Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Anatomy of a Fake Pokémon Card

I have a misdreavous with 490 Hp, rare and from new set never unveiled to the public that i got from a flea market near Davie, Florida. I was wondering if it was fake.

In the last few days, some users from Philippines are selling some booster boxes. I really want to bid, but I'm afraid there are fakes. The auction is one day only, which can maybe tell that they want to 'get rid of it'.
So take a look at the picture, and can you tell if you think the booster box is fake: http://www.ebay.com/itm/POKEMON-TEA...582?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b4b4c566

EDIT: I see that someone else already asked about the one who's selling them. So maybe I'll bid.

Hmm, it is a different user which surprises me. I'm not able to speak on the older Boxes, was hoping he had a newer one for sale (Where telling fakes are easier in my opinion) to give a hint, but maybe somebody else knows about that box.

So, being new to the game, I decided to buy my first box of Pokemon cards. I bought a box of the Triumphant set, and I just got them today. Here is the listing:

The cards I recieved were from the Black and White set, and the second pack my daughter opened had a non-foil Reshiram Full Art. That kind of tipped me off that the cards weren't real.

Watch out for that seller, and keep in mind that if the price is to good to be true, it is.

the seller is from china, that's the tipoff right there :( the game is not licensed there, so there is no official product to be had...=/

re: the philippines seller a couple posts above: *50%* positive feedback and you're considering buying from them?!

He didn't have that feedback when the posts were originally made. Now, I don't know who would buy from him!

As a new player to the game, I didn't know that. Oh well, the guy got $50, not to bad of a hit, but still, I was just trying to help others by not getting ripped off.

Rather bold one being posted on Listia this week. In his words:
"Pulled this amazing card out from the pack. I have hydreigon of different kind so I am givign 1 away."
and
"This pack was bought from a small shop in my town and what I pulled from it was this,"

As far as I can tell, this guy truly has amazing luck. Not only did he pull two of the card, but one was in English - and won't be released as such for another month!

(And yes, I'm including the sellers alias there... I'm trying to clean up the counterfeits on that site one seller at a time.)

Leaving off the cosmetic flaws (and there're a large number of those), the rules inconsistencies alone should be a tip-off.

- 'opponents' rather than 'Defending Pokémon'
- 'looses 30HP' rather than 'does 30 more damage'
- 'rounds' rather than 'turns'

...and I just noticed that, in small print at the bottom, where the copyright notice goes, it actually says "Fake Card"!!

This is where it gets good, what does Walmart sell?

Thats one place that will buy anything cheap in order to sell it.

I don't think people have reported issues with WalMart to any significant extent. They generally have authorized and legitimate cards. Any issues have been isolated.

All fake cards i've seen (outside of street vendors, that is) have been at places like mini-marts, gas stations, convenience stores. That kind of thing. Most major retailers have a direct contract with a major distributor.

I got something to point out as someone who is much familiar with the first produced cards:

Why I bring up these 2 cards is I have reason to believe one of them is a fake, can you guess which one?

As once a owner of some shadowless cards as well as 1st edition base cards at one point, I have reason to believe the first one is fake because it just dont look right, it looks like one of the later base production cards that was printed in the unlimited series.

I say this based off its colorization. It looks like though one characteristic of Shadowless base and 1st Edition base cards is the skinny font like you see on the 100HP. But the color seems too bright to be a real 1st edition base, and even base shadowless was never bright in color until years later when they were out of production and the color fades on them, even while in packs.

I could be wrong, but I use to have to deal with spotting fakes in Pokemon as well as yugioh.

Seeing so many 1st Edition base cards on ebay I just wonder if these cards are not getting reprinted somewhere. Especially since some fakes already pointed out in this thread look almost like the real deal.

their could be argument made both are fake to.

On looking at it closely, I say it is real. The foil is right and there are differences between shadowless cards and other cards (other than the shadow). This looks right.

I have never, ever seen a card with the right foil faked.
