Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

3rd Place at Mountain West Regionals

I'll start by apologizing for not writing a state report earlier this year.

My name is Jared(Ampharos7) and I won the Colorado state championship but I screwed
up the deck report and it didn't go on Pokegym.

But anyway, me and the rest of the Hot Tie Society decided to invade Utah and try to win the
West Mountain Regional Championship. I went with some of my friends and we did a ton of playtesting against each other and all of the other decks that we thought would show up saturday and have to face.
After a bunch of playtesting, I changed my deck a little and we headed out to Utah. I brought Family Guy
and Dodgeball, but the DVD Player wasn't in the van so we ended up talking and telling some jokes
to pass the time.

After we arrived, the Hot Tie Society was ready to win. I fully completed my deck, watched some
Family Guy until I fell asleep and was ready to win tomorrow. Here's my sweet deck.

Pokemon 20

4 Seedot
2 Nuzleaf
3 Shiftry ex
1 Shiftry

3 Shuppet
3 Banette ex

2 Slugma
2 Magcargo

Trainers 26

4 Holon Tranceiver
4 Pokemon Reversal
3 Phoebe Stadium
3 Rare Candy
1 Switch

3 Holon Adventurer
2 Copycat
2 Holon Mentor
2 Professor Elm's Training Method
1 Holon Farmer
1 Holon Scientist

Energy 14

4 Darkness
4 Psychic
4 Rainbow
2 Boost

The deck may look a little weird, but it's amazing if used right and you'll learn that as you read my
regional championship report. Anyway, here's the matches:

Round 1 VS Thomas with Swampert/Crawdaunt ex

Ok, when I started this match and saw he had 3 Mudkips on the bench, I figured he was running
Swampert ex/Delcatty, but I was wrong. I went first and had an excellent hand with a Seedot and
Slugma with a second turn Shiftry ex and Magcargo. I knocked out 2 Mudkips and he finally rare candied his third one into a fighting swampert. This worried me a little, but I was able to hit it once before he
OHKOed Shiftry Ex with it. I had another Shiftry Ex out and finished it off. After that I pretty much
won. He tried to build up a Corphish, but I reverseled it out and killed it. I then learned his other 3
fighting swamperts were in his last 4 prizes and I won after another quick knockout.

1-0

Round 2 VS A different Thomas with Gator/Queen

I knew this match would be a little harder, but I got a good hand and was hoping to go first,
unfortunately, I went second. I started with 2 Seedots and he started with a lone Totodile.
He bit me for 10 and passed. I then drew and attached an energy and used Transceiver to get a
Mentor for 2 Slugmas and a Shuppet with a Magcargo, Banette Ex and a Holon's Adventurer in my
hand for next turn. I then used Drawup Power to get another Darkness Energy and ended my turn.
He then Rare Candied into Feraligator and attached to use Drag off on my benched Seedot for the
KO. I then got lucky and drew a Rare Candy, so I evolved into Magcargo and Banette ex, smooth
overed for Shiftry Ex, and got a bunch of stuff out. I hit his Gator for 50 and passed. He put a Nidoran
Female and a Holon Castform on the bench and attached to hit me with Gator. I now knew I won because he had nothing after I killed gator. I attached to my Banette ex and Target attacked for the knockout.
He then brought up his Holon Castform and attached to Delta Draw for one. I reversaled out his
Nidoran and Knocked it out. He put another Nidoran on the bench, retreated his Holon Castform and
Rare Candied into Nidoqueen. He then used invatation, attached a metal, retreated and brought Nidoqueen active and passed. I then attached a third Darkness and knocked it out and that was basically
the game after that.

2-0

We had a lunch break after this and I got some KFC to eat. Unfortunately, I had like 2 minutes to
eat and I ended up having to wait between rounds to finish it. Oh yeah one other thing, I'm sorry I'm not fully describing the matches 100%, but it's hard to remember what I smooth overed for and discarded
every turn with my supporters. I remembering it the best I can 5 days after the tournament, so don't
think I forget the basics of my deck and the game.

Round 3 Vs Tyler with SallyNite

This was a very quick match as I got a GOD start and he couldn't draw a trainer to save his life. He \
was stalling with basics as I got a turn 2 Shiftry ex and Banette ex with a Copycat for 8 new cards
right after. He eventually evolved a couple of things on the bench, (I believe a Salamence Ex Deoxys)
but I reversaled one thing and killed it and then I reversaled the Salamence ex and hit for 90. It was able to attack me once, but I finished it off and that was basically the game. We played a fun match and I
got a Slugma start with no energy or anything and got beat Miserablely, but luckily for me it was a
fun match, Whew!

