Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Anatomy of a Fake Pokémon Card

I have 2 cards that I don't think are fake but I haven't seen any other cards like it before. The cards are Tauros And Banette, they are both from ex Crystal Guardians and both have their names in Gold and HP in Gold and both have a ex Crystal Guardians symbol on the artwork. They both have the same rarity (Ultra Rare I believe) of a shiny silver star. I checked the sides of the cards and they both have the middle layer. I know they are most likely real but I want to make sure with people that would probably of seen cards like this before. I have seen a normal Tauros and Banette card on the internet, they both look completely normal but mine are different. I am hoping they are real and that the features of them would add a bit more value to them. Thanks.

Those are real.
They are alternate holos from those sets.
Just like packs now have one card inserted with a reverse holo pattern, some sets from this time period did their alternate holo versions looking like you described.

Quick question. I was going through my cards and found what I believe are two fake cards in my binder that I didn't notice before. One of them is a Stormfront Mamoswine and the other is a Rising Rivals Vaporeon. Problem is, is that I've only bought sets from WalMart or Target and they're the actual packs, not anything from a flea market or second hand place, mostly from the Plasma Storm and Plasma Freeze sets. Is it possible to have received fake cards in real WotC packs?

Not likely unless the packs are tampered with.
But what makes you think they are fake? You don't say.

im collecting vintage pokemon sets. after finding out after a trade that 3 of my cards in the trade were fake and finding out that about 32 other cards were fake. ive been super paranoid and supest almost all my good catds are fakes. my holos feel diffrent from the others and are thick. I did the light test on some of the fakes and two of them passed the light test so im worried because I really dont have any way to test them. I heard that the holos are suppose to be heavier but..yeah xs helps me...

Aren't they the alternate foil or reverse holo ones?

Hey just bought a machamp pokemon card and was wondering if its real. Everything about it looks good(except condition) except that the top corner has peeled up to reveal a fighting energy card underneath. Is this how they are manufactured or is it a fake. I would love to know the answer because i have a bunch of cards i want to sell and this affects the legitimacy of the rest of my collection. see profile pic.

a better larger scan from above. but it looks like they pasted the machamp on top of the energy card.

First, no cards are made by pasting them onto energy cards.
Second, all Machamp base set cards (with one special exception which is not your card) are holographic.
I suspect that your card is not holgraphic.

It is holographic and is identical to my real machamp card. The only way i could tell it was fake was because it peeled, unless I missed some thing else. Added two pictures too my gallery, check them out.

Today, I've seen the biggest collection of fake cards. Most were easy to identify by the finish on the card (the fakes have a matte finish and are thinner than the real ones). Also, some are Yugiho-sized cards, and the obvious with wrong HP.

However, there was a couple of holos, and they seem like good ones, except for the paper used. there was 4-5 sets of Suicune-Entai Legend Cards (94-95) some I was pretty sure were fake, others, not so.

In the lot probably 75% were fake cards (out of about 3-400). I offered to take them off his hands (so that I could parse through the lot and keep only the real ones, but with the amount that are fake, I'd be inclined to think that there was little of value there, if any. Even some of the energy cards were fake (???)

I just bought a bunch of pokemon cards cheap today off a seller and was promised that they were legit cards. I'm not that much of an expert and I've only ever bought a few cards from legit packs/decks so this is my first time examining cards to see if they're fake.

The guide was really helpful, but even after I've gone through the whole list and everything appears to check out, I'm not 100% convinced all the cards I bought are real. I think one or two are definite fakes but I'm clueless about the rest. Like I said I'm no expert but while the font and energy symbols etc seems legit with no real flaws to me, the colour of the back of the cards seem to vary, some darker some lighter shade of blue. There's about 42 of them so if anyone is willing to offer to help me take a look with a trained eye I would be more than happy to scan and upload. Thanks.

There are variations in the colors on the card backs.
You'll see if from different vendors or printing plants.
They do try to get them all the same, but they have not always been successful.

That alone would not make me call a card fake.

Can someone inform me if the first Full Art cards had the ribbed texture on the front? I only recently got back into collecting and the BW, NXD, NVI full arts don't have the textured front like the more recent sets do. I think it starts from BC?

Also, do any of you do the bend test? Old fake cards used to be a lot flimsier so would feel more bendy.

Thanks for the great article and sorry for bumping such an old thread!

Ok, I know this is an old thread but I am unable to start a new thread & I cannot find information regarding this anywhere. I bought my son a Roaring Skies Trainer box. We got it home & everything was fine until we got 1/2 way through the deck that came with it. There was a completely blank card with the Pokemon print on back as normal but where the energy art should be nothing but the yellow boarder. The card should have been a water energy trainer seeing we were missing one from the deck/pack. Has anyone ever seen a completely blank card mixed into a deck? Thank you.
