Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

A whole new way to get shafted

It's not like POP would do anything about it if I emailed them anyways, so the best option I thought I had was to post it here and make it known that something like this has happened, and it shouldn't happen again. That's it.

One last thought here Kant. This thinking is precisely why the feedback system in place in your my pokemon account will never work as fully as it was originally intended to work. You really have no idea how and why it's there do you? Or what happens after you report? Well, I can tell you from experience that both Organizers and Judges hear about reports if POP decides to do so. The amazing part of it is, if you run a good event, and someone makes a comment regarding how well it was run, the organizer and judge gets it. If you make mistakes, or someone else makes a mistake and you happen to be in charge, and someone makes a complaint, even if the situation can't be reversed after the fact, the judges, and organizer hears about it. If it weren't that the emails I've received were marked that they should not be disclosed to others, I could site you examples of both types. You have a certain amount of power here, Kant, so please don't abuse it, but you could have gotten in touch with POP through your my pokemon account, and POP would have investigated thoroughly. However you took your problem to the whole pokemon playing community here on the gym. That's ok though, it's good that the gym gets more exposure - I love the gym, no doubt of that, even though sometimes I'm seen as foolish, I'm not so vain to think I can't improve. However as it stands now, what makes you think the guys at POP would consider investigating any problems now? You had your chance to work with the channels in place, at the event, after the event, and up until you posted here. Too bad really. :nonono:

Just my 2 cents:
I think one of the messages that should be going out to players here is that if you don't see standings after a third or higher round is over, don't be afraid to ask someone where they are. Believe it or not, the staff is there to help you.If they weren't printed, they will be. If they were already posted but you couldn't find them, then someone should help you find them.

People dropping for any number of reasons is entirely valid. Nobody needs to give anybody their reason for doing so. Does it have an effect? sure, so does winning or losing a game as does who you got paried up against each round. It's part of the game.

As for just win more games comebacks, that's a pretty lame excuse so that you don't have to try to address what is being complained about. Besides, I can give you plenty of examples when my kids have only lost one game and not made it the playoffs due to tiebreakers (not to mention 33 at worlds). It happens and pretty much is out of your control due to who you and your opponent's were paired against. Again part of the game. It isn't a perfect system, but doubtful you can have an ideal system that works for any number of players in each group.

I think posting publicly is a good thing, otherwise how will others learn and benefit from your experiances?

Sooooo, Brandon "drops" from the tourney, but is still there at the end of Swiss. Just play the games, good gravy. I dont get all this fuss about points when it is only States still. Nats will decide the rankings anyway, whether you are in the USA, Canada or Mexico!

There are steps to follow to properly drop from a tourney, including the TIMING of when it is doen that affects whether you drop w/o a L in the next round or with one.

Kant: Unless you were with Brandon when he "dropped" prior to the end of the next to last swiss rd, you are only going off what he "said" after the fact, not what he actually DID. It sure makes your argument better if his "story" matches yours. Now, IF an error WAS made, the time to say that would be when the PAIRINGS were posted for the last rd. When Brandon saw he was paired vs dropped (see, if he drops correctly, he never gets paired!!), he could go to the CPU person and Marvin and tell them, I dropped, please re-pair, I dont want a L in the last rd. It could have been fixed at that point. However, it CANNOT be fixed once the last rd of Swiss is completed and standings for top cut announced.
Kant, why didnt you complain at the start of the rd that Brandon was paired when he should have been dropped? Even if Brandon wasnt supposed to be looking at the pairings bc he dropped, you still had a match to play and would look at the pairings. Most players on or at the propsed cut line look to see who their oppo's are playing so they can hunt them down after the rd to see if the won or lost for resistence purposes.

JMHO from a PTO and multiple time HJ. The procedures are in place for the players and the judges to follow. If not done correctly by all sides, sour grapes occur. My, how sour those grapes can be!

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

The part I bolded and italized states he swore he dropped AFTER the round. If that is the case, then the player was in error and the next round was already being paired. Therefore, the appropriate result is a L for him in the 6th rd. No screw job. Brandon erred, not the Judges, CPU or PTO.

Keith

I misused words there, I meant he said he dropped after his match (before pairings since matches from the previous rounds were still going on), which I did say 2 paragraphs later.

and about the feedback thing, there is zero chance that POP will go back and do the tiebreak and pairings and top 8 all over again, and I don't see any chance they will change any rules or anything because of this one incident, so I don't see what sending feedback to POP would of accomplished. I felt posting here would make people be more careful when they drop, and make judges more careful when they input a drop, so they know things like this can happen and affect things.

I can't be completely sure who's mistake it was down the line, Brandon's or the judge's, but all I'm sure is this happened, it was something beyond my control, and I don't want anything like this happening to anyone ever again.

I know how you feel man! I got 11th place because my second opponent slept in, and because I played her, I apparently get put at the lowest part of my division (lowest 4-2 in this case). It sucks. I don't really care for states though, but I feel that no late players should be acceptted and that players can't drop in anything higher then regionals. But in the end, it's all a game. Some of us will never win, because you can make the best deck in the world, But if it can't beat the system it's as good as a starter deck in some guys.
