Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Best/Favorite Anime?? (Spoilers for Everything)

Well, I have way too many favorite anime to list, but one I've just finished watching (and am now rewatching) is Myself; Yourself. I thought it was pretty good (though sad at parts), I think worth a watch.

Indeed, we all probably have quite a few anime that we list near the top. (in fact I just found a new one, but I'll save it for later). What do you like about Myself; Yourself? What makes it worth the watch in your opinion?

Well, first of all, I at least thought it was a decently put together story; kid comes back to his hometown after moving away 5 years ago, meets up and reconnects with old friends, and tries to figure out why the central love interest is so moody initially. It has some rather interesting (and in a few cases, kinda scary) subplots interwoven in, which adds some depth as well. I mean, some people might see the overall story as kinda simple and predictable, but I like simplicity; anime doesn't have to have the enormous social messages as some do like Gundam and such.

Myself; Yourself also has some pretty good gags woven in as well, I found myself laughing quite a few times in every episode. And yet, in parts, it's quite sad as well, almost to the point of tearyness. Character development is pretty good as well. The ending, I'll admit it a bit abrupt (only 13 episodes) and doesn't tie up everything, but it tries its best to.

I greatly enjoyed Neon Genesis Evangelion...

...I have not really enjoyed most of the series mentioned so far in this thread.

This is why I like this thread. Posts like these really help when trying to pick up another anime, as I'm pretty much left to my own devices, and I rather not flail about using trial and error finding good shows to watch. I'd totally catch a few episodes of Myself; Yourself now. (Well, after I come down from the experience of watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

Side note: When watching an anime for the first time, do NOT finish it within 1-2 days. This may be obvious, but during the summer, I got really bored and pretty much watched all of Gurren Lagann in 2 days. It might be just me, but it's still a mind trip right now, catching back up to all that happened within the story during those hours. Another series I've heard about, not watched yet, but was recommended to me by my college roommate was Rahxephon. Apparently its "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Done Right." I'll totally hop back on after I watch it during the school year.

Wergoheb, what anime do you like besides Evangelion? Do you prefer anime in that genre (mecha) more? Or anime with that style of storytelling more?

My favorite anime is deffinitely Naruto, it's the only one I watch. The main reason is because i like Gaara so much. He's my favorite character in any show ever

Yeah, I tried not to but in any spoilers while explaining, so hopefully you'll be able to enjoy it all.

And definitely don't watch any anime all in just a day or two, takes time to appreciate a good anime.

I have liked the Following Animes:
Cowboy Bebop, Great Teacher Onizuka, FLCL, Last Exile, Ninja Scroll. Love Hina, Akira, Elfen Lied, Perfect Blue

Fullmetal Alchemist was alright, I watched Death Note but thought they could have wrapped the last ten episodes up in about four or five...

I'm sure I have left out an awful lot, I've watched a good number of things. I'm generally not a fan of the giant robot genre, and I wouldn't really compare RahXephon to Eva. But I have heard it is worth watching

Here's a decent summary I found on a site for Myself; Yourself, should be better than the one I gave lol:

"Sana Hidaka is a young boy who moves away from Sakuranomori, leaving his friends behind. Five years later, he returns to his hometown to find that much has changed, both the town and his friends. The one most changed is Sana’s childhood friend, Nanaka Yatsushiro; she’s no longer the kindhearted person he knew during their childhood. Starting a new beginning in his hometown, he’s determined to reconnect with Nanaka. But with a storm descending onto their lives, problems rising among every turn, Sana and his friends recollect through their own memories to find a solution for each of themselves. But what will they sacrifice to do what they believe to be the right choice for themselves and each other?

This series portrays the different tragedies of modern life that people experience, but also what it means to truly care for that special someone close to you and what you would to help him/her."

heres my favorite anime shows preferably i like watchinmg these in japnanese english subs

Death note,pokemon,naruto shippudensometimes bleach

i also started watching code geass

Hetalia Axis Powers is the most amazingly racist show ever*. Racist against everyone at that!

