How many of you woke up this morning to find ashes everywhere? If you live in the Orange County or LA Area, then if you look outside, you will probably see black and white ashes all over the place, maybe even some dried up and dead leaves. This is because the Santa Anna winds, overnight, have carried over everything from the wildfires to the area. Also, has anyone noticed the orange/red sun. This is not because of the huge solar flare coming towards Earth, but because of the smoke in the sky making the sun look that way. All of this just because of one stupid fire starter who used one single match which changed the sun's color and caused everything to be dusty. Anyone else having the same problems?
 
Well, I was driving down to Palm Springs yesterday, and the smoke and ashes were more like a wall... The sun was blood red, and it appeared to be night a good portion of the time.

Very odd. o_O
 
Kinda makes me happy I dont live in Los Angelas right now.

(note, there is no solar flare coming at us, it's the radiation/ejection of the flare :))
 
Whoops. If a solar flare was coming towards us, then we would be doomed. Especially since the one on the Sun right now is way bigger than earth.

You are lucky for not living in my area. We left our windows open last night because it was so hot. Luckily, the ash didn't come inside but now we have to dust the shutters, again, even though my mom dusts them every day. Some of my neighbors' rooms are full of ash.

*wonders why no one has cracked an "Ash" Ketchum joke*
 
There is a huge fire southeast of us...my cousin just called to see if we could take their two dogs, should they have to evacuate, if the wind shifts north. :(

The neighborhood that's threatened/on fire, Scripps Ranch, has HUGE houses, surrounded by eucalyptis trees...which are extremely flammable. The Santa Ana winds aren't helping at all, either. Problem is: a LOT of our firefighters and equipment were sent up to fight the fires up towards San Bernardino. We had the tv on for a bit, before my youngest started getting scared, so I've got it off but have the radio on. I-15 is closed, just south of us.

Something very strange about the SD Country fires: the last time the Chargers were on Monday Night Football, the Harmony Grove wildfire occurred, destroying many homes. Well guess what: the Chargers are on MNF again, tomorrow... :eek:

Hope your you and your family are ok Pokemom, as for us, I live in Sorrento Valley, so were taking precautions and packing up vitals and valuables... Im about to turn off my computer to help out with the energy thing again. A few of my friends have evacuated etc... Well, to anyone in San Diego, good luck, take care and God Bless...
 
Yes, I hope everyone is fine in San Diego. Make sure if you have to leave your home that you turn off the pilot flame and have your car pointing out of your garage. I would also suggest that you turn off the power and if there is some way, turn off your gas.

I guess the only good that comes out of this would be no school for anyone in San Diego.

We've just been informed that our schools are closed tomorrow, all employers are being asked to give their workers the day off, the NFL has moved the Chargers/Dolphins game to Sundevil Stadium, Phoenix, over 150,000 acres have been burned. Essentially there are fires from the north boundary of SD County all the way down into Mexico.

My cousin is here with the two dogs; we just heard on the news that the area where his house is has a 'be prepared to leave ASAP' warning....it's gonna be a long night. But we ourselves are northwest of the fire areas; other than the smoke, ash, etc. we're okay...

It doesnt seem to be getting any better unfortunatly... I just heard that in some areas there are winds of 10-15 mph, and that will not aid firefighters at all. I think at least 1 of my friends has lost their house, and Im worried about the rest. Fires just keep popping up sporadically, and there arent enough firefighters or air support for this. I really wish i could go and help out somewhere... Maybe I can go and help in the Mira Mesa High evac center, thats about 10 minutes from my house.... Im going to go through my clothes to see what i can give to those who will need it more than me...
 
Oh my...

I didn't realize that it was this bad. My father's up there working right now and I'm begening to get worried. I'll remember to keep the people down there in my prairs.

At least where I am, the winds have really died down as compared to yesterday, when I had to dismantle our shade canopy before it blew across the yard.

They've just announced that SD city schools and the district my kids attend are closing the schools again tomorrow, due to air quality issues, staffing, etc...

Every news channel is now saying that there is a huge chance that on Thursday, everything will be overcast and there will be no winds. That is just perfect to kill fires.

Hope everything is going okay with everyone.
 
Schools are closed here for the rest of the week; they'll make a decision over the weekend whether to reopen on Monday.

The winds have died, which is a great help to the firefighters....but is awful for everyone, as the smoke has stagnated instead of blowing away. The light was eerie all day; we had to turn on lights inside by 1 pm or so. Visibility is dreadful, and breathing is difficult when outdoors.

More evacuations are going on in the mountains/backcountry; a lot more homes have been lost up there. Luckily the friends I've been concerned about are all safe, as are their homes.

To keep things as 'normal' =/ as possible, I'll be holding League tomorrow night as always though I don't know if anyone else other than myself and my kids will show up...

Today, the air was so horrible outside that barely anyone in our 2000 kid high school would go outside. We aren't even close to the fires, but the air is so polluted and full of a burning vacuum cleaner smell that it would make you sick. We weren't even allowed to go outside for P.E. It didn't get that dark, but everything was red from the sun. It almost seemed like someone kicked up a whole bunch of sand into the air.
 
It seams really stange, a few years ago when this happened, us bay area people got a lot of the negitive effects of the fires. This year we are only seing a little worse air quality. I hope every one in southern california is safe.

Thankfully there has been moisture finally here in Colorado/Wyoming so Fire Control shouldn't be too much of a problem, just as long as we keep getting more snow. The last two summers we have had record fires and extremly long campfire bans. In fact, Cheyenne, Fireworks capital of the great west suffered badly the summer before due to a fireworks ban in the area. So just keep hoping for rain or start playing with your water type Pokemon some more.
