Anatomy of a Fake Pokémon Card

thanks for that :thumb:

i take it that the smaller, 83mm ones are the fakes, as the ones ive just pulled from the HeartGoldSoulSilver theme decks were 86mm...?

Yeah.
Although, there is another possibility.
They could be stickers.
Are they Japanese and from early sets?
With unusual holo patterns?

Hi
They are definitely not stickers, and nothing about them indicates a jpanese origin.
They look as good as the 86mm ones, apart from the card isn't as 'solid' as the larger ones - they just feel flimsier.
I only paid £2 for 200 of them at a car-boot sale, so i dont feel too cheated, and at least i now know about fakes and can avoid getting caught out in future! Thanks to this site and some helpful articles too )

also, with fake cards, the front of a package might have a wrong pokemon. a couple of times, i've seen a blue stormfront pack with giratina origin on the front:lol:

Hey. I'm new in this forum.
I saw on Ebay a man who selling booster boxes.
I saw that he is selling right now 3 Skyridge booster boxes for only 76 $.
I want to know if this box is fake; http://cgi.ebay.com/Pokemon-Cards-S...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item414f544810
And also, he is selling another booster box, of Supreme Victors. This time, the sealed box have the Pokeball symbol, so I would like to know if this booster box is fake; http://cgi.ebay.com/Pokemon-Cards-S...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3effabd1ff
Thank you.

Well, Skyridge was printed by WotC, not Pokemon USA, so that would not have the white Pokeball symbol.
But it should have a white WotC logo on it (see here for an example of what that looks like: http://theminiaturespage.com/news/pics/2007/aug/519193a.gif ).
I don't see that on the packaging, so that's a concern.

As for the Supreme Victors, while it has white Pokeballs on it, they're only covering half of the front, so that looks odd.
I can't say for sure, but I would be concerned.

I can't say if there are fake cards from Skyridge or not. They don't send out announcements about what sets they have printed fake cards from. I can only tell you that I'm concerned that the box doesn't seem to have the correct marking on the plastic wrap and you have to decide for yourself from there.

As for the pokeballs on the wrapper on that Majestic Dawn box, compare them to this box: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pokemon-D-P-V-M...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5191bb032f
Note that the ones on this Hong Kong seller's are smaller. Again, that's a concern.
I would be worried about spending my money on them, but you have to make the final decision for yourself.

Fake card?

I recently saw a Metagross ex from Power keeper expansion but it has a golden border instead of the sparkly one, is it fake or just a special edition? I saw one on eBay but it has no description. Please, could you reply to my mail [email protected]? I wanna know cause my friend got one and if it's legit, I wanna trade it.

We don't respond to emails.
That's not how message forums work.
It's fake.
There are no Ex cards that have a gold border.

Those are real.
A bit old. Nothing is currently legal in the format.
But if you want them for your collection, they're real.
But is there such a box that contains 24 blister packs? I mean, 24 blister pack, that each of them contains 2 packs?

Sure.
Bear in mind, that case of 24 blister packs was not meant to be sold to the public directly.
That's how the blister packs were sent to the store, for them to open the box and put the blister packs on display for sale one by one.

This is a box that was left over, so they're selling it on the secondary market. The packs are too old to sell in the store now.

Hey.
Do you think that those packs are fake? Can you tell me by thr packs or by the cards? Look at the pictures.

I don't see any indication of it being fake, but I would seriously ask why there are only 28, not the full 36 you normally receive from a box. As well as they are displayed in a Platinum box. This could be someone who cherry-picked the Level X's and high-holo count packs from a box. I'd be wary about that one.

I once saw a TYPHLOSION card that did 1000 damage and its ability (poke-power) was that it couldn't be damaged.

This article really helped.

My little cousin got a bunch of cards from a dollar store, which I've never heard of, so I checked his cards for him. I identified about 50 fakes in less than a minute. A lot easier than I thought.