For example, England, who is secretly obsessed with the occult, has Busby's Chair, an incredibly cursed chair that kills anyone who sits in it. England plans to get America with it once and for all; however, Russia shows up early and takes a seat. The chair explodes beneath Russia because Russia is just that much more evil than the chair.

Of course, America is a hero who loves hamburgers.

*Sadly, due to immense BAWWWW'ing on Korea's part, Korea does not appear in the animated adaption that airs on children's television (but is still just as amazing even with 100% less Korea).

Well, I can give you a few that I liked and a few that I didn't.

Top Five Favorite Anime:

1. Full Metal Alchemist. I'm a huge fan of this Anime, from its plot twists to its over-the-top alchemical powers, to the movie that ends it. Does it have a happy ending? Sort of. Will it leave you changed after watching the entire series? Perhaps. The good news is they now have an Animanga for this...

2. FLCL. Just watch it. Seriously, it is the most surreal, awesome thing you will ever see.

3. Tenchi Muyo (The Original). As odd as it sounds, this was the Anime I grew up with. I watched Tenchi Muyo through Tenchi in Tokyo (or Universe, I can't remember which came last), and I have to say that the original Tenchi Muyo was always my favorite. In particular, Ryoko is my absolute favorite character in the series. She's crazy, she's witty, she's over the top, and she's a Space Pirate Demon. Can't beat that.

4. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z (up to Frieza Saga). The other Anime I grew up with, Dragon Ball Z was a pretty epic show... Up until the Frieza Saga. I watched it until Cell Saga ended, and then completely ignored it once the Majin Buu Saga began. I have to say that Cell Saga had some of the best filler movies in existence (Brolly: The Legendary Super Saiyan and Bojack Unbound), and it actually achieved one of the goals of Dragon Ball Z by making Gohan the main character (let's face it, that 'untapped power' thing had to go somewhere)... However, after that Gohan became a total wuss and all the main characters got the crap beaten out of them by a pink blob.

5. Pokemon (Original Japanese, Uncut). I feel this is sort of cheating, but it's true. The original first season of Pokemon was rather amazing to watch. Once again, I strongly feel that the Japanese version of the first movie moved me to this decision as it is unparalleled by any other Pokemon Movie created. The English Mewtwo looks like a pansy on an ego trip compared to the Japanese Mewtwo. Don't even get me started on the difference in the voice actors, which I must say is the worst dubbing ever. I absolutely despise the voice actors for the English version of Pokemon, with the exception being James'. Those of you whom know why get a cookie.

Edit: Blood Pleux (Blood +) and its movie, Blood: The Last Vampire (NOT the live action one. That was horrible), snatch an honorary sixth spot. Chiropterans are awesome.

Other anime I like include Outlaw Star, Trigun, Gundam Wing, DeathNote (Though I prefer the live-action movies, to be honest. It condenses the story in an excellent fashion and is a rare godsend), Yu-Gi-Oh! (Season Zero and 5D's included), Ghost In The Shell SAC and Second Gig, and an Anime I saw but can't remember the title of that has as much randomness as FLCL, but is much longer. The last anime on that list was on Adult Swim for a short period of time, but I cannot recall the title. It involved an animator and a kid with a bat that killed people, that's about all I can remember.

Now, my worst five. These go in reverse order. If you are afraid that your favorite Anime is going to get bashed, then please don't read on.

5. Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. I can't believe I'm betraying myself on this one, but oh well. GX was horrid, not only in the English Dub, but in the Japanese one as well. There was no plot until about halfway into the second season, and even that seemed to be completely ignored later on in the series, as if it didn't happen. At least, until Yubel shows up. Yubel's initial saga was probably the only thing good we got out of GX. In the US version, it ends with Yubel's saga, and has yet to be continued. Why? That hasn't been explained. However, in Japan, it ends with Jaden GOING BACK IN TIME to duel Yami and Yugi. Why? Not explained. Go figure.

4. Naruto. Yes, I know this is going to get me in trouble with some people, but I don't care. Naruto is horrible, and Shippuden doesn't look like it's going to make things better. I want to love Naruto for cool characters like Itachi, Orochimaru, and Gaara, but I can't. Because every time I watch it, I'm reminded of how much of a blatant DBZ rip off it is and how annoying the three main characters are. Granted, I can understand Sasuke, and Sakura gets better over time, but Naruto... Jesus. To make things worse (SPOILER ALERT), the big baddie that's been wreaking havoc in Shippuden known as Pain brings everyone he kills (sans the Toad Sage, I think) back to life. What. The. Crap. Utterly ridiculous.

