Battle Road Vancouver 10/11/2009
I 7-0d last week's battle road with Bidier's Gyarados so I decided to run it again while makin a few changes since some cards didnt work as well as i liked.

Round 1: vs Gyarados (Cor)
Unfortunately, i play a mirror round 1. Im pertty heavily teched for the mirror, but i was hoping for a complete noob round 1 lol.
i open with sableye and win the roll....he has sableye too!. i get the karp engine going while he bebe's to bench another sableye next turn. im able to gyarados for a prize first and we start exchanging prizes. until....he drops DITTO! ARGH!!!, im ahead by 1 in the prize exchanging but ditto makes things challening. im able to ko ditto by using crobat + sableye + special dark for overconfident for the ko. eventually, prizes are tied with 1 a piece each. i have cyclone energy with all gyarados in discard. i have 1 pokemon rescue in hand and 1 left in deck. my only out was to get that 2nd rescue as im sure hes able to win next turn (bts was on field). fortunately, i had cynthia's feelings so i dumped as many cards as i could. i attached cyclone to crobat g to force his crobat g. i pokemon rescue for karp. bench karp. then using cynthia's feelings. 16 cards in deck, i draw 8. i.....get the pokemon rescue!. rescue gyarados, evolve karp, retreat, ko!

Round 2: vs Gyarados w/ luxray gl lvx (Seb t)
I open with Sableye but he wins the roll with his sableye. Unlike my previous round, he has a pretty terrible hand and i have the nuts so i just take 6 prizes in 8 or 9 turns with a combination of cyclones, warp points, and plus power/turns every turn.

Round 3: vs Flygon/Machamp (Henry)
I open with Sableye, Crobat G, and special dark. Very unfortunate since Henry is a pal and I really didnt wanna donk him.....but he only plays 1 pokemon. We flip the pokemon...he has machop. I crobat g, attach special dark and ko =( sorry bro!

Round 4: vs Machamp (Karl)
Rematch of last week's top 4!
I open with a pretty nuts hand IF he is unable to T2 donk me as I have to leave an exposed Sableye. His starter....Unown G! I breathe a huge sigh of relief as itll be extremely difficult for him to donk me. As expected, my nuts hand takes over and I just take prize after prize with cyclones, warp points, and plus power/turns every turn. He stalls a bit with Relicanth's Amnesia, but I eventually cyclone for game.

Round 5: vs Gengar/something (Hanseam)
I open with Sableye with 2 Roseanne. not great, but playable. his opener....gastly and something with 60 hp benched! i attach basic dark to sableye and use overconfident. my mentality was that im unable to dump all karps until 2 turns from now anyway, so i definitely take the quick prize. his turn.....he attachs energy and passes. im like REALLY? WOW. I WIN. My turn, I roseanne for 2 crobat g. bench both to put the 60 hp thing to 40 hp. overconfident for game!

I am honestly quite surprised he made top cut as he lost to me round 2. As long as hes unable to take the first prize and/or setup his luxray lvx, im confident i will win the game.
1: I win the roll, we both get sableye. Hes a turn behind and i start taking prizes first. he runs out of gas after his 2nd ko and i just proceed to take 6 prizes.
2: He opens with 2 pokemon. I open with sableye. (I know hes unable to donk as he doesnt run special dark from what i saw in swiss & g1). He chooses to go first....his starter? magikarp! with benched baltoy. brutal. i already have a karp in hand then impersonate -> roseanne for 2 more karps. sadly, 2 gyarados prized =( he...has nothing going. i bench karp. Despite the fact I have felicitys, im sensing weakness and need the gyarados. so i roseanne for basic dark + 4th karp. attach basic dark to sableye. overconfident for the KO. whiff on the gyarados. he pushes up sableye and gets his engine going. i felicitys, dumping 2 karp drawing luxball from felicitys =D.
I use a crobat + turn to KO the sableye with overconfident. whiffed on the gyarados again =( he roseanne's for sableye + karp. impersonates again. next turn, i evolve into gyarados, retreat sableye. tail revengee for 60 for the ko.....whiff on the gyarados. ARE U KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? fortunately, im 3 prizes ahead lol. he Kos my gyarados with his gyarados. I bench my karp. rescue for gyarados. bts. evolve karp. buck's + 2 plus power + crobat g. ko gyarados. YAY I GET A GYARADOS. JUSTICE. (yes i know it was a 2/3 chance lol) he brings up luxray, drops luxray lvx for crobat g. drops a gyarados. poketurns a luxray. ko. i attach cyclone to crobat g. he pushes up crobat. i rescue for karp, evolve to gyarados. poketurn the crobat. ko crobat g. i get...the other gyarados!. his turn, he gyarados for 90 with tail revenge. my turn, i use cyclone again. he pushes up luxray lvx. i use buck's then crobat G for game.

