BR Donk Report Thread

I had 5 games at my BR. 4 were donks.

In every game the person who started first won.

It sucks to be in a format where the only thing that matters is who starts first.

Wow, this format is a great excuse to spend more time studying for finals instead of attending events. Guess OP is trying to help me out. lol.

I was absolutely disgusted by yesterdays tournament. I got 2 donks and I wasn't even running Sableye, I didn't bother changing my Luxchomp at all, and the first turn supporter was just broken even without Sableye. The Top 4 all had 4 Sableye and were focused on donks with a fallback strategy, 2 Gyaradonks and 2 Loxchomps.

Anyone who likes this kind of quick games doesn't have any skill and is the only way that can win. Having tested HGSS-on alot myself, I'm reminded of the days where once I relied on my own set up and my own cards to win games that lasted more than 2 turns. The longer the game goes on the likelier it is for the better player to win the game, that's what I want.

I played Sableye Donk today and went 4-0 in the swiss, donked every game, then lost in Top 2 to VILEGAR who got a tomb start G1, missed it G@, which he lost, then started double tomb g3.

This format is absolutely terrible. HGSS on plz.

5 rounds today, playing sabledonk, won rounds 1 and 4 on t1, lost round 5 on t1, just missed out on the donk rounds 2 and 5 and lost both of those games by purposefully decking myself out.

I was running a Reshiram/Emboar HGSS-on deck for Battle Roads in Fort Collins, CO which did surprisingly well. The deck overall did 2-2 in a 4 round tournament. One player was using sabledonk and he appearently donked 1 time prior to my match (which was our last), I was unfortunate to sport only 1 Reshiram in my opening hand, however due to bad luck on his part, I almost survived. However he did scrap out the cards he needed to flash bite 6 times and make the final blow with Sableye. So with that said, it's clearly obvious with the introduction of high HP pokemon from Black and White, Sabledonk isn't too much of a threat, but it still doesn't make any player feel any better. (I just laughed and broke out the popcorn to enjoy the show.) So I still support the early HGSS-on rotation just to make sure every player has a fair shot to win a game. My only other lost was to a Gyarados deck (type advantage).

In addition to the Sabledonk problem, I feel trainers from the sets to be rotated out are extremely aggressive and powerful when combined with Pokemon like Reshiram and Zekram. After all when you combine snow point temple, expert belt, and reshiram. That is when you begin to realize 170 HP is a little over the top.

Played sabldonk. Beat 2 other sabldonks in coinflip. Lost to a sabldonk on coinflip. Lost to a reshiram because he started tomb and double reshiram and a tepig. Then donked a lone luxray.

This format is stupid, I honestly haven't seen 1 person win when they went second. There is just such a huge advantage to going first it doesn't even make sense

I won a match from going second, wierd but I did. The format is rather broken right now with going first because of the powerful trainers at our disposal, however it is clearly obvious that HGSS-on is very slowed down in draw speed, bringing it back to the way it used to be played in the old Pokemon-e TCG days (Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge). At least that is my observation.

With HGSS-on I think the advantage will be who can provide their set-up engine first and that may not happen on the first player's first turn. Yeah, it really reminds me of 2002-2004 a lot.

MI battle roads

Play tested a dialgachomp, luxchomp and a sabledonk+luxchomp combo
i decided the only way i could stop a sabledonk was to play donk my self.

we had 20 masters, five rounds with a top 4 cut

round 1 i played sabledonk... (0-1)
i had my only luxray gl as active, he played sableye and than layed crobat turn crobat played a
special darkness and killed me, it was a wonderful start to a battle roads.
Played two more friendly games and donked him both times

round 2 another sabledonk (1-1)
we both have sableeye active he has a benched sableye i have nothing.... i get lucky and roll first
collector 2 crobat g and a uxie.... start cutting down his benched sableye since i have no energy
and impersonate a conspiracy. he goes through half his deck in turn one and cant donk me, i set up
a luxray gl and a garchomp c. by turn 4 my risk of using luxray and garchomp payed off... i killed off his bench and took 3 prize card lead and he withdrew

round 3 i played a reshiram (2-1)
he has a bad start, volpex and some basic active.... i have a killer start, seeker, turn 2 crobat
2 dark energy, sableye.... i laugh because i know this could have been a hard match but its another
donk

round 4 vs kingdra prime teched out
he starts spiritomb and benched two horses.... i start sableye, 2 seeker, 2 crobat g, belt,
special dark..... i top deck turn.... lay belt, dark, crobat flashbite active seeker flashbite three more
times on horse and donk active..... he dosent draw another pokemon so i seeker overconfident
and its over.