3-0

Halfway through and I'm still undefeated in my record and reversal flips. Yeah!
If any of you care, my reversal streak leading up to now is 19. 15 at states, 100% and 4 at Regionals

Round 4 Vs Michael with Flytech

Even though Mike's an amazing player and I barely beat him in the finals at States this year,(Colorado)
I was glad to face because I knew his deck and thought I had the advantage. Little did I know, Mike
changed it just for me and was in for the toughest battle of the day. I got another amazing start with
a second turn Shiftry Ex and Magcargo, but Mike got a nice hand as well and was ready to try to tear me
up with a new trick. I got a couple of quick prizes, but Mike was now setting up the trap. He put Latios
Ex active with a benched Cloyster to make my Ex's almost useless. I couldn't Target Attack the
bench or attack the active because of Ice Barrier. Luckily after that Mike couldn't draw anything, and
I drew my only Reversal in the deck(three of them were prized) and missed the flip. After 4 turns, I
used enough shady moves to move 7 damage counters over to the cloyster and kill it. I was up 3-2
on prizes, but it wasn't over. I was in for something that scared me to death and I got lucky to get out of it and win the game. Mike had a Nidorana and Vibrava left when he poisoned me with Nidorina. I knocked out Nidorina and thought I had the game in the bag when he evolved into the legend Maker Flygon Ex and killed my Shiftry ex. I was scared and knew I had to get lucky. All I could do was hit him for 90 with Shadow Chant and pray he had nothing. Well, it worked. Even with 10 cards in his hand Mike couldenergy to finish me off with Dragon Claw and I won the game next turn with Banette Ex!!!!

4-0

Round 5 Vs Another Tyler with Flygon

As soon as I learned he was playing Flygon, I was excited. I knew that as long as he didn't get a God hand, I would beat him. I started off with a Seedot and Slugma, but I also had a Magcargo and a Holon Tranceiver to help me. I went first and used Drawup Power to get a Second Darkness for the Seedot.
After he Delta Drew for 4, I searched for Holon Scientist after drawing a Shiftry Ex at the beginning of my turn. I topdecked the Candy with Smooth Over, and Started to Target Attack anything he put energy on.
I started to get a few prizes and used 2 Reversals to get out a couple more pokemon to knock out and I won the match easily.

5-0

Round 6 Vs Jayson with RaiEggs

This was a horrible matchup for me, but I thought a could make it through. I got an Acension start with
Shuppet and a pretty good hand. Jayson Delta draws after using Mentor and passes. I believe I take
out a Raichu before getting Scrambled by another for the KO. I manage to get a Shiftry out and get a couple of Boost knockouts to get the prize count down to 2-2, but after getting my fifth prize he gets out
his final Curse and Scramble with three cards left in his deck to split bomb me for 2 Ko's.

5-1

Top 16 and the Playoffs

I definitely knew that I was in the playoffs, but I checked the standings anyway. I thought I would in 2nd, but my tiebreaker put me down to 3rd. But as it turns out, It was better for me to be in 3rd because of
my matchup.

Top 16 match Vs Nick with Flygon

Match 1
Nick is one of my friends at the local league I play in and I know he plays Flygon. I knew I had the advantage, but I didn't realize what luck I would get. After a turn 2 Shiftry, I reversaled all 4 of his
Trapinch with all 4 of my pokemon reversals an easily won the game after that.

Match 2
This Match was a little harder because I didn't get a amazing start. Also, the judge saw me rolling heads and decided to make me use a coin because he said it was more random. It didn't matter though, I still
hit my reversals and got an easy win after about 7-8 turns.

7-1

Top 8

I now was in the top 8 with some players whose decks I didn't know, so I knew this would be a challenge no matter who I faced. I got paired up with a weird rogue deck.

Top 8 Match Vs Patrick with Fliability

Match 1
I've never seen this deck, so I knew I'd better be careful and quick. I got a couple of quick
prizes and was suprised when he liabilited his weezing to kill my shiftry ex. Luckily, I had a banette ex and was able to power up a Shiftry ex a little later to win the game.