Top 2: vs Flygon/Dusknoir/Mr Mime (Sebastian Crema)
Unfortunately, this is probably my worst possible matchup. Night Spin + Mr Mime on bench makes gyarados completely useless. Sebastian is also one of the top players in canada so i knew Id need some good luck.
1: I open with Sableye. He opens with Azelf and Duskull. Darn, no chance for a donk. (nevermind the fact i didnt have the dark energy lol). My engine gets going real quick and im able to take 2 quick-ish prizes. 1 was cyclone on a vibrava. another by killin azelf....however, i had to use a crobat g since i didnt have a plus power. (this will be important later) then...he night maintenance's azelf, roseanne. time walk, gets his mr mime. ahhhhh, no wonder. my only out to mr mime is gyarados or sableye with 3 energy.
he begins to night shade every turn. i try to super scoop up my gyarados with a cyclone. i whiff. i use my 2nd super scoop up...and whiff again. argh, i lose a cyclone play =( i try to setup my sableye (i only run 7 energies, its difficult) while sacrificing crobats.
i drop 3 crobat g and 2 turns to ko a trapinch that sebastian randomly benched. he then says he hopes he doesnt lose by 1 prize or he'll be pissed. lol. i only have 1 turn left. i need 2 in order to get mr mime below 60 hp so i can overconfident for the otk. now, i have to give up 2 prizes so that i can pokemon rescue a crobat g and have enough bench space to crobat twice....because i didnt have plus power and had to use a crobat b4 =( he has 3 prizes left, i have 3. he kos my crobat with flygon lvx's power swing. he mills a plus power. ARGH. i warp point, he pushes up mr mime. i ko the mr mime. he pushes up flygon lvx. 2nd night + roseanne for mr mime. At this point, i have 2 plus power, pokemon rescue, 2 buck's and 1 warp point left in hand. the only way i can win is to get my final plus power so i can ohko the flygon lvx. then, he has to push up mr mime and not dusknoir then i would warp point and ko any of his bench as the max left is 100 hp remaining on one of his dusknoirs. lololol like thatll happen my turn....in between turn mill (w/ 7 cards left in deck.). he mills my final plus power. ARGH!!!!! no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I scoop up my cards to save some time. Nevertheless, theres only 20 minutes left and i basically need to donk for any chance =(
2: I open...a mr mime starter. =\ I choose to go 2nd. he passes. I roseanne for sableye and karp. attach special dark (not good, losing outs to mr mime), retreat, and impersonate for roseanne. Next turn, i start setting up my sableye as he roseanne's for mr mime on his last turn to stall. a couple turns later, im able to ko his mr mime via sableye. he pushes up flygon, drops flygon lvx. Lucian's to push upper energy from dusknoir to flygon. attachs energy. then....he night maintenance the mr mime. kos my sableye. he mills a lux ball. and i draw a warp point. i have a chance to take 4 prizes maybe! I push up gyarados and ohko the flygon lvx. he pushes up dusknoir. he draws....mr mime off the top =( benches it. uses night spin. time is called. i have to take 2 prizes while dusknoir cant take damage from gyarados and only 2 crobat/turn plays. argh, i lose. =(
