Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

4th place Gainesville VA report

This is my first CC report, and somehow my memory seemed to get worse each round, so I'm sorry if I made any mistakes or forgot something. I assume no one cares about how I got there, so I won't bother writing anything about it the way some people do.

R1 vs Katie I. w/Ambipom/Blissey/Magmortar
Start is Abra, Ralts, Ralts vs Magmar, Chansey, Aipom.
Katie uses Fire Punch, then I use Play Search for Gardevoir PK. Katie attaches to Magmar and uses Smog, I evolve Ralts to Kirlia, attach a Scramble, and use Play Search for Professor Oak's Visit. Between turns Abra is KO'd by poison, and I send up Ralts. Katie benches another Chansey and uses Smog, and I Rare Candy to Gardevoir PK, attach and use Energy Burst for 30. She uses Smog again, and I use Celio's Network to get Gardevoir Lv. X, level up my Gardevoir, and KO Magmar with Bring Down. Katie sends up a Chansey with one fire, tries to attach Boost Energy, I point out that it isn't evolved, and she attaches Heal Energy instead, then flips heads on Scrunch. I KO Aipom with Bring Down, then Katie benches a Magmar and flips heads on Scrunch. I use Bring Down to KO Chansey (it already had 30 damage, I just don't remember when I did that damage). Katie sends up the other Chansey, benches Aipom, tries to evolve it and attach Boost, I remind her that she just benched it and can't evolve yet. Then I KO the Aipom (I felt bad about it, but it was that or nothing), she sends up Magmar and uses Fire Punch, and I KO the Magmar for the last prize.

1-0

My mom gets time called, somehow it always happens the round before the lunch break, and we go to the 7-eleven to get hot dogs, where Andriy almost immediately start complaining about my Pokegym sig:lol:.

R2 vs Karen M. w/Magmortar/Blaziken
Oh great, paired against my mom/sarcasm/.
Start is Chingling vs Torchic. I'm fairly confident, as I mostly made her deck, and know every card in it, and have played against it a lot. Torchic burns my Chingling, I flip tails, and then bench Latios d, attach to Latios, and use Inviting Bell for Roseanne's Research. I flip tails on burn, send up Latios, she benches Magmar and burns my Latios, I flip heads, use Roseanne's Research for Ralts and energy, play both, and use Dive, then flip heads. She attaches to Magmar, and does 10 to my Latios. I flip heads, bench another Ralts, play Professor Oak's Visit, evolve my other Ralts to Kirlia, attach an energy to it, and use Dive. I flip heads, she retreats Torchic, sends up Magmar, attaches to it, then evolves, and KOs my Latios with Flame Blast. I send up Kirlia, evolve it to Gallade, use Celio's Network to get Gardevoir PK, Rare Candy my Ralts, and use Psy Shadow on Gallade, then OHKO the Magmortar. She sends out the 10 HP Torchic, and uses Rare Candy on the benched Torchic, then burns my Gallade. KO Torchic, and Blaziken almost KO's my Gallade. I use Celio's Network for Gardevoir Lv. X, attach Scramble to Gardevoir, and KO the Blaziken. She sends up Torchic, and KO's my Gallade. I send up Gardevoir, level up, attach and use Psy Shadow, then KO the Blaziken and some other stuff FTW.
2-0

R3 vs Travis O. w/Blisscatty
Start is Chingling, Ralts vs Skitty.
I have Gallade and Rare Candy in my hand, so the game looks already won. I attach to Ralts, and use Inviting Bell for Professor Oak's Visit, Travis attaches and flips tails on Tail Whip. I attach to Ralts, Rare Candy it, use Professor Oak's Visit, and use Inviting Bell for Scott. Travis plays an energy and two PlusPowers to OHKO my Chingling, I send up Gallade, attach, use Psychic Cut. 360 damage:lol:.
I kind of felt bad though because I beat him at Fairfax too.
3-0

R4 vs Luke R. w/Hurricane
Start is Abra vs Corsola, Totodile, Totodile.
I got a Gallade out fast, used Team Galactic's Wager when he had a huge hand of energy, KO'd a Feraligatr, then a Feraligatr KO'd my Gallade, my Gardevoir Lv. X KO'd a Delcatty and a Totodile, then the Feraligatr KO'd my Gardevoir Lv. X, and I was stuck with Latias d and Chingling, and no energy or supporters. Prizes FTL. Sorry, my memory was bad this game.
3-1

I was sure I would make T4, so I started sorting my deck early. My mom won, so I thought with 3-1 she would too, but she said she wouldn't and went outside, and then standings were posted and she was in third (I was second), so I had to go out in the cold and find her, which was annoying.

