Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

At what point do you get your mind right?

Save money, take some time to organize your collection and sell/trade stuff you dont want, need or will be illegal next season.

Last july I fooled around with some other TCGs for a bit.
This year I think we are going to do some lulzy TCG tourneys at league. Bella Sera, Free Realms and Duel Masters tournaments!

Maybe that's why I don't do well at Fall BRs. I take the Summer off. Only once have I been lucky enough to get invited to Worlds.

Like the post above me says, do some "Spring Cleaning" late this year (during the Summer "down-time").:thumb:

I think over-preparing for Fall BRs is something not that wise to do; inbetween the new format, new upcoming set release, it'll be impossible to determine anything about what decks or metagame will appear (though of course, you can generally count on seeing SP decks in this case, as they're the least impacted overall by the rotation). Keeping sharp never hurts though, summer can be a fun time to test out what to do with the lack of Claydol and such.

As for me, I just generally take the summer off and reorganize my binders, though I always make at least 1 playable deck for the next format, so that I'm not scrambling to come up with something to play once it hits. Normally I'd be doing some VGC work otherwise, but as the "format" is very likely going to be Black and White (which has triple battles, which may or may not be used) plus all the new Pokemon, even it is kind of a waste in ways to prepare for; not to mention VGC Regionals start very late compared to when the TCG season starts.

There are some things you can upgrade for the next season like Luxchomp as it doesn't change much, but most decks that people work on for MD-HGSS will not be the best choice for MD-UD. There is going to be a "Lost Zone" deck before Cities, maybe before BR, and the format will change for it. There will also be a Trainer lockdown deck, which may be a Bellawesome varient or may be a modified Gengar, but it will change the format too. None of that will stop me from building decks now, but I realize some of my lists will be positively irrelevant to any tournament. So what? What else do I do during the summer that is relevant to anything anyway?

I usually look at scans to see what we can possibly get and what would work the best for an engine in the next format. Also, most people I know up in NE are real lax about battle roads, we are all trying to find some deck that works for us, most of us won't even have a final deck until the night before. In my case in '08, I didn't even have a final list till the last BR I went to. Though sometimes you have to go with what is given to you. I thought I was playing TLC when LA came out. I end up seeing that I have the cards for BellaPlume and play that.

Quoted for truth. Heck, I was once literally building my deck during the car ride to a br a month ago.

For BRs?

They're silly and wasting their time if they overprepare. They are worth minimal points. It might be smart to plan for CCs, but that's 2 sets away- so it is probably smarter to wait a little still.

Preparing/testing/working with MD-on is not the same as overpreparing though. This stage in the game is (should be) all theory. There's no need to test- we have no idea what pans out for CCs because BRs haven't started to do the major "sift" of what "pans out" to be the played/popular. If you bother playtesting for fall BRs right now then you are really bored.
