Leeds - Battle Roads Report
First and foremost, my thanks to everyone that participated, depsite illness resulting in a considerably smaller turnout than booked places (2 no shows and 6 confirmed as ill)... 12 Junior division, 7 Senior division, 3 Masters division so clearly age modified, but there was a theme to the winning decks. .
In Juniors... congratulations to Joe L. and his Gliscor / Lucario deck... undefeated on the day... and great to see a fun / friendly elimination match at the end... a deck well constructed and very well played... victory medal well earned. Joe W came in second, his first "lost" match being the eliminations.
On to Seniors... congratultions to Ben R. and his Fire deck (Infernape / Charizard / Magmortar / Blaziken)... a diverse number different of Pokemon, but incredibly well played winning 3 and losing just 1 to Frank (see Masters).... congratulations also to Jack C. coming in second place also 3-1, but coming second on opponents win %... also having lost to Frank... well played guys!
And finally Masters... just 2 in this category so prizes were guaranteed, but Frank B. having travelled in from Holland was clearly determined to win and made mince meat of the competition with hiw Gliscor deck... 4 straight wins, with little real resistance and another well earned victory medal. And a quick mention for PJ... great to see you and great to have you back in the game after 2 years not playing... we'll get you stocked up on new cards at Saturday's pre-release!
A couple of others worthy of mention....
Thanks to Emily H. for choosing to share her birthday with us... we loved the cakes... thanks!
And I appear to have a birthday present you left behind. I promise not to eat them!
And a special mention for our youngest players (Sam G. & Zach L.) aged 5 & 6 respectively... the future of the game and you both played so well... reallt impressed guys and great to see you give the Juniors a run for their money... we expect to see you in the top cut in future years.
So the theme for the winners... definitely Gliscor, although with clear twists on the Pokemon played to support them... that said, great to see a deck coming through that isn't featuring elsewhere.
And lesson learned for organisers everywhere... mid week events are smaller turnout... Saturday's pre-release by comparison is fully booked and we've already have to turn 5 people away :frown: despite clashing with Russ's fantastic big weekend.... so if you were thinking of dropping in at Leeds on Saturday for the pre-release, we'd recommend you support Russ in Bournemouth, unless you've already booked a place in Leeds.
