A Quick Story:

Today, I almost died. Literally. I bike a lot of the time, from my house to town (a good 40mins). I was headed to a University on this hot day just because I felt like biking. I was headed to a specific building because they have public bathrooms and drinking fountains, but as I approached the gymnasium (which was suppose to be closed today) I dropped my phone in the parking lot. Naturally, I stopped asap to pick it up and put its battery pack back in. Then wham, as I stood next to my bike I felt pain in my body. No one was around, it was just painful dizziness. I couldn't use my phone since it locks when it turns on, so I thought to just walk into the building and sit till the painful dizziness went away. My sight started to fade, and I couldn't take one step without being ridiculously off from a straight path. Then I awoke. I had made it to the sidewalk without a clue how, and my bike laying next to me. My knee was scraped and the sun was boiling me. It's interesting though, I woke numb and very content at my fixed position, all I could think about was sleep. Next thing I know, I'm standing again, and open the doors of the empty building. Then collapsed on the inside mat, breathing the cool air. After a good five minutes, I stood again, and made it to the drinking fountain. After cooling down and refreshing, I wait till later that evening to get cooler. Biked home, and drank more water.

I am a very lucky guy. Because my phone was locked, was starting to have a heat stroke, building was supposed to be locked, passed out over the street for I don't know how long, no one was around, and I survived.

Looking back, this doesn't look like much, (but my headache and knee are telling me otherwise). I just want to say that we should appreciate what we got, and not take it for granted all the time, since it can be lost before you know it. That, and keep hydrated.
Thanks for reading.

@TheGeneral:
Lawl indeed. :p to be honest though, I learned that the gymnasium was suppose to be closed later this day. On top of that, I wore sunscreen knowing about how hot today would be. I like going biking and never had a problem before. I'm still a little bit light headed, And yes, I'm human.

So you almost died from your own negligence and decided to write about it? Lol

Whether you were trying to be funny or not, that's not funny and extremely rude. Mewtral glad your okay bro, this happened to me before when i lived in Florida. Keep safe and remember to drink water boys and girls :D

Nope not trying to be funny, I was making a statement. Whether YOU like it or not doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't go on 'pokegym' of all places and post a new thread going "oh man, today I was munching on a sandwich in my car and got a phone call when I suddenly rammed into the car in front of me. I know it sounds horrible but it just makes you realize life is short." No, it makes you realize someone is negligent and wasn't paying attention. THAT was where my statement came from, so enjoy it :thumb:

@StringOfFate & AyameHikaru:
Thanks guys! I'll try to stay more safe!

@TheGeneral:
Just out of curiousity, which part of the story is where I started being negligent? I can try to give minute details about it.

(example: Not bringing water bottle was because my bike doesn't have a bottle holder, so I bring my wallet for gas stations along the way.)

hahahahaha

"I don't have a bottle holder, so instead of wearing a backpack or something that could latch on to me and hold a bottle (or even stopping before the school to get a bottle of water), I just roll without it and almost die."

Yeah CheeseEX, he sure explained his precautionary measures why he didn't bring a bottle.

/Sarcasm

Yet you didn't stop to get one? A 40min. trip, not stopping for water, and obviously it has to be preeeeetty hot out for you to get heat stroke, so....

Read my post to CheeseEX and you'll see what I mean by "negligent."

@CheeseEX:
Thanks Man! and I more or less think that TheGeneral was just commenting on the OP which actually does sound a bit negligent. He was the first to critic about the story also. I'm kinda thinking I was being a tiny bit negligent to write this story the at 1:00am instead of restiing my body!

Well, another thing is that the gas station was past the university, so I was making an early attempt.

As for the back pack, my current back pack is one strap, not good for biking with a constant lean. But I'll find something to hold water for next time.

Mewtral - don't get me wrong, I'm glad you didn't die/hurt yourself worse in the process of going through the heat-stroke, I'm merely questioning why you didn't take those precautionary measures lol. But now you know for the future and you're good to go.

P.S. Buy a backpack/fanny pack or duct tape the bottle to your leg next time lol.

@CheeseEx:
Yes, lesson learned indeed!

@TheGeneral:
No hard feelings found, and thanks. and Yes, I will bring water with me for my bike trips next time! XD

I got really dehydrated once on a bike ride and threw up at a busy intersection, talk about fun -_-

Anyways to the OP, get a CamelBak. They are the back pack water pouches that can go on your back on in a backpack, really handy and can hold a lot of liquid. Kinda Pricey, but REALLY useful.

Putting aside this dumb argument, im really glad your alive, and i do suggest always drinking water, and bringing a water bottle.

Thanks Guys! :J and as for the camel back, if it's anything what I think it is, I'll ask my dad if he still has it. (since he's in the army)

They should still be standard issue.
If you're going to use one, you may as well get the cleaning capsules, because the bladder inside of the camelbak does need to be maintained.

I'm happy you are ok, but you need to remember a few things when you go out for things like that.
For every 60 minutes worth of exercise in the heat, you should have about a quart of water.
You can also measure your level of hydration based on the color of your urine (the closer it is to being clear, the better hydrated you are).

Important note: if you drink too much water too fast, you will flush the electrolytes out of your body, so it's almost as bad as not drinking anything.
Sip your water, don't chug it.
