Otaku: 50 for 3 would have been boss back in base set says, but that drawback would have balanced it out. Maybe it wouldn't have been bad per say, but it would have been one of those attacks that you'd have to exploit to make work. Though speaking of base set days, there are times I do miss them. Things were much simplier then.
Not following you. Are you talking about the lack of Psychic Resistance? The big point is that unlike an actual Pokémon that saw serious play in the early days of the game (
this Wigglytuff), the new
Ursaring has better HP and attacks, just no Psychic Resistance. Yes, technically that
Wigglytuff is from
Jungle, not
Base Set; I don't believe there are any differences between the two set card pool and the one set card pool that would hurt
Ursaring. Help it, but not hurt it.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the babies to come back. Aside from the ones that were released to promote HGSS, none of them have been printed since early DP sets.
I am more disappointed that "baby Pokémon" aren't being rotated out. It is a stopgap mechanic, and be it TCG or video game, anytime there is a good break in the generations, it is time to readjust and let (for example)
Pichu be the Basic Pokémon,
Pikachu graduate to Stage 1 status, and
Raichu become a Stage 2. If they are worried about how this affects a Pokémon they knowingly spam to attract kids (like
Pikachu), just give it an Ability that allows it to be played as a Basic Pokémon but nerfs its attack and/or stats.
That way kids get something they can still fit into decks easily and we get a cool new
Garbodor variant. You know, especially for Pokémon that don't Evolve via leveling up in the video games, that actually even helps to represent the games better. Imagine a
Raichu that had attacks that looked for
Pichu to determine full effect (they've done this in the past, actually), which reminded me of the whole episode about Lt. Surge's Pikachu and how Ash how he Evolved it too soon for it to get its "good" moves.
