Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

A Word on Jynx

There's a little red symbol on the card. The original version's symbol looked like a swastika, though it was reversed. They changed the symbol in the english version.

...Just because that's ONE THING that YOU noticed about the Pokemon, does NOT mean that's what it is based off of. All you say is an appearance..
You know, there's alot more to Pokemon that dosen't come to mind when you first see them, such as.. WHAT THEY ARE BASED OFF OF.
I've seen a pokemon only to find out it was based off of something totally different upon futher research, as well as.. some I had not the slightest idea what it was based off of until I coincidently ran into something while doing research for something else (i.e. this is how i found out that clefairy is partially based off of french folk lore about fairies who carry around rocks and live in caves)
SO..
It could seem that way to you.. but.... I really think there's something we're missing.. I mean.. Jynx may very well be PARTIALLY based off of a black person.. but there's DEFINATELY something more to it.. Upon research.. I've realised that none of the pokemon were just "mutated animals" that they just slapped moves and a type on. No. They are all based off of folk lore or SOMETHING many being a combination of different things (i.e. ludicolo looking like a mexican AND a kappa).
Which leads to why I brought up snorunt:
Snorunt and Jynx look alot alike, not to mention they are both ice types. If it happened that Jynx was based off of black people, Snorunt would probably look more human, since they were obviously based off of the same thing.

Interesting take, Mr. Grass. Never heard about those alterations before, though. Very interesting.

Clef, i agree with the Mexikappa thing, check my post. The jynx thing...maybe ice has a meaning, not sure, but like Dr. Seuss, seemingly simple things hold powerful messages. Snorunt, i think if anything they might be based off eskimos or something, but i dont buy the link to jynx, might as well link cloyster too. I just dont see it.

I dont remember if i made this observation yet, but ever notice how Ludicolo line/Jynx are in the pokédex under the mini-type as Human shape pokés. Getting late, so i'll leave it at that.

PS. I got my permit today!!!

Ok, ok people. You seem to take a few things TOOOOO seriously! I think, Jynx has put a curse on the person that started this-a post, cause something's a-noot right. First off, Jynx is a POKEMON, based on people. ALL PEOPLE, no matter what, are the same. Just like, sit down and talk to yerself man! They did NOT base Jynx on what TYPE or KIND of person! And same goes for Ludi-man. It's just a Poke-twerp, k?
...And I know people are out there, and people that you said were like that are outta there. I just think.... [a big I THINK....] This Forum...Is just going to cause-a a lot of TROUBLE! don't double, triple it, just enough to get an arguement started. My case, is done. thanks for your time. Goodbye.

Man, I am tempted to question your sanity, Charizard19190, but i wont. I agree there are people out there looking for trouble in ANYTHING. They will stretch and skew facts to make their view on stuff seem concrete.

That is not the case with Ludi/Jynx. Stretching the truth was demonstrated by Mr. Grass when he gave that long list of pokés dissing people.

Mr. Grass said:
"Medicham: A wiry thin body with MC Hammer dancing pants. Obviosly a mockery of hip hop dancing. Look into Hoppip as well.
Slaking: A mockery of the elderly. It is fat, has a white beard, and can only move once every other turn.
Snorlax: An obese pokemon that sleeps for most of the day. I guess fat pokemon are lazy just like fat people.
Castform: Looks a lot like the headress worn by a well known racist organization
Slowpoke: A mockery of people with learning disorders. The 'dopey pokemon'"

Stuff like that is what people like the guy who sued McDonalds are talking about. There is the obvious and then there is the hunting-just-to-make-waves. People make outlandish claims to get attention or benefit in some way. I am almost 99.99% sure that i will gain no such benefits by giving this topic its renascence. I have seen a fault in pokémon and am simply reporting it to those who will listen. I am stretching absolutely nothing in my evidence for my claims. There are no "kinda-sortas." Everything i presented was plain. I am in no way making something as unreasonable as "pikachu is a metaphor for slavery" sound resonable. I am giving you these posts as i would a book report to a teacher. I see symbolism in books, political cartoons, and i see symbolism in pokémon. Maybe it's an issue for age. Maybe if you are too young to realize these things or to even think deeper than what you are given, you can understand stuff like this. I dunno, maybe if you are too young then you may never get me, but i don't know. I wonder what the older users would say about this issue?