Match 2
I had to go second this game and I was afraid that he was going to kill anything I attached to turn 2
Luckily I got 2 seedots so when he attacked my active, I attached an energy to the bench. I then drew 3 God Cards with my adventurer. Switch, rare candy Shiftry ex. I switched, Rare Candied into Shiftry Ex,
and hit his trapinch on the bench for 50. He did, however, have an energy root on it and Rare Candied into Flygon and Slashingf strike for 70 with a tails flips. I attached and hit him for 100 and he reduced the damage by 10. He put a spinarak on the bench and missed with stun poison I knocked out the Flygon ex on the bench and he brought up spinarak and put a Holon's Castform on the bench. He missed with stun poison and I knocked out spinarak. He brought up Holon's Castform but drew nothing and had to pass and I won the game.

9-1

Top 4 Vs Logan with RaiBok

This was going to be interesting because I don't run delta. So I thought I had a good chance to win.

Match 1
I had excellent luck in this match because I got a God start and lots of heads flips. I still was at a
disadvantage because of full flame and the Raichu's doing 90 for a scramble. I got some quick prizes
and he managed to tie it up with the prizes at 1-1. I got lucky with another reversal though, and brought out an ekans to win the game.

Match 2
This went back and forth like the last game except he got the upper hand. I was behind most of the hand and I learned that he had a Rayquaza ex in his deck. We exchanged prizes until it was 1-2 in his favor and the game came down to a coin flip. If tails my burn would kill me, if heads it's my turn and I could target attack him for the game. I got tails, however, and we went to a third game.

Match 3
I got a bad hand with a Shuppet and a Slugma with a Switch and 4 energy. I got to go first and used Acension. I was able to draw nothing and my Banette Ex got scrambled for the KO. I got nothing with Slugma and ended up losing the game.

10-3

Well thanks to a coin flip and some bad luck I'm not in the finals, but I can still get third and I know I'm facing a Flygon deck.

3rd place match Vs Ryah with Flygon

Match 1
I heard Ryah had won 2 State Championships this year, so I figured she was a good player. The match
didn't last too long though, but I'll go through it quickly. I started with 2 mulligans(my only mulligans all day) but I drew a good hand and we started. After I attached and passed, she attached to Rayquaza Ex and passed. I rare candied into shiftry ex and attached a darkness and passed. She attached a second energy and strength charmed for sixty. I attached a second energy and hit her for 50. She attached a third energy, attached a strength charm and knocked me out. I brought up another shiftry ex and hit
her for sixty and the knockout. She then attached to a benched Vibrava and passed. I reversaled it out and attached to knock it out. She them forfeited the game.

Match 2
I shuffled up for match 2, but Ryah just wanted to quit and said that she forfeited.

12-3

Not too bad of a day. I managed to get a third place trophy, a nice, unopened box, and a college scholorship. Plus I met a few new friends.

Props:
To Reversals, they are the best trainer in the game:biggrin:
To the Hot Tie Society, we invaded well and kicked butt
To Jayson, nice job going undefeated, can't wait to see you at Nats!
To good matchups
To God hands
To topdecking:thumb:

Slops:
To burn flips, cost me my shot in the finals

This is Jared signing off saying make every flip a good one!!

Thanks Guys!

I also want to try to get as many members of the Hot Tie Society to come
to Nationals as possible. So come to Dalez on saturday and we'll work out
a plan.

Proud member of the Hot Tie Society!
We'll be invading nationals, so watch out!

Congrats Jared, it was nice to meet you =) Keep working on that deck of yours; I think a couple tech tools would be godly with Magcargo to search them out whenever you need them. Like buffer piece on your Banettes to survive a Metallic Thunder for instance. ;) Hope to see you at Nats!

Ya I remeber the 20 hour drive u luck sack... anyway gr8 job to u and to everyone who was there!!!
(especially the drive there was grand...back not soo much the test playing the night before the drive and the tourny!! Boy was that fun!)

hey Jared!

gj at 3rd place! it was cool to meet you and all the other players there. hope to see u at nats!

This is tyler btw.

ur shiftbanny is prety rad.
dude, kinda ironic how game 2 vs the raibok ended on a burn flip,
cuz altho u got lucky on the reversals, untimatly a burn heads could've helped more, since you could have, in theory, sniped out the Raichu's and/or Arbok's with Target Attack.
o well. those were great games, and Very fun to watch.
Congrats man, and cool tourney report.
PS: Yes those steve jokes were pretty funny.
yea chris was trying to convince me 2 stay with u guys and watch family guy, and Im like: "I totaly would, but I gotta write down my decklist for tomorrow".
it sounded like fun tho.
