This is the “Soft Balls” deck that has been referenced in some of the North Texas and Oklahoma reports. The deck itself is a really great deck and it sets up fast. My overall Cities Win/ Loss were : 4-2 Top 4 Cut, 6-1 Garland Cities Win, 2-2 Ada Bad Day, 3-2 Sherman. So 17 wins (2 top Cuts) and 7 losses. So about 70% overall… not bad me thinks!
The idea Start of the Deck is a Sableye with a Fire Energy, Chansey if first, great/ Chansey if second, and some of the trainer engine to thin the deck a bit! If you can get a Birch in hand, that is a bonus do to thinning out your hand quickly!
Against Gardy, this deck gives it a heckuva matchup. Whereas many may think it is an autoloss, it really does hang in there well with it do to not being able to Telepass much and your opponent can only Birch/ TVR so many times before their hand is either to large or they can not afford to discard anything. So the Supporter is key as to when and how to play them. This isn’t a deck for newer players as getting the timing down are critical on every play.
Some of the losses were based on poor prizes. With so few Pokemon in here, having 2 prized can dramatically change the flow, especially if they are Chanseys. In 2 losses particularly, 3 Chansey were prized which changed the flow of the game and created a poor situation for a positive outcome. But I always play with the motto, Finish the game and make them earn it. It teaches you how to utilize the engine better and gives you the chance to improve timing and strategy skills.
Some people go into great detail as why and how on each card, but this is really a timing style deck that takes practice and Patience. Using Excavate from Sableye can setup which trainer to use and when. If you Excavate and see a Pokemon, you might Pokedex and see the second card knowing you have a Dusk Ball in your hand… or you can Pokenav, see the next 2 cards then Master Ball if one of the 3 were energy. There are several ways to go about this, and thus why I say it is a timing style deck for Advanced style players that have a firm grasp of combination cards.
Several of my friends encouraged me not to post this list, but I felt as if it would be nice to show that even the smallest of trainer card can work. Some might say Quick Ball works well in here, but too many time I ran into a situation where Sableye was being left in the deck to help with not decking. A GREAT PLAYER here in Fort Worth dubbed this the “Fishing Engine” for 2 reasons. One, you are fishing for cards with no guarantee of the outcome, but secondly cuz my last name is Fish!
I hope you enjoy reading this and feel free to make suggestions or try it out and let us know what worked for you!! Most of all.. Have FUN!! SOTG!!
