I also posted this in the "Hello Everybody!" thread, but thought I would post a new topic, since it's more of a question than an introduction.

Hey Everyone!

My name's Josh, and I've recently decided to play Pokemon again. I'm 24 years old (SO OLD!) and played the game a ton as a kid. I was a member of my original local league, and even won a few tournaments and such back in my day. I've decided to start playing again because I needed a hobby, and for nostalgia's sake, decided to check out the game again.

Things have changed.

A lot, I might add. There's a ton of new mechanics, hundreds of new Pokemon (though I knew about those, since I play the VG's) and it would appear that the game is a little more broken than it used to be? (150 hp, back in my day Charizard was king with 120) However, that will not deter me in my quest to continue the game again. To be honest, though, I feel a little self conscious being so old and playing the game. I want to attend my local league after my deck is built, but I'm just not sure how they would take a 24-year old in there. Would I be the only one? Would I be the oldest person there by, like 10 years? I don't know!

Am I too old to play this game? Should I move to a more advanced TCG with an older age group? I really want to start playing Pokemon again with all the new mechanics and such.

No you are not to old to play. My boyfriend and I are 22, almost 23. We just attended a tournament where multiple age ranges were represented, including parents. And these weren't just parents playing since their kids were playing. There were some that were really into it, and really good. We were invited to a league (we haven't gone yet) but we were welcomed with open arms. There were plenty of people around our age and a bit younger, but everyone was so accepting.

I thought I was going to feel uncomfortable and self conscious like you are describing, but what I experienced was quite the opposite. But really, the final decision is up to you.

I am 38 and I still play. Well, usually I Judge or Organize, but sometimes the old man lays out some cards...

Just these two responses here are already helping. Haha.

I'm really excited to go to a League because I LOVE group organized events like the Pokemon League, and tournaments and such. They're always so much fun. I was just worried that I would be the only older person there, playing...

There are generally just as many (if not more) adults as there are kids at most of the modified tournaments that I go to, so you'll fit in just fine, don't worry.

No matter how old you are, you get to be the role model toward the younger players, who are often told by their peers that Pokemon is for "babies".

Thank you for all the responses, everyone!

It means a lot to know that I won't be the only one there able to enjoy something like Pokemon. I'm not embarrassed by it or anything, I was just afraid to be the old guy hanging out with kids at the Pokemon League... not sure how well parents would have taken to that. But I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one... that helps my confidence with this a LOT. :)

Yeah, like everyone's mentioned pretty much, age is not relevant, you'll find plenty of people around the age you're listing. And like you, probably a good deal of them grew up playing the games since they first hit the USA (like me) and have been playing ever since.

How will the younger generation play this game without some old players guidence? If a person believes they are too old for something, then they must not have alot of youth left in them to enjoy life or youthful desires to have fun in one way shape form or another.

As I age, I get wiser. As I keep my "childish" hobbies- the more time I have to perfect my youthful lifestyle with the wisdom I've gained.

I'd say the (roughly) 700 Masters playing at US Nationals would fall into the age groups you wouldn't normally associate with Pokemon.

Lol I'm 13 and im one of the youngest at my league oldest constant player is the leader he's 28 oldest to ever come was 64

I'm in the same position you are; I started playing again because I needed a hobby, and pokemon was always fun as a kid. The nostalgia kicked in when I saw the boosters at a store, and I got a theme deck for Christmas. I'm glad they brought back some of the 151 for the new expansion, personally. Even more nostalgia, haha.

When I went to the pre-release for Next Destinies, there was a group of about 10-12 people that were my age (21) or older. It's fun to converse with people our age that have the same feeling towards teh pokemanz.
