The last ep of Johto aired in 2002, so Misty has officially been gone for 20 years. Hard to believe there was once a time people thought Misty couldn't leave the anime, or that the show wouldn't be successful without her, or that all the female companions who came after like May, etc. wouldn't become popular characters.
Misty is only in roughly 20% of the animes total episodes now, and millions of kids have grown up watching the show from 2003 onward since she's been gone.
How time flies. I feel sorry for Misty fans who wasted decades of their lives (in vain), believing Misty would return to the main cast someday and she never did besides brief cameos.
