I was sifting through the coding on the recently launched Pokemon TCG Online, and came across this, surrounded by outlines of the Unova starters. While a Generation VI may not be coming soon, this may either be a new forme for a Pokemon (Keldeo or Genesect?), or the series might be doing an early reveal, i.e. Ho-Oh, Kecleon, etc.

I honestly don't know what to make of this, as I was baffled when I came across this.

I bet it's a new form, possibly of Kyurem, just like Pokémon Platinum.
I doubt it's a Gen VI Pokémon, it has to be some kind of new form. Maybe they will continue the 'alternate form' thing that started with Platinum...

*looks at calendar* hmmm....

To be fair, it was a clear 3 days before April 1 when he posted it...

But yeah, looks like it's been debunked for now, though that is interesting...I wouldn't count on it not being a new Pokemon in the future.

Of course they'd say it's a placeholder. Why say that it's going to be a new Pokemon when they don't want to reveal it yet?

Why would a new Pokemon's image first be used on a TCG product? There's still a large amount of Gen V Pokemon that don't have cards yet, and several others, particularly Kadabra, that don't even have a Modified-legal version. Plus they wouldn't be planning cards this far in advance. It being a placeholder makes sense. For all we know, it could have just been an old version of a Pokemon design they still use as a placeholder. (It does look quite Houndoomish, after all.) Companies use scrapped ideas internally all the time. It's not a big deal.

^Kadabra's a special case, thanks to the whole Yuri Gellar thing. It's possible we won't have one again. The last two Alakazams have found ways to exist without Kadabra. (Via Abra MT's attack or being an SP)

Red Collection soon to be released in Japan says it will fill in all the Gen V Pokemon gaps, probably except for the 3 Pokemon that aren't officially acknowledged yet.
