Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Back to Basics

The real question is how can we be certain this is/is not an April fools joke it wasn't posted on the 1st of April Because I know Pokepop doesn't live out side the USA but it seems very weird to receive the base set at this time and yet at the same time very possible. They have/will have reprinted almost all of the broken trainers from back in the day the big exceptions being Super Energy Removal and Energy Removal and some of the cards have/will have been modified such as Professor "Juniper" and Bill

Yep. Too much $$$ has been spent on Black and White (video games, character development, preview tins, behind the scenes stuff, cartoon, etc.) to scrap it. Definite April Fools!

Anyone who claims to be 100% sure that this is an April Fools needs to remember the Prerelease Raichu.

Sometimes stuff does just happen on April 1st.

If its true, it would have been cool for the players that started playing when they released DP. Just to see what we had to go trough in the old days. And for the record im not admitting its true.

all combined into a disruptive powerhouse of a deck engine, stripping the opponent of any chance to compete, where who wins was determined by who won the coin flip.
Uhm, yea but... what's so new about SP decks?

The "haymaker" days was one of the main reasons I quit trying to play competively back then. Seeing someone flip over Scyther/Hitmonchan gives me the same depression as seeing someone open with Luxray or Garchomp Today. Bill/Oak/Item Finder meant you were pretty much guaranteed to draw into the cards you needed each turn. The release of Jungle Scyther made Hitmonchan almost unplayable with its -30 resistance to fighting. However Magmar in the fossil set provided a decent counter to Scyther. Ditto, one of the most interesting cards of all time also came out in the fossil set, which not only allowed you to copy the defending pokémon, it also negated what energy types were needed for its attack. Mean Double Colourless was effectively turned into a double-rainbow energy. When Team Rocket came out it was seen as a weak set. However, it did recieve one card that allowed it to be a rain dance killer, and that was Goop Gas Attack. This stopped all pokemon powers from working until the end of your opponents next turn, which meant they could no longer attach multiple energies a turn. Meaning super/energy removal could no longer be worked around. This also made playing Ditto worthless, the only other deck that could possibly compete with Haymakers was "Do the wave" or Dark Vileplume which prevented all trainers from being played. However, with Bill/Oak/Item finder/computer search. You could pretty much guarantee that you play down goop gas attack every turn.

He lives on East Coast, it was posted a few minutes before April Fools day.
Doesn't get much more obv than that.

Also:
"it was decided that it was time to bring unbalance back to the game."

Seriously? xD

"The opponent would never get the chance to evolve their weak Basic Pokemon into strong evolutions, because Gust of Wind would pull up a Basic before it had time to evolve."

However, this point kind of makes me wonder if they'll even print Pokemon Catcher now.

Hitmonchan has a BETTER reprint in that blue karate thing (dunno English name).

Dageki – Fighting – HP90
Basic Pokemon

[F] Low Kick: 20 damage.
[F][F] Forefist Strike: 40 damage.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

What would make us different than Japan? We have built in counters. Look at Goththingy and Vileplume.
You'll just have to play smart.

No April Fools joke will EVER beat a few years ago when Will-iam bought the Pre-Release Riachu and it was posted on April 1st, and everyone THOUGHT it was joke, but it was really real....

I sat on that news for two weeks to post it on April 1st!

I think i spotted a typo... they brought back unbalance to the game several sets ago. ;)

In fact, given the retro craze, potential cost savings, and fact that nostalgia would make it an improvement for me over the current format... *readies Potpourri*

o_O I'm soo glad this is 'mainly' a joke. But some of those cards are coming back. Why am I suddenly wishing I could have been playing back then? ..... Anyone else think it'll be easier for long-time players to work with these then newer ones?

Happy April fools everyone!