round 5 vs lost gar
i start with no energy and he sets up with mew prime.... i ko his prime, next turn he hurls my luxray x
i lay crobat, turn crobat and overconfident.... thats when it goes down hill, he has a gengar prime
ready and i have nothing that can hit hard enough..... i finally ko his first geengar prime but its two
late he lays lost world mew prime seeker for the 6th lost pokemon and i just ko some benched
pokemon and loss with only 2 prizes left

top four go
5-0 luxchomp+sableye
4-1 gdos
4-1 vilegar
3-2 lost gar

for a first time return to the game since the base sets i dident do bad.... the game 1 donk killed me
or i would have been top cut..... out of the 20 people their were 3 sabledonks and another 5-8 people
with teched in sableye or spiritomb(dark)

I didn't go one round without hearing my friends saying I donked, I got donked, etc. There was soo many cheap wins at the tournament. I got donked once. Donked twice. My friend donked twice. Sabledonk might not be consistent enough to be BDIF, but it's ability to donk is ridiculous enough to threaten any decks. No matter what I am running, I will never want to play against it. lt won seniors saturday and sunday from a player I've never noticed before. And these seniors were running Loxchomp and Gyarados, etc so they weren't just playing random theme decks. It's an awful format.

This format is terrible after 3 rounds we had 8 out of 18 masters quit because of donks. It wasn't fun and I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get donked. = /

Just a brief review of the BR in Tecumseh, MI for me:

I ran Kingdra Prime/Mandibuzz/Zoroark with 4 Spiritombs.

Basically, my HGSS-on prototype with 4 Spiritombs and Bebe's in place of Pkmn Communication.

game 1: won 5 prizes to 4 against DialgaChomp
game 2: lost turn 2 to gyarados/donk
game 3: won turn 2 against gengar, not a donk, just bad start for him.
game 4: lost turn 1 to sabledonk w/LuxChomp. won an epic "for fun" rematch though!
game 5: won against reshiboar. Killed a solosis, sniped Tepig, and Zoroark Foul Play'd both Reshiram ftw. Both Zoruas were prized (!)

I saw at least 5 other Masters (of the 18 present) running Sabledonk. Likely more than that. They seemed to split their games, but everyone was frustrated at having either to run with Sabledonk or run against it with Spiritomb or beefy Reshiboar.

My tournament went like this today.

R1 - He went 1st got out 4+ Pokemon, I scoop before my turn.
R2 - He goes first, however I end up donking him on my 1st turn.
R3 - I go first, I donk him.
R4 - I go first, I donk him.

I got 3rd in a T2 cut. However 3/4 were donks by me.

Drew

There were 2 seniors with donk.
I lost to one of them, despite playing 4 tomb 4 sableye.
;P
Hopefully I didn't lose too many points..
I'm not going to any other BR's now..
The sabledonk kid won...
He also won with it at another..

I heard that the one in Dayton was won by a Sabledonk list, but can't first hand confirm that.

Chris, I can confirm that. I was the Sabledonk player who won in Dayton. I posted a tournament report if anyone wants to see how it went.

But yes, the games I won were on turn 1, games I lost went past turn 1.

Then I ran the Columbus BR yesterday, and seen a lot of donks. 3 Sabledonk decks, numerous Gyarados, and Vilegar decks, plus a few SP decks. Top 4 saw Sabledonk vs SP with Sableyes, and Sabledonk vs Machamp/Serperior. The Sabledonks did not make it to the finals. The SP/Sableye deck ended up winning the whole thing.
