Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

All vendors but one forbidden at U.S. Nationals?

I came up with 3 OTHER than GG without even thinking:
Hill's Wholesale Gaming *I know for a fact they've done two big shows on the same weekend*
Dave and Adam's Card World
Troll and Toad

I think we're to take this as, "it is what it is" for now.

In a lot of ways, this year's nats is a learning experience. PUSA has been very forthcoming with the information they used in their decision making process, and since moving Nats was in an effort to make it better, we should have faith that they will update this decision when it becomes apparent that something else is needed.

Also, anyone saying 'Worlds has 0 outside vendors, this is an improvement' the comparison doesn't fit, since Nats typically has vendors. I don't care what other countries are used to, don't bother bringing that up, US playes are used to the conditions at their Nats. If I had it my way, we would be having a Pride Parade and designer PB&J sandwiches outside.

I can completely understand the concerns of PUI on this decision. GG was a choice made by observing their actions at Nationals last year (they were *RIGHT* next to the Pokemon booth) as well as their general proximity to the tournament site. I could probably think of a couple of others that I'd like to see there, but having *any* vendors on site is a big strain on resources, and is also probably a legal hassle as well. I'm glad that there will be at least one vendor this year, and I hope that there will be more at future events.

I know for a fact that it didn't stop most people from doing this anyways. If you going to sell, there isn't much they can do to stop you if your really really determined to as hard as they might try. I think that you have to remember if they say you can't and someone comes up and asked you can I buy that, aren't they at as much fault as you are?

Drew

it was against the rules last year? ..... oh well

it kinda sucks that its a monoply but why cant other card verndors simply rent other floor space and set up shop there

I buy cards on the internet often, usually just before a tournament. I have used ebay stores, and I have used almost all of the bigger sites at one time or another. Although I have a favorite, Pokecorner, because they have jumped through hoops for me and Charlie in the past, I am thrilled that there will be a retailer at Nats to sell sleeves, cards, etc.

Origins handled all of the retailers at previous Nats; now POP/PUI has to handle all of the logistics involved with having a retailer on site. More retailers means more work for POP/PUI.

I am sure that PUI looked at what was available in St. Louis, perhaps with help from Vince, when choosing a retailer. If Nats was in New England, I'm sure POP/PUI working with local TOs PTOs, LLs, and Profs might try to find a New England retailer, and so on for wherever Nats might be held in future years.

I imagine that Nats is going to be a great experience for everyone who chooses to attend. POP/PUI has impressed me with every event we've attended, and just when I think a tournament couldn't be any better, they make adjustments here and there, and the next year's tournament is even better.

I am sure POP/PUI will weigh using a single local retailer, or a number of competing retailers who have to fly to sell, after seeing how this year goes.

Something to consider: If a local retailer is given a monopoly, and expenses are low as no or little travel is needed, then they may hold prices down and give a great value to attendees. The alternative is perhaps five different merchants shipping and flying, or driving, and competing for 1/5th the sales revenue due to the increased competition; unable to lower prices much due to the need to recoup travel costs - the result might be that no retailers want to exhibit at a future Pokemon National Championship.

What's that you say, Pokedad? POP/PUI might just know what they're doing?

Yep.

The thing I like most about getting a collection of vendors is that some of them are able to get thier hands on items from Japan's market to sell here. So will GG be able to do that or will I have to go outside for bootleg /black market to get these rare items?

one of my friends was going to start selling designed playmats
of pokemon at nationals and states but looks like she can't do it at nationals unless they change there mines lol

I wouldn't suggest doing that at all. If you sell enough you could get in trouble for using unauthorized Pokemon trademarks without permission.

The Gathering Ground has a selection of Japanese Items RIGHT NOW at some of the best prices on the net.

At Nationals Last year, they sold Japanese deckboxes and sleeves, and packs, and boxes. They had a lot, and THEY RAN OUT.

They have the stuff. They have ways of getting the stuff.

They are preparing a pricelist for purchase and sale at the event, so noone will worry about being "gouged".

They have the most goods.

I read alot of people on here chatting on this and i guess i can understand where there is alot of tension. Foir me im on teh side oif the mulkti vendor idea. Why drop it to one vendor whne you can have variety and make boith the player and the seller happy. In thsi case gathering ground has ALOT of things to sella nd their booth last yearwas amazing. I hope PUI knows w3hat they are doing becayse if fir any reason Gathering Ground rruns out of product or the players run out of things they like to buy their will be problems. I will hope Mike,Dave or Pete have solutions once US Nats comes around.

Maybe well get lucky and they will bring in a 2nd or 3rd vendor :) Either way ill be there to take pics and document what happens LOL

I don't think there's anything going on other than the fact that (a) PUI saw a need for at least one vendor at the tournament and (b) Gathering Ground is local and a great store.

I think this is just another attempt by PUI to make this a fantastic event.

But I would have to think that if another vendor wanted to come in an rent space in the convention center, they could do that.

I prefer suitcases.

Drew

I'm sure you would loveeee wearing a huge trenchcoat, opening it up and saying "Hey kid... wanna buy some Lv X's?"

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

In my opinion, if PUI wanted to make a little cash they should rent out space there and sell it to vendors like Drew.

Well that would be good, but at what cost? I mean I am sure whatever Gathering Ground is paying I might have a harder time paying out. At the bigger conventions it is really expensive, more than you would think and if you don't make enough your in trouble. Before I start selling at Conventions I need to get my online store in order, but I appreciate the idea. I have no doubt that Gathering Ground will do a good job. I am sure that everyone will be happy. I hope that ever with me bring stuff I will still have SOME stuff that I can trade. I think that the "newer" stuff is what I will be leaving at home for Nationals.

Also guys, for the individuals, there are the little technicalities that PUI needs to be concerned with such as - Sales Tax Licenses, liability insurance, and all sorts of stuff like that.

If you have never tried to purchase space at a major convenion, the table fees, for one table, are usually over $1,000, and with multiple tables, in a prime spot, UP YOU GO.

PUI is NOT doing this for free for the GG. They are paying for it.

Vince

Dude, if you guys are so angry why don't you just make a petition.

What do you think that will accomplish?

Considering that PUI has no obligation to allow any vendor at all, I personally think that all those that think it's stupid that they're only allowing one should be glad that they're allowing any at all.

Will they be buying like last year? i.e. commons, uncommons, rh's, holos, etc...

I am very interested in the answer to this question as well.

I am hoping to sell a decent number of cards (in bulk as well as well as individual cards that are actually worth something) and was worried that I might not have that opportunity since we're not at origins this year.
So, will the Gathering Ground be buying cards this year?
