to avoid me.
With the exception of maybe 1-2 Masters.
I seem to be a magnet for the younger players for some odd reason.

Anyhow I will see how the next few months go before deciding.
I do enjoy the game, I just think they are trying to do some rather bad ideas toward the older players.

I am very interested in how those league challenge things will substitute Battle Roads.
Hopefully we get more info on those.

So then us masters are paying for the increased prized pool in the juniors and seniors division too? How is that fair??

Ugh, I was kinda hoping the increased prizes for Masters would be something better than playing booster pack lottery, but I guess it's better than nothing. You could probably sell each pack for $2-$3.
A $20 fee is pretty hefty, I could see some decreased attendance.

I second the latter part of you post. This too is making me question if I still wanna go even though I requested off. :/

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Yes, Juniors and Seniors get more cards that last year, but the travel awards and travel stipends for 1-4th place are no longer included. I'm pretty sure if you do the math, your $20 goes all the way towards an increase in the Masters prize pool - by something like 300%.

I for one don't care about booster packs as prize support. I mean, it's nice to get a few packs but six boxes is pretty excessive when you already have all the cards to make a winning deck.

Because you aren't. Those prizes are near identical to the past.

but all in all, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? if wanna play, now I hafta pay, rite? rite! so its whatevs really. ill see how I do this season.

You guys do realize you can sell a case of booster boxes for a pretty good sum of cash right?

I'm not disappointed by the prizes all that much due to that, but I admit I wish 1st place still got at very least a travel stipend, and I wish everyone got a booster pack or 2 for their entry fee.

See that last part in your post is exactly what I was thinking. That's what they should besides a stinking promo card that is actually a reprint is a set card with a promo stamp on it.

If you win a State or a Regional, you're probably going to be in the Top 100 CP in the US after Spring Regionals...

Yeah, probably. It's just nice to have something for certain when you actually win; A lot of the rewards this year feel like they come at the end of the season, rather than right when you win, which takes a little excitement out of the event you win itself. A minor gripe for sure, as I wouldn't EVER complain about a booster case, but still.
