Cresselia-EX – Psychic – HP170
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Sparkling Dust
At any time between turns, heal 10 damage from this Pokemon.

[P][C][C][C] Psycho Defender: 90 damage. During your opponent’s next turn, this Pokemon has no Weakness.

When Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

Takes a lot of energy to power Psycho Defender, but it OHKOs any Mewtwo EX, and prevents them from OHKOing you in return.

Thoughts?

Seems to be good to KO Mewtwos but not much else. So you waste time powering up Cresselia just to KO a Mewtwo, but what else can Cresselia really KO? I feel like if you're going to power something up it should be able to either do a lot more damage, or be useful against a lot more Pokemon than just a Mewtwo. I would not run it.

First turn you opponet a DCE and eviolite to Mewtwo EX , thats 80 damage right there , 90 HP left ... No way you can attach 4 energy or evole gardivoir on your first turn u attach evilite on active cresselia and ralts on bench . You pass , your opponet attaches another DCE to Mewtwo EX , 80 x2 = 160 - 20 = 140 = KO , then you basicly already loss . One way you can run Cresselia good is by running it in Gardivoir Mewtwo ... but u should only run like 1- 2 gardis

Hydreigon is a thing, guys...

Sigilyph is KO'd by Terrakion (and mewtwo/terrakion is not an uncommon combination). Cresselia actually laughs at Terrakion. And Terrakion EX, actually.

It's too bad that recovery between turns is only 10, but that's enough to push it out of the classic 90-per-turn 2HKO range, and that's pretty impressive in this format.

Or you can use Hydreigon with Darkrai which has a much more useful ability (healing 10 from itself only? eh), a better attack, is resistant to psychic, and doesn't easily get Catchered and OHKO'ed by a Mewtwo.

How about using it as a late game Mewtwo counter in Darkrai/Hydreigon? Drop it from your hand, retreat from Darkrai, attach Blend, Dark Trance, KO.

That and it will be impossible to kill in one hit unless they have a double catcher and mewtwo ex.

terrible terrible card. Meloetta is a much much much much better Mewtwo counter, I'm kind of surprised no one brought it up.

If the Mewtwo has 4 Energy, Melotta can trade 2 for 1.

If the Mewtwo has 0 Energy, Melotta can trade 0 for 1.

If the Mewtwo has 4 Energy, Cresselia can trade 2 for 1, taking only 120 from the revenge Mewtwo/DCE... and then KO'ing it, making the trade 4 for 2.

If the Mewtwo has 0 Energy, Cresselia can trade 2 for 0, taking only 120 from the revenge Mewtwo/DCE... and then KO'ing it, making the trade 4 for 2.

So either you trade 2 for 0 (better than Melotta), or you trade 4 for 2 (same as running two Melotta, but only takes one card).

Cresselia can also be used to easily tank a hit if you need to stall a turn, surviving easily all but two attackers in the format (Raquaza EX, and Mewtwo, if you're just stalling a hit instead of attacking), and then healing it all off on the bench.

Is it the best thing on the planet? Not sure yet. Do I want to try it? Oh yeah, very much, been excited for it for months. Is it better than Melotta? I think so.

(Note that this is all for use in Darkrai/Hydreigon, the only place Cresselia is useful. I do agree that Melotta isn't a bad choice for other decks able to supply the Psychic energy)

For me, I like Cressy and not Melotta so Cressy wins the deck spot. If anything, she's a Godsend for Darkrai/Hydreigon.

well I know for a fact that meloetta has been used successfully as a Mewtwo counter in Japan, their meta game is pretty close in alignment with ours. Cresselia is soooo subpar, it's ability has potential, yeah, but as a Mewtwo counter? With that energy cost? Are you rediculous? Mewtwo's already in pretty much every deck, blastoise will give it the ability to tank, and meloetta is a basic non-ex attacker that can be searched with level ball, required 1 energy, and can be splashed easily into almost any deck with little to no modification. I don't even understand how this is up for debate? And the worst part is is that if Mewtwo has an eviolite, you don't even get a guaranteed OHKO, and for that many energy, that's just not cutting it.

I'm not sure what Meloetta does. Sure Cresselia is not good in every deck but its the best Mewtwo Counter that Darkrai/Hydreigon has without trading prizes.

psychic :psychic: 20
Does 20 more damage for each Energy attached to the Defending Pokémon.

but only 80 hp...

So you're not sure what meloetta does but you're saying its inferior to cresselia? At this point I think I'd be doing myself a favor come cities to not offer up an opinion.

and it's also definitely not the best Mewtwo counter. I hate to remind everybody but in almost every situation the best Mewtwo counter is Mewtwo. Meloettas advantage is surprise and effectiveness against decks like eels, Ho-oh, energy heavy decks etc. of course you're going to lose it, but who cares? being able to drop it out of nowhere can really mess up an opponent who is t expecting it.

That and it will be impossible to kill in one hit unless they have a double catcher and mewtwo ex.

Or they can simply wait a turn to Catcher KO your Cresselia since I don't think you'll be using Cresselia as a main attacker.

I'm not much of a fan of ex Pokemon as counters. It's very dangerous. If you're going to have a counter that only really counters 1 Pokemon, don't make it an ex.
