Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

3ds

Something funny happened to me today. A friend of mine pulls out his 3DS and starts gaming to some SF4. I felt something very odd... that is a lack of care. First off, I already have 2 copies of SF4 (normal and super versions). If that is currently the best 3DS game, I'll pass. I am usually a huge nintendo fanboy, but I have not had the inclination to even bother touching a 3DS as of yet. It just doesn't interest me. The $250 price tag makes that a big issue. I can't see myself paying anything above $200 for the 3DS. It just isn't worth its asking price IMO. Moreover, it isn't worth much as of right now regardless of the asking price. The preloaded games, while they look mildly fun, are nothing compared to some games that I can download onto my DSi (or just buy online) for around $10. I just got Magicka and I feel I'll have more fun on that for $10 than any of the preloaded games (for $250). The console in general is just not appealing. I don't care about 3D anything, and I really don't watch movies... so watching 3D movies on it isn't a selling point. With the internet thing, why use a bike when you have a car? My computer is so much faster on the internet than the 3DS will ever be, and my smart phone is a sufficient web browser while on the go. I already have a pretty high-powered camera, and, because I don't have any 3D tech, I can barely use the 3D camera. The only thing that I am interested in is the new games and the improved hardware. There are no worthwhile games (yet), and the hardware is only useful if the games use it well. Until I see a reason to get the 3DS, my money will be invested elsewhere. Does anyone else feel this way?

I'm going to wait until the release an obvious 2nd version at a lesser cost and with a longer battery life. Hopefully by then the library of games will have expanded to something interesting besides Street Fighter, which I could play on a big screen anyway.

Sums up my thoughts for the most part, 3d isn't a huge selling point for me either; heck, I barely notice any 3d effects in most movies released in 3d in theaters as it is. But yeah, all depends, some people like 3d, and this is a rather innovative approach to gaming considering the DS lacks a good touch screen comparable to, say, an ipod touch or something...mmm, wonder how long till the ipod is out in 3d...

That and I read the battery life is supposed to be horrid, which is always a turn off for on-the-go gaming. And while the 3ds should eventually get some good titles later in the year, I think not having a flagship one on release (like a Mario game or Zelda even) isn't doing them any favors, especially if SF4 is supposedly the best, not to mention SF4's been out for a while now on most other consoles...

Still looking for a Best Buy to try it at, I know I'll want one eventually just because unless it looks crappy or something, but I'm definitely waiting on a price drop.

Why on earth does the target audience mean the quality of the hardware/software should be less? I LOVE nintedo games, but I wish they wouldn't be so darn cheap. They did get left behind. Maybe not in terms of gimmicky (yet cool) ideas, but certainly in production values.

er... what? Nintendo, poor production values?

Have you PLAYED any Nintendo-developed Wii titles?

Yes, I have. While the game play is usually great, Nintendo has a sad tendency to dumb everything down, to the point that it's too easy to be any fun. Not to mention, the graphics are barely passable, and the music usually sounds like it was made on the same synth that they were using 15 years ago. Don't get me wrong, the game play is usually amazingly solid. However, they often are severely lacking in other areas.

He left out the part where Nintendo is an evil and immoral company for wanting to make a profit on all this, too.

All games are too danged easy nowadays. We're too good. Even Mario Galaxy 2 which is actually well-known for stepping up its difficulty didn't really faze me at all. So what?

The graphics are phenomenal when you consider the hardware they're on. I hate to hammer in the same example but MG2 is leaps and bounds above "barely passable". The capability is there. Maybe you're thinking of all the lazy developers NOT named "Nintendo" who don't even come close to learning/using the hardware correctly?

last thing I'll say on this topic is music is entirely subjective. The other day I was listening to a bunch of older Final Fantasy tunes and it struck me that almost none of the music since 10 has had that same whimsical flair or energy that the older tunes had. It seems like the industry is all moving toward this epic/orchestrated feel to background music or something... it's good background music I guess but quality music should be memorable somehow, and TBH even though you bashed Nintendo's music, it sounds like it did its job if it stuck out to you.

Is there a program where I can convert my music files onto a 3DS, so I can listen to them on my 3DS?

Never mind, I found out that you can import any music format onto the 3DS.

Well I tried out a 3DS at a Best Buy finally the other day...eh. It's nice when it's not giving you eye pains (particularly at the highest levels, though it is nice just a little bump on the toggle will give a somewhat appreciable 3d effect). Didn't care for the demo, never liked that flying game in Wii Sports Resort, stupid timer...sans timer it would be great though.

So yeah...I'm definitely waiting till it drops to sub-$200 prices, which won't happen for several years if it proves popular somehow, or it flops and they start slashing prices to move them (which likely won't happen).

Sadly that's not true. Nearly all of my 500+ songs are in ATRAC3 format and that can't be played on the 3DS. :frown: But I still have all of the CDs (since I actually buy my music) so I just spent about 4 hours and re-ripped them all to MP3, and now they all work fine on my 3DS.

Another question that I have is there a way I can import my pictures from my computer onto the 3DS? If so, where do I put the pictures?

Yes there is. But they have to be in either JPG or MPO. The JPGs have to be named HNI_0001.jpg (with any 4 numbers at the end) and the MPOs named DSCF0001.mpo (with any 4 numbers at the end). They also have to be 640x480 resolution or smaller, though some people can get larger ones somehow. And the folder tree they go in is root > DCIM > 100NIN03.

I'll say this. Nintendo makes the best gaming systems. Look at Sony's last PS3 update. All it did was allow the PS3 controler to turn off after a set time unused. The Wii did this out of the box and how long was the PS3 around. Sure I know about the hidden patchs to system files but Nintendo has the market locked down.

Sony made a super computer no one could afford and Microsoft rushed the release of their system which had bugs and other errors and poor hardware. Nintendo is the only one doing it right.

Sure 250 for the system is a lot of money and nintendo is making money off it but its not a bad thing. Kids under 7 can't play it, kids over 7 can't use 3d for too long and adults are not suppose to play it for more then 30 minutes at a time so in all, Nintendo will be losing money due to eye damage in kids and parent don't want to risk that. But lets face it I'll rather pay 250 for the 3DS then Sony's PSP Touch which is at 750 bucks. Now there's the story.

your own fault for using a Sony proprietary and obsolescent format! :3

I'm kinda sick of all the PS3 updates it seems...least with Nintendo they have something major with it instead of "oh, you can't play this game or log into X function without an update".

Also, PSP Touch at $750? Where'd that price come from lol...I can't see anyone touching it for that.

That update was mainly only to try and stop all of the recent hacking and modding that people were doing the week before. The controller part was just something they threw in.

I prefer the quality of ATRAC3 files. But I'm not really complaining, I was just pointing out a fact.

Thats why I put in I knew about the hidden patches for files.

So I collected all of the puzzle pieces (Samus) and I heard there's a way to get a new puzzle panel. Does anybody know how to get a new puzzle panel?

I believe you have to street pass with somebody who has a different one - but i have yet to meet anybody else who has one.
