Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Annual Pokegym Mutant Booster Draft (SWISS) @Nationals Sat. 6/26

We are looking at the possibility of running it swiss. We will finalize the details over the next few days and let you know for sure.

I would also make sure all your pretournament announcements are also in line with US laws, I almost wish you would have tried at the one in 07

Meaning what? If you don't care to post here, PM me please.

I have no problem talking on a public forum, the 07 Mutant Draft was the absolute worst tournament I ever played in, first it started almost 2 hours after its scheduled start time and the thing that really got to me was the fact that we weren't told it was a single elimination till after the tournament started, Spookes I felt was down right rude and came across and like to "throw her weight around" if you would. Those of you know me, know that I rarely speak out against PTO's I have a great amount respect for them, but I really do believe respect is a two way street.

During her Pretournament announcements Spookes made the announcment that if she heard any swear words including small ones (the one that rhymes with Sam and the opposite of heaven) their would be no warnings first offense that she would, 1 have the individual removed from the premise and 2 take their cards and keep their money.

1.) This one is up in the air, Spookes herself had no legal right to do this, she had no say over the hotel property, however due to the hotels contract with Pokemon, I'm willing to gamble that they would have gone along with this. I think this is very extreme for the first offense and a warning should preemt any "removal from the premise". This one she probably could of had done.

2.) If its private property the owners can ask me to leave, but you can't depribe me of property I payed for. Many of the older people knew this and had a "just try it look" on their face but alot of the younger players did not. THERE IS NO REASON FOR A PTO TO TELL A YOUNG KID SHE IS GOING TO STEAL THEIR CARDS.

We'd play if it were Swiss, but $20 to maybe play one game is too much. I'd judge too if it could be organized to not run into the wee hours of the morning. PRs are only a few hours, whats wrong with that format? Its not like you have to have a clear winner, either. People just want to play.

This may sound silly. I think that maybe a front page page poll might be in order. It could go something like this.

First should be - Under what circumstances would you play in the Mutant draft if it single elimination?

I will play regardless

Single Elmination

Swiss

I am not going to play under any circumstance.

I just think that the above might help decide what to do exactly.

Jaeger - remember that at all times you are at the mercy of your host.

- In a tournament you are always at the mercy of the TO.
- In a hotel you are always at the mercy of the manager.

Nearly every business contract and every terms-and-conditions paper, will include the line somewhere, that states they can terminate your deal for any or no reason. They may or may not refund you for this. It's a safety net and they aren't afraid to use it if things get ugly. Would they? Probably not - but don't feel like you're entitled to the hotel room just because you paid for it, and definitely don't think that a TO can't remove you if she feels you're destroying the spirit of her event.

Kayle: Lets say you walk into Mcdonalds order your food and pay for it, at this point the food is yours. Lets say you sit down and start eating, but after 10 mins you start a fight with another customer, Mcdonands is on private property they can ask you to leave at any time for any reason (bar discrimination laws, etc.) but they can't take your food from you because you payed for it, it is your food.

The TO did not own the hotel, she had no legal right to ask someone to leave, (I'm guessing the hotel had some deal with Pokemon though, she probably could of had an individual removed if she wanted to my point is she herself had no legal right to). While I do not condon swearing at events with young kids, I do think removing somebody from the tournament area for minor swearing without a warning is rather harsh. The first example was more or less an example of a TO overly throwing her weight around rather than an actual legal issue.

My major complaint was someone telling me they were going to take my personal property from me.

This is going to be a GREAT event - and I know there is a lot of hard work behind the scenes going on to make it fun and "worth it" for everyone. Hope to see you there!!

^ that is an interesting question, I will get with the others and see what we come up with!

- The McDonald's analogy is slightly incorrect because you do not own a hotel room by any means. You are borrowing it. The idea I can understand, though.
- The TO can certainly work out a deal or understanding with the hotel such that she has legal rights to tell people where to go.
- The best way to prevent serious penalties and crimes is to make the punishments harsh and swift. Some people are very harsh on swearing and other inappropriate conduct, and I don't blame anyone feeling that way at a Pokemon event; if they do, it's perfectly appropriate to make the initial punishment very harsh as well.

Swiss mutant draft sounds very exciting! I wish I could go...

Can we evolve a LEGEND? I'm guessing no but never hurts to try, :p

The odds of getting both halves would be pretty slim, but the answer for that is a no.

And you are right, it doesn't hurt to ask.

To all, can we please keep this to the topic at hand. Thanks.

Since you will in all likelihood get packs of all different sets, the probability of getting a playable Legend pair of cards approaches so close to zero as to be as good as zero.
So, if anyone happens to get a pair of Legend cards, then they can make an appeal.

There's something I'm not understanding with the examples given

Play Baby Magby(Fire Type).
Evolve into Moltres ex
Evolve that into Charmeleon
Evolve that into Charizard(hey, a normal evolution!)
Level up that into Infernape Lv. X

For this one, isn't moltres ex considered to be a fire stage 1, evolving from a baby pokemon, and therefore can not evolve into another stage 1?

When snorlax evolves from munchlax, he's considered a stage 1 isnt he? I remember this coming up because of machamp.

Nope, it is considered an Evolved Basic. It is not a Stage 1.

Snorlax is still a Basic in your example. Just an Evolved Basic.

Notice, Machamp specifies Evolved, not Basic.
