Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

A Few Simple Questions

I'd just like a few things clarified. There's a tournament this Sunday at a local store, I think, and would like to make sure that I'm playing right. I looked in the rule book, but it doesn't clarify much (or anything at all, for that matter).

The first thing concerns trainer cards. You pick 3 at setup, correct? Is there a limit on how many copies of a card I can use? Like, would I be able to tote along 3 Max Revives, or multiple copies of X-accuracy?

The next thing is sort of simple. Does your own goal count as a space? In other words, you pass it and use up one MP, correct? And that would imply that I can park a Pokemon right on my own goal to protect it, meaning that my opponent MUST battle/surround my defender? The way that I assumed was that you couldn't stay on top of your goal, but could protect your goal by occupying adjacent spaces.

I seriously hope that you can have multiple trainers and that you can sit on your own goal. Because that would make the team of figures I have assembled into a team much more effective. I would assume so, as the rule book doesn't say that you can't, but it also doesn't state that you can.

UM are you using the point systems?

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Yes it counts as a space.
Yes you can sit on it.

1. You can have 3 trainer cards. Some tournaments have point limits (the circles in the upper right corner of the trainer card), but I think the standard point limit is 300, and there's no way to get over 300 with 3 trainer cards from next quest anyways.

2. Your own goal counts as a space. You can sit on your own goal.

There aren't published official tournament rules for the TFG. The Trainer card rule would be up to the person running the event.

The Goal is a space.

The trainer cads all depends...
If Point system...
You can have as many as you want of anything but you really on need like 3 of them and I need to know if you are playing by the advanced point system.....

I think the event will utilize the basic 3-trainer rule, not the point system. But the amount of trainers I can use is not what's bugging me, it's the number of copies of each trainer that I can use. I suppose I'll just see what rules they actually set at the place; it's up to them, I suppose, as someone stated here earlier.

Ah, so the goal is a space that I can sit a Pokemon on.

Thanks all.

So far, I've played the game with no limit on the amount of trainers you can have. Basically, I'm saying you can have a max of three cards; and in some games I would play three Switch or Three X-Accuracy (depending on the opponent and which 'figures' I am using).

Everything else has already been answered so no reason to mention them.

I will say though that one thing I've been finding I enjoy doing is putting a strong figure with 1 MP on my personal goal (like Charizard or Lugia), and use the 3 MP figures to move towards the opponents goal. Once I'm in reaching distance, I will play Switch and move the 3 MP figure with the 1MP figure. It's a simple strategy that works in certain situations.

Good luck. I'm sure people here would like to hear a report on how the event went. I know I would.

Shhhhhhhhhhh!!! You told them all my secret plan for victory when I finally can dig up enough for a starter.

That's how I've sort of been playing as well. Now I can take comfort in the fact that I think I can bring along multiples of trainers.

That's a pretty good strategy. What I like to do is to block both of my opponent's entry points with Pokemon who have 3 MP, then clean up the rest field with Pokemon who automatically send opponent figures back to the bench. Then they are forced to move the one Pokemon off of their goal (who have 1 MP, most of the time) and my blockers are free to take the game for me. It's worked for me in quite a few games.

And thanks. If I end up going to the tournament, I'll post what went on there on these boards.