T4 vs Karen M.
Game 1:
Start is Ralts vs Magmar. I attach, use Hypnosis, Magmar stayed asleep, I attach again and use Psychi Boom for 10, Magmar stays asleep, and she uses Celio's Network for Magmortar, attached, and used Flame Blast for 40.:frown:
0-1
Game 2:
Start is Latios d vs Torchic. I don't remember much, but I got a Gardevoir PK up, but I didn't get supporters, energy, or my Lv. X, and lose on no basics.
0-2

My mom gets second place, and didn't seem to lose too easily to Hurricane, even with Magmortar.

Props:
Playing in the top cut without having to play against Bandoom.
Me and my mom both doing well.
Totoro saying I can judge at the next Fairfax prerelease.

Slops:
Getting donked in T4.
Latios starts when I didn't play against a single Honchkrow deck.
Having to beat my mom.

Wouldn't that be intra-league rivalry?

Anyway, it was a weird but good day. Unfortunately I think Lucario EX's deck would have done better in the final bout.

I suppose I could make a comment about how it is considered rude to correct someone's spelling/grammar, but since I don't know who you are, Ferver, I'll let it slide

Sorry - I am the mom of Lucario EX. It is an occasionally pedantic family. You might have noticed now and then. (But really - inter and intra are important for a science type to use properly since they can make literally all the difference in what you are saying. I rarely quibble with simple spelling and grammar.)

Yeah, give it to him, Fervor!! Inter = between; Intra = within. (What DO they teach these kids at school these days!)

Andriy and Tanner immediately start complaining about my Pokegym sig:lol:.

I didn't complain, only Andriy did. It wasn't immediate either, we had all gotten our food and we were standing around outside when Andriy decided to bring it up.

Tanner not doing so well.

I was 3-1, missing T4 on second tiebreaker and losing to the eventual champion. You were 3-2, losing to Luke and your mom. :/

Please get your facts straight, Lucario EX.

Yeah, give it to him, Fervor!! Inter = between; Intra = within. (What DO they teach these kids at school these days!)
No one bothers teaching those outdated terms anymore . My Oceanography prof said something about ferrous and ferric and asked us if we were taught them. We all just blankly stared at him. I knew what they were because both my high school and college Chemistry profs said that they were outdated and we'd only need to know them (especially ferr- and phosphor- ) because they get referenced that way in old textbooks. By the time Fox McCloud gets to Chemistry, they probably won't even teach him the terms at all - then I'll feel old :frown:

Ferrous = Iron (II); Ferric = Iron (III) (but I don't make my students learn those anymore either!)

You probably just beat a bunch of noobs.

Luke and Michael were the only not noobs there. When I lost to Michael he set up really well, and was doing about 130 damage a turn by Turn 4. Oh, and I didn't just beat the noobs, I owned them. I took no damage in a game that lasted all six prizes.

Helen,
Great job!!

Tanner,
Please cut the sour grapes... I'm losing a LOT of respect for you reading this. I understand that missing the cut is no fun, but disparaging others will not help your cause. If I were a mod, I'd *click this one right here.

Take it to PMs, guys... please.

Alright, alright. I just thought I did better than "not so well". (Luke would've destroyed me in the semis anyway.)

Sorry, Totoro.

And Tanner, I'll admit that you did fairly well. Just not as well as you've been bragging about.

Great job! I've definitely been having a tough time at the tournaments, so I'm impressed when anybody makes the top cut.

Wow man, that's pretty harsh. :frown: Just because you don't know people doesn't mean that they are noobs. I've been playing since Jungle was a new set, so I'm pretty sure I've been around for a while. I did take a little time off after Neo Revelations and I never got a chance to go to tournaments until now, so I'm still trying to adjust to the new cards, combos, and format. But I definitely know what's good and how to play. My problem is that I overanalyze and try to compensate for everything. Plus, my league is unlimited so the only exposure to modified decks I get is what I find posted online and what I see at these tournaments. But honestly, I love the game and I play because it's fun.

Sorry about the rant, but I was seriously offended. But yeah, congrats to the top four at the tourney in Gainesville.

There's a league besides mine that does unlimited? :tongue:mad:totoro . It's funny, in an unlimited league, all of the decks I play are Modified . I should put together an unlimited fun deck.

Wow, yeah, same here. (My league's in Charlottesville if you're wondering) Haha, I just want to get used to my decks before the tournaments, I guess. That resulted in a 2-3 in Woodbridge with Magmortar/Typhlosion/Delcatty and a 2-2 (w/ a bye) in Gainesville with Flygon Ex/Ampharos. Hopefully a top cut for me next tourney (doubt it lol).

Yeah...sorry about that. I was definitely wrong. I take pretty much everything I've posted on this thread back.

:redface::redface::redface:

Hey, don't worry about it. I mean, I know that there are many better players than me right now, but I'm going to try to improve so I can be a better challenge and maybe even make a top 4. Look out for me in '08!
