After having too little sleep, I woke up this morning with an intense excitement to go to the first Battle Road of the season.
Going in to the day, I saw a good amount of Zekrom which worried me seeing as I play Yanmegazone. Fortunately I saw not a one. However the the fire type dragon counterpart was surrounding me like the walls in Star Wars(the original). After testing a long time with the deck, I decided just last night to pull Jirachi and put in a pair of twins. This move was essential to my success. There were 36 masters at Six Feet Under Games in New Holland, PA. Awesome turnout! So lets get to it!
Round I vs. Zack B. (Reshiphlosion w/ techs)
We both got set up pretty early with myself taking the first prize. Zack then proceeded to take a prize lead on me. I topdecked a twins and was able to get my second magnezone up and running. after trading prizes for a very long time, time was called with my prizes: 2 his:1. I was able to KO his last typhlosion on turn 1 of the 3 and then sonicboom his ursaring for game after failing a pokemon communication. Definitely the best competitive game I've played thus far. 1-0
Round II vs. Deacon S. (Cat Deck???)
I have no idea what he was going for but then again I only saw Mincinno, Persian and darkness energy?
how he was 1-0 I don't know, but I go first, the usual collector and energize my magnemite, he cant do anything on his first turn except tail slap(I think) me for 30 with a pluspower. I rare candied to magnezone, retreated my yanma attached another energy and won turn 2. 2-0
Round III vs Adam K. (Reshiphlosion)
Basically round two with the table turned, all i could do is get a magnemite and catcher...although we played an intense game afterward in which he still won. at this point, consistent reshiphlosion was concerning me. 2-1
Round IV vs Robert (Reshiphlosion)
Robert couldn't really get set up all game I think because of my T2 judge. I felt bad for how badly I walked all over his deck however I was quite happy to move back into the significant top half of the field.
3-1
Round V vs Raymond B. (Masses of Grass)
He was completely set up all game but i was able to snipe his bench and ohko everything to win this game 6-2
4-1
Now we're at the top table, I know if I win this game, it'll be my first top cut so I'm pretty excited.
I'm going against a first year master with a stage 1 deck, a pretty good matchup for me
Round VI vs Mike (Stage 1 Rush)
I had seen Mike play next to me earlier so we knew each others decks enough to know what we were going against. He opened poorly and I got set up taking 3 prizes before he could snag 1. with a couple of key judges and pluspowers, I was able to ko some donphans and take board control. I took out a donphan for my fifth prize to end the game by using a pluspower and lzing 3 energies. It was such a great feeling to announce that attack.
So that was it! I made my first top cut coming in 4th after swiss pairings.
Decks in top cut.
Reshiphlosion: 2
Yanmegazone: 1
Yanmega/Crobat: 1
Of course, I get paired with a Reshiphlosion deck.
Although I held my own in both games, Brad had a very consistent deck that just kept dishing out tons of damage. So I ended up finishing in 4th place! Not so bad for the first tournament of the season. And, because there were over 32 people, I'll get a championship point too!
Awesome job to everyone that played and judged! It was a great time and I look forward to more of it in the weekse to come.
Analysis:
There is a lot of Reshiphlosion out there, a lot. You have to be able to beat it to win, no questions asked. Stage 1 rush is a tough deck to pull off, Its good but leave the winning to Pooka.
Gothitelle is scary...if you're playing reshiphlosion. other than that, just test against it, figure out what you have to do and itll be cake.
Zekrom seems to have stayed in Canada, it just isn't up to par in our meta.
The amount of vileplume is incredibly scarce, I'm going to try my mewplume box tomorrow and hopefully make a splash. If it doesn't work out i'll probably play this for the rest of brs.
comments are more than appreciated!