Seroiusly, I cant believe people can be so naive.

Castform: Looks a lot like the headress worn by a well known racist organization

But at least there's a thin band of logic connecting Jynx to stereotypes of black people. There's no reason to compare poor Castform to the Ku Klux Klan.

There's an important flow in this whole debate. Jynx, is a POKEMON, not a human. You cannot, I repeat; CANNOT compare two completely different things and say that they are racist. Before anyone says something about the "human Shape" Pokémon stat, let use remember that it's "SHAPE" not, "Human".

Also, how can we say that this is racist, when there ARE people out there like this. So if you see a person dressed up like Jynx (hair, lips, dress etc), are you going to point at them, and yell: "THEY'RE RACIST!"? Seeing as they're dressing exactly as the stereotypes are. I mean, say, stereotypical Asians and brown eyes, and if I see one, I don't go telling them off for being racist.

How can Jynx be a representation of a whole culture on our planet, when it's not even the same race, and nor is it symbolic of the that population? Jynx does not say that it is all black person, in fact, it's not human.

OK! Lightbulb! I'll post a list! Here are some arguments that i believe in:
  1. There is a significant connection between the infamous, streotypical form of charicatures from the past, if you are unfamiliar with them, look at the previous page for some links.
  2. I do not believe Jynx is human!!! I believe it's an allusion to the old stereotype mentioned above.
  3. I don't think, or at least am not sure, the Japanese wanted to trash a race, but rather wanted to make a funny-founded character(s), but neglected to seriously ponder the results of their creative decisions.
  4. Lotad's line is based off of Mexican stereotypes and the Kappa (not so much Lotad, but the hat he's sporting is a little strange).
  5. I, personally, don't take offense to either lines' depiction of their respective races.
  6. Adults, older people, are able to understand the gravity of the pictures.
  7. Adults, older people, take more offense to this and other things like these because the older you are the more you have been scarred with personal experiences with racism.
  8. Younger people, newer generations, and kids dont take much offense to these things because they have had little to no experiences with racism.
  9. Pokémon the show should maybe think about airing Jynx episodes, maybe with focus groups or something, but the viewer can ultimately decide to miss an episode or so.
  10. People who wish to negate my arguments should be able to counter them with LEGITAMIT evidence, not something along the lines of "there is absolutely no connection," and hyperbole. I am laying out all my cards for everyone to see, please do the same.
  11. Symbolism is key to understanding many things, especially in this debate...if you dont get symbolism and how it works, you might be too young for this debate.
  12. Using negative, degrading charicatures or stereotypes in today's (global) society should be earnestly avoided; if it's not all in good fun, then it most likely shouldn't be done.
  13. Know history. See links in previous posts for some.
  14. There are 2 kinds of outrageous claims: founded and unfounded. Founded is when the claim has real, plain evidence to back it up. Unfounded is when there is very little evidence to back up the claim, and stretching truths is common in them. So, founded has just the facts, ma'am, while unfounded has something warped to fit the objective.
Thank you for your time again, readers.

EDIT!!! 1/23/04
I just read Monday or so from the paper: This new edition of the Sambo story was under fire for dredging up unneccessary bad feelings from the past. A very, very interesting article giving some people's oppinion on why the heat was justified AND why it was unneccessary to burn the remake, citing it as a lesson from the past. This new edition has new art---think Magic: The Gathering art---in a jumbo sized book, they say. They had a picture of a couple of the pages. Sambo looks like a quite realistic, non-exagerated black child. The painting they showed was of pretty nice quality.
But does this fancier, friendlier version excuse the story to be retold? Remember, new art, identicle words. The article is a pretty interesting take on the issue.

If u guys want, I could post the article..if i can find it; it was earlier this week and might have gotten trashed by someone.

PS. I WON!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!