3. Shin Chan. I realize it's supposed to be comedic, but it's just asinine to me...

2. Dragon Ball GT. Way to go, Toei. Make Trunks a total wuss, Goten a pansy, Vegeta look questionable in sexuality (Final Shine Attack, anyone?), and Goku a kid again. Oh, and Baby. Can't forget the villain named Baby. In fact, they won't let you forget him; they bring his name into the conversation at EVERY given opportunity. I'd rant on about this series even more, but I'd probably start setting off the curse filters.

And, the number one WORST Anime of all time in the opinion of ArmoredMewtwo?

1. G Gundam. I like all of the other Gundam Series but this one, and yet it lingered on the air for what seemed like an eternity. There's no clear explanation why, either, as it completely destroyed what made Gundam Wing so cool. At least, that's my take on it. Say what you want about the series yourselves, I found it a God-awful show and I'm so glad that it's been off the air for years.

Well, that's my take on things. :3

It's funny, I've never cared as much for Gundam Wing; I'm a big fan of the UC timeline though, so maybe that's why. G Gundam imo isn't meant to be taken for any deep message or anything; it's aimed to be fun and zany, which I thought it accomplished nicely.

As for YGO GX, I didn't mind it at all either. The first season of the English dub I thought was ok, but I couldn't stand to watch the rest (heck, I can't even bear to listen to 5Ds English dub with their bad voices). So I ended up watching Season 2 and beyond for GX in Japanese, which I thought was decent.

Watch the Japanese 5D's. Soooo much better.

The original Yu-Gi-Oh! (well, the 'second' series, technically) and 5D's were much better in terms of art and animation than the majority of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. I can bare to watch 5D's' dub only because some of the voice actors are tolerable (rare for a 4Kids dub) and the animation is still just as smooth. Granted, all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! dubs have the critical flaw of annoying censorship. I'm dreading the parts when all of these people are supposed to die in 5D's, as they'll probably be 'simply hospitalized' or 'disappear' instead. Death is a fact of life, 4Kids, get it through your thick skulls! >_<

Yeah I know, been watching all of 5Ds so far in Japanese. No screwed up story, no lame british voices, etc. Plus, it's ages ahead of the engish dub of course, which is a plus

Heheh, yeah. Plus, it has one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh! villains since Yami no Malik. :3

Heheh. :p

I feel so mainstream sometimes, though. I mean, sure, I've seen things others haven't even heard of (Shikibane Hime and To-Love-Ru, to name a few), but I see a lot of my anime or hear about it from WB (CW) and Cartoon Network. ._.

You almost made me realize how Anime these days sucks at least in the U.S that is. No offense but it's in a miserable state right now, times are still tough, and Japan obviously has trouble finding another hit series like One Piece or Bleach. I didn't want to go off-topic but it's true. My current favorite Anime so far:

One Piece - Yeah I know everyone says Manga is better than Anime but with One Piece even though I've pretty much caught up with the Anime it's still pretty good, fillers could be better, it has a good storyline and background.

Hajime No Ippo - After I finished watching New Challenger I was craving for more new episodes based on the Manga series but I'm forced to read the Manga to see what happens which makes me a sad panda.

Dragonball Z - One of the best Anime series I've ever seen and grew up with as well. It had it's flaws but it was pretty good IMO. It's also one of the most addicting Anime series I've ever watched.

There's others that are a favorite of mine but it's hard finding good Anime these days...

PokeTrainerJ ~ That is exactly on of the reasons I made this thread. There hasn't been a major hit of anything long since Bleach... Sure, there have been extremely good shorter series, FMA, Death Note, Code Geass, TTGL, and many others, but I miss having a show I can look forward to every week. However, I've been watching Dragon Ball Kai, since I missed out on the DBZ craze, and Kai is DBZ but better in every way.
